So does Minte have to pay more taxes now?

I wonder how Minte is feeling this morning - You know, after he expanded his business while Obama is in office.

America has spoken..

Clearly I don't like or respect what they said. But it is what it is.

I do feel for the generations coming up though. Work hard, graduate from college with enormous debt only to not find a job. Or if they do, probably not one that is going to pay well.

If the country is morphing to a nannie state then all I can say is I was lucky to be alive in the 60's and have an opportunity to build and grow a business. The changes today in society are not ones I would ever choose for anyone.

In a couple of hundred years, assuming there still is a human race I imagine that they will look at the US dynasty that existed for about 60 years and look to this period of time as about when it ended.
Nothing lasts forever!

My only comment on paying more tax is..you were right all the time. I will certainly pay more, but at the end of the day it won't make a bit of difference to my lifestyle.

I am former military; I believe in supporting the president no matter what. When our president sends troops into harm's way we need to speak with one voice and back him 100%. We all saw what happened on 9/11 and it stunned me that we never had full support for what we did in Afghanistan, and we also never had full support in Iraq. Look what happened with out it.

Will everyone pull in the same direction? Hardly. It's just going to be business as usual with one side trying to beat the other.

This is exactly what happened to me when I graduated from college. I dropped out of high school, went into the Marines, and I graduated college at the same time of the dot cum bubble burst. Just because you go to college doesn't mean the economy will have a job waiting for you.

(In fact, this is exactly how I got into porn!)

How is it morphing into a nannie state? Did something change? Has anyone ever made any large change to welfare? We have more people on welfare now than before - duh. Look at what President Bush left us with. This is not something that is going to be fixed in four years.

I knew this all along. You can pay more and taxes and it's not going to change your lifestyle at all. That's great. But now the guy who sweeps the floors at your plant might pay a little less, and might not worry about being able to afford his grocery bill this weekend.

Cheers.

I never realized you were that old. You were building businesses in the 60's? Anyways, while your second paragraph may have some truth, if anything the reason why is that the rest of the world is catching up and big business loves cheap labor. people won't work for pennies here but they will elsewhere. Greed is killing the american lifestyle more than anything. if all products sold in the US were made in the US, they would cost more but there would definitely be more jobs.

I'm ex military too (and a NYer), but I fail to see how Iraq fits into 9/11. I would have rather that war been blatantly about daddy revenge lol.

from a german point of view - which was very much criticized back then - there was support for the war in Afghanistan - even though we had already seen how the Russians failed against the Taliban (at that time supported with weapons from the US)

but the war against Iraq was not justified and built on lies - and thats when international support began to fall apart

thats what the german minister of foreign affairs said back then - right in the face of Rumsfeld

and these wars (started by Bush - or whoever used him as puppet) were what drove the US budget in the shitter - not a few % taxes more or less

Doesn't that mean you pay more taxes now too? When Obamacare's mandates kick in you'll have to pay for healthcare for all of your employees or pay taxes on them, right?

Or do you already cover healthcare for all of your employees?

To clarify - for those of us who have an idea of what you do - did you start your business from scratch, did you inherit a company and grow it, did you buy into a business?

Iraq has nothing to do with 9/11.

The reasons we went back into Iraq isn't something I want to argue here, but instead my point is when the President of the United States says "We are going to war" it cannot be "Half in and half out". We need to go in fully and we need to back the decision.

During WWII we went "All in" - which is why we were able to recover from the Great Depression. During Vietnam the majority of the public failed to back the war - understandable - but because of the lack of faith our military faltered, which in turned caused our government to falter as well.

Don't write off the whole country's entire future Minte. It's only 4 short years, then Jeb Bush will get elected and fix all this higher tax nonsense and you'll be back in the black. :D

Maybe, maybe not. My taxes go up and down from year to to year based on a large number of factors. My taxes will go up or down no matter who is in office. I don't base my growth on who is in office or how much taxes I might have to pay next year. I base my growth on my business.

The loop holes for taxes are staggering. I have a truck for one business; We haul around so much gear that I have to make two trips. Not only do I get to write of a portion of the expenses off, but also the mileage too? What a joke. I bet you Minte writes off a ton of shit too.

Currently I pay heathcare for twenty-six people. Healthcare is going to go up no matter what. If Obamacare never passed, healthcare would still go up. Just like it has every year.

We should be checking in with Ed Hammer. Seems like he is on the brink of failure and an Obama win would push him over the edge.

How is that a loophole or a joke? Your business incurs expenses, so you write them off...
nothing wrong with that... it's unlikely you are writing off much more than you actually spent, and if you are, you are probably doing something wrong and at least border-line illegal...

what type of business(es) do you run by the way?

Not to play Monday morning CEO or anything, but if you lease a larger truck and only make one trip you can write off the lease and pay your employees half as much because they'll be working twice as fast and you could use the time you save to book another job...

It's a complete joke. I work from home myself, and yet because my home office is in fact an office and does not have a bed in it I can write off a portion of my house?

How is that a joke? If you are in business and you have an office it's clearly not income and shouldn't be taxed as such.

If you didn't have an office in your home, it would be someplace else and you'd get a deduction for that.

what does being a soldier have to do with being behind the president 100%? There were plenty of soldiers who were in vietnam that didn't agree with their president, there are plenty of soldiers today that voted against obama because of broken promises.

following orders and agreeing with your presidents decisions isn't even the same thing...

why not? You use a room in your house for business, you heat it, pay electricity, taxes, etc for it... why shouldn't you write it off?

but I must admit you are kinda right, in our case (online businesses) writing off portion of your house expenses ($1000s per year) because you setup a desk and a computer in some room, and use it to run a blog network is probably a bit of a stretch...

My office is in the biggest room of my house, and when I moved in I made a few mods to increase the footprint a little, that home office deduction is a very big deal to me.

And don't belittle blogs, woj, they pay my mortgage.

The home office deduction is nice indeed, but I think Rochard might be partially right in that the validity of it is questionable..

I didn't mean to sound like there is anything wrong with blogs, they can be a good income source, but it's not 100% obvious that running a relatively small online business (like a blog network) requires an "office"...

The home office deduction is an audit flag and when you go to sell the house you have to recapture some of what you deducted.

My accountant said it could be a flag, but if you are legitimately using it and require it, then take advantage of the write off, especially since you know you will get screwed somewhere else!

That's my point. I get to write off a portion of my house WHY? Because I need an office?

I get to write off mileage on my truck? How does the IRS know how much of my mileage is for personal use or business use? I bought two computers in the past two months, but how does the IRS know they weren't just Christmas presents for someone?

I try to be pretty fair and honest about everything, but when my accountant tells me I can write legally write off a portion of my mileage every year I would be a fool not to.

My blogs also pay my mortgage, but I also work full time from home so in my case this is in fact my office.

Following orders and agreeing with your president are in fact two different things. However, when the President says "GO" you go - You don't say "I don't agree with us attacking this nation so can we talk about it". It's not open to discussion.

LOL.

This is exactly what every liberal was saying. If it doesn't change your lifestyle and helps the country why would you even fight it??

What makes you so sure it would indeed "help the country"?

i got audited and they disallowed many things. they lowered the amount of internet i could claim, cell phone, home office.. basically eliminated any car related expenses because after all, how much driving does anyone have to do with an online business. etc etc. 98% of people are probably claiming certain things that would be denied if they were actually audited

You most certainly have to pay more taxes now; if you are the baller you say you are, they will be retroactive too.

Maybe, I don't know. I have an accountant for these things. For all I know she's robbing me blind. My taxes change every year, as does the amount I make. Sometimes I pay more and sometimes I pay less. While clearly I'm not as big as a baller as Minte, I'm guessing it's not going to make a difference in my lifestyle.

Do you vote? Do you pay any attention to the propositions on the ballot, as in, do you read beyond the title or just go on whatever "voter's guide" reaches your mailbox first.

You and EVERYONE in the State of California will begin paying higher taxes due to Prop 30 passing.

So they pay a little more in taxes...

Like he said, it's not going to change his life style.

Won't change the federal govt.'s lifestyle either. Politicians in D.C. will still get free health care, big fancy offices with dozens of staff people, eat for free, have big limousines to drive them around, and keep right on spending 10.6 BILLION DOLLARS PER DAY...EVERY DAY.

So yeah! Let's all give them some more money! And tonight your Congressman, Senator, and President will all be eating the finest meals in the nicest residences and drinking the finest wine and champagne while poor people starve and scream for rich people to "pay a little more"
