Religion, not "smut" causes porn addiction

I think a lot of us knew this all along... but here is some definitive proof.

Researchers: Religious Fervor, Not Smut, Causes ?Porn Addiction?

CLEVELAND ? Religious fervor may play a bigger role than physical or psychological symptoms in convincing a person he or she is addicted to pornography, according to a new study by psychologists at Case Western Reserve University.

Published Wednesday in the scholarly journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, ?Transgression as Addiction: Religiosity and Moral Disapproval as Predictors of Perceived Addiction to Pornography? indicates people who consider themselves very religious are inclined to believe themselves ?addicted? if they view internet porn even once.

The information may help therapists understand that the perception of addiction is more about religious beliefs than actual viewing habits, researchers concluded.

The thread title is bullshit.

If you're jerking off to porn 12 times a day and your bills are late because of your porn spending....That has nothing to do with the "perception" of any religion.

It's fair to say that religion does tend to make people think they are addicted when they in fact are not but it has nothing to do with those who are legitimately addicted.

I would have said the same thing about porn and marijuana but over the last few years, I've met a number of people who can't function properly without one or the other.

gets into 'addiction' vs 'dependency', i believe

however, you can, i suppose, hit the definition of addiction for both, but i mean really

alcohol, smokes and drugs are addictive. Porn is not addictive. There is no such thing as porn addiction. Go to a methadone clinic, THAT is addiction. Anything else is just a mild obsession and a lack of self control.
