15 minutes can cause you a bunch of aggravation. F N Geico
Sunday morning I had an accident, no serious injuries no other cars directly involved.
I?m a little banged up but nothing I haven?t been through before. My dog was with me and he?s fine also. My problem is my insurance company,? Geico? or perhaps the adjuster. I?ve been with Geico over 20 years and never had an accident. It?s very obvious that the adjuster wants me to have the car repaired at a Geico certified shop (what ever that is) and I want to have it done by a shop of my choice which is my right. Once I made that point clear to him his attitude changed and he told me ok then tell me where you want it done and I?ll make arrangements to have it towed there today. I said I don?t know yet I have to ask around or perhaps go the dealer I bought it from and see if they can do it. He said well we?re not going to pay storage fees for a vehicle to just sit at a shop; some of those fees are very high so please go to the dealer today and also stop at the place where the car is and sign a release giving us permission to pick up the vehicle. Off I go to the dealer who said they can do the work and then to the shop that has the car to sign the release. First thing they said was, I see Geico is trying to get you to have the work done at one of their places, don?t let them run you around, take your time and be sure you?re comfortable with the shop that?s going to do the work. Basically he was a pretty decent guy and also took the time to go over my Vehicle (2011 Nissan Pathfinder) Not every little problem it had from the accident but the serious and expensive work. One thing he pointed out is that the frame was seriously bent. When I got back to the house I called Geico to tell them about the frame. I told them this entire excursion your adjuster is sending me on may be totally moot because the frame on the vehicle is seriously bent. A few minutes later the adjuster called and the following conversation took place. (Not verbatim) I just want you to know a bent frame doesn?t mean a vehicle is totaled. Well the vehicle has some very serious front end damage and now with a bent frame I?m not sure if I would feel comfortable driving it again. Doesn?t matter, we will fix it right. How can you fix a bent frame? Replace it if need be. What about me, the customer, do I have a say in this? Nope. I have no say? You can check the vehicle out after the work is complete and if you have a valid complaint we will fix it. You are going to use all OEM parts? More than likely we will use after market but some of them are actually better than the OEM. I think its best if we end this conversation, please go check the vehicle tomorrow and get back to me with your evaluation. Well I can?t get there tomorrow, I?ll try for Thursday but I can?t promise. That?s when I lost it. What the fuck do you mean you can?t get there tomorrow, you ran me around all day and now you tell me you can?t get there, who the fuck do you think you are? There?s no reason to get like that and I?m not going to listen to it, I?m doing the best I can for you, I?m filling in for another adjuster and I?m running all over the county. Fuck You. Click. Would anyone have first hand information as to my rights here, do I have to accept the vehicle under those conditions? I?m sure by the way he?s speaking somewhere in the fine print of my policies It?s going to substantiate what he?s saying but there are also governing laws pertaining a persons rights with insurance companies that trump their policy conditions. I just don?t recall the name of the agency. Thanks. |

& This is EXACTLY WHY I NEVER purchase ANY Car Insurance...
By not doing so, it allows me to be free of these types of hassels when I have accidents. Considering I am usually drunk most of the time, I frequently get into accidents. A huge chunk of my life would be wasted if I had to mess about with insurance companies... ![]() |

Get a new company man, that's bullshit.
When my girlfriend got into a minor accident (some guy backed into her, he was found at fault), my insurance company went out of their way to make sure it was done correctly and that the damages were assessed accurately. I had my choice of where and when I could have it repaired. They even paid for the rental and picked me up from my house to get the car after it was fixed. |

If the insurance company prefers working with a certain place, why kick up a fuss.
Probably get processed and sorted quicker. And as he pointed out, any problems can be sorted out. Rather than if it was Ferrari, I can undersand not letting anyone but a major garage touch it. |

When you get your Nissan fixed - do us all a favour and turn that damn annoying Geico lizard into roadkill.

You failed to do what you should always do when dealing with an accident. HIRE AN ATTORNEY.
Let them deal with the headaches. |

I have Esurance.
My car has been in several accidents (without me in it). (figure it out) Each time I just send it where they say to send it and it is done within days. I get a rental car while its there. Only once they fucked up and it took 2 weeks to get back. They extended the rental free of charge. Work on my car each time was awesome. No complaints what so ever. Not sure why I am supposed to buck a system that works just fine. Conspiracy theorists always have a problem I guess? |

1. It's every adjusters job to try and get to you to go to one of their recommended shops. They usually have a deal with those places and it saves them money. Every insurance company will do this, I guess it just depends how hard each one pushes that is different.
2. A car being totaled depends on how much it costs to fix. Not whether or not you feel it's safe. No matter what happens to it, it will be fixed appropriately and be completely safe to drive. So you need to get off that horse right away. What it means for the car to be totaled is that it will cost more to fix then to replace - that's it, it's very simple.
