question about multiple sites on 1 ip

Is that a problem? benefits? disadvantages? google?

or should every site have a unique ip adress?

Better to know now then to built something that`s not so smart:-)

Anyone who has something meaningful to say, please drop a line!

Thanks!

It doesnt really seem to matter as much as it used to. If you arent interlinking your own sites, you'll probably be ok with many sites on the same IP with no issues.

It's not a problem, but don't interlink those sites.

It does make a difference depending on how big your site is and how many sites you are developing or managing

There are SEO companies that will not accept you as a client if your site does not have a unique IP; take it for what it is worth.

There are theories that suggest the G algo favors sites on dedicated IPs. Take it as you will. I use dedicated personally.

Ok... well... It will all be paysites... Within 2 years there will be 5 of them...
All sites will have their own unique content and although i was not planning to
excessively interlink... i would like to have them linked... not for the links itself but members must see what other sites there are so i was thinking about an "our sites"-page with links to the other sites.

@spankitmedia : why will it make a difference for big sites? And what`s big: many members; a lot of datatraffic; a lot of movies?

Thanks for all info!

I prefer putting bigger sites on their own dedicated IP.

Bigger sites are more heavily indexed : Big is more pages, more PR, more links

I have a virtual host server or whatever... does that mean i don`t have a dedicated ip?
To my knowledge my site(s) is/are the only one on(es) "my" ip adress... or doesn`t that work that way with virtual hosting?

Thanks.

Check with your host of course but you should be able to definitely get a dedicated ip http://whatismyipaddress.com/

well if It's paysites and only 5 you might as well put them on their own ip.

Thanks! Yeah... about time to contact my host... Have to wait a few hours before they open:-)

I checked my ip on that whatsmyipadress.com... I only see my name on it and it says: static ip and that should mean: only one customer on one ip adress. So that`s dedicated?

You can have dedicated IPs on a shared server. Just put your IP into browser and see if site comes up.

When i put my ip in my browser there`s a blank page with only my ip adress on it... not the website... any idea what that means? Thanks!

Ps. I think I remember that in the past I could see my site when i entered the ip in my browser... maybe it isn`t anymore because i now have more then one site on it?

This only means the ip never changes. Its important to have static so the internet knows where to find your site.

I have 7 sites/domain on 1 server, 1 ip address. No issues. But it is my own server and static IP, The sites are very small and barelly any traffic. They are start up sites that I'm still working on. Just keep in mind each site will generate its own traffic and bandwidth demands, your server and ip will only handle so many.

If you google your domain it should give you the ip address, you could google that ip then see what sites are attached to that ip. So yes, don't share your adult site with your personal site or anything that you dont want coming back to you.

your fine to start 5 sites on the same IP and interlink them.

note that most of the people telling you otherwise are trying to sell something.

We are alking about your server ip, not the ip address you use for internet connection, lol..

That tool he posted will only tell your home ip.

Check you server ip here:

uhhhhhhhh... yes i know... and no... when i check my server ip on that site the hostname and isp show up. The site you are giving me is for finding out what the ip of a website is after submitting a url... well... what my sites ip adress is is not my question here

Thank you anyway for your time!

Well he posted the tool, so I thought you need to get to know your server ip first. When you click the link, the first page that shows up displays your home IP address. You can also do IP lookup for another ip address but then, why do you need that? That wont reveal if there are others sites hosted on it.

You need to do reverse ip lookup to see if there are any other sites using the same IP. Go here and see:
http://www.domaintools.com/research/reverse-ip/

Its based on search engine results so that might not be 100% correct but try.

Ok... it shows 3 domains and there are 3 more but they don`t show them (before i pay 49 bucks?). Interesting... that should be 100% correct... I have 5 sites on it and one domain is only pointing to the server so that`s 6... No other sites from strangers on it...

thanks...

Yes you can have as many site on 1 ip 1 server. You are only limited to how much traffic your internet and server can handle.

I had to upgrade my hostaccount before when my traffic increased
Actually i don`t know if there`s a limit... the only thing i know is when i use more bandwith then my hostaccount is buying i pay a lot more per GB...
