OSX Mountain Lion

Thoughts thus far?

I'm really enjoying the Notification Center like on my iPhone and iPad. I can't wait for iCloud tabs for Safari in iOS 6 but that's still a few months off. I'm hoping for better mobile iCloud file management though, that's my only complaint thus far.

Anyone finding any of the less hyped features useful that others maybe should check out?

Please don't turn this into an Apple vs PC argument.

Installed it and didn't see much difference. I had to find a blog post with all the updates to see what they actually included.

The notifications are kinda cool. Growl was starting to piss me off to no end.

Growl

Growl was obnoxious as fuck to me. That and the fact that once installed it was a bloody nightmare to get rid of it. I know it's not malicious but it really shouldn't have been as difficult as it was. I think with iOS6 and the continuing evolution and functionality of iCloud the enhancements will begin to really shine. Not quite yet ready to give up my dropbox though.

Haven't downloaded it myself yet but my boy really likes the dictation as well as the notification center.

I have a Macbook Air and a MacBook Pro Retina. Did you notice any permissions issues after upgrading? When I went from Snow Leopard to Lion I had some slowdown issues. It ended up being permissions that somehow got changed, and I ran disk utilities to fix them. All in all not a huge deal, just curious.

Thanks

I'm live blogging at a conference this weekend so can't update. The new Mail looks to be what I am most excited about. The VIP tagging looks awesome.

I got the OCZ Vertex 4 SSD in my macbook and it seems to crash the install / upgrade process... :-(

Really annoyed they are forcing me to go with their own flash drives.. anyone been successful with the upgrade having your own SSD drive in it ?

Didn't have any problems with permissions or slow downs. My speakers wouldn't work initially but a restart resolved that issue for me. I'm running a mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro by the way. With any luck I'll be getting one of the Retina ones within the next two weeks, supplies are tight here in Montreal, they're gone as soon as they come in.

Only issue I had with it was MailPlane didn't work. I upgraded to MailPlane 3 and all is well. Enjoying some of the features like "Dictation" and "Messages" but haven't dug too deep into the other new things.....

Dictation could be quite useful. Can't wait to try it but probably won't upgrade until I complete a backup.

I'm glad the dictation came out. Works very similar to Dragon Speak which isnt available on my Mac but I have it on my PC.

At least now I have a use for this expensive blue snowball microphone.

I didn't get it yet but will probably install it tomorrow. How long did it take to install?

I wish Siri was included in this os. That would be so amazing...

Can't beat a $20 OS Upgrade, the new features are awesome. Clearly OS X is the most advanced desktop OS there is.

The things I'm loving are dictation, it really does learn your voice. Twitter integration is awesome. I'm finding it's a bit quicker than Lion and switching between desktop is even quicker also.

It's running great on a range of machines from a 13" Macbook Pro to a 27" iMac.

I'm stuck with Snow Leopard until I get some more ram, Lion was too slow. I'll probably jump right to Mountain Lion when I upgrade or maybe just get a new Mac Book Pro.

Testing dictation now

I just posted this post using the dictation. It's weird talking to your computer. I'm sure that will change in the next few years.

Agreed. It kicks ass and is so much nicer than Windoze. And, the upgrade is a download of all things. No running out to buy DVD's. I will be upgrading on Sunday.

Its weird seeing the usually Apple fan boys and girls at Gizmodo saying this isn't really an update and they are more excited about the next Windows, which will be better.

They're either trolling or something is in the water.

Mountain Lion is a giant leap forward in the evolution of OS X.
