best i've ever drink was the one stored in barrels made with smoked oak if i'm not wrong. it's name is Laphroaig.
wikipedia: "Laphroaig is one of the most strongly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies, and is most frequently aged to 10 years, although the 15- (now discontinued) and 18-year-old varieties are common (the 27-, 30- and 40-year-olds are rare and expensive). The company describes their whisky as the most distinctive of Scotch whisky. The whisky has a peaty/smokey flavour." like i said best for me, i've paid in UK 34 pounds for 0.7 bottle it was 10y old one and it was on the promotion in Tesco in dedicated whiskey store cost was 37 pounds so no big difference.

I can't really tell the difference between whiskies.
Doesn't matter if it comes in a plastic bottle and costs 4 euros from Spain or 40 pound from uk. Tastes the same. |

You will have to try many to find a favorite. Start with the highland malts, they will be the most approachable (Glenlivet, Macallan). Move to the Speysides with a spicier finish (Balvenie). And then onto the Islay's (Highland Park, Bowmore, Lagavulin ). which are more aggressive and smokey. My personal favorite has always been Lagavulin 16yr. But all Scotch is great in its own right.

I don't drink hard liquor much these days - but my preference would be Beam or Jack Daniels.

I started as a Jack drinker.... but lately I moved on to Jameson, at the Brig I tried Balvenie (some special edition) which I really liked so I bought $46 dollar bottle to bring to friends dinner and I dint like it as much as the one at the bar.

Do yourself a favor and don't get into scotch. It's about $200 per bottle for anything you'll want to drink. If I could go back in time, I'd slap the glencairn out of my fucking hand before I ended up loving it.
If you have an unrefined palate, you can go for Glenfiddich or Glen Morangie (about $60 per bottle) and you most likely won't know the difference between that and a good bottle. Make sure you drink single-malt scotch and not a blended scotch (otherwise, you might as well drink a cheap whiskey like Crown Royal). |

Personally I would rather have a few drinks of a quality beverage than more of a cheapo one. When I bought the Balveenie Trader Joe's had gallons of rum and vodka for $5.99 - who is that aimed at ?

They aren't the best tasting but mixed with coke I quite like them. You wouldn't eat straight butter but you'll put it on toast sorta deal

Thats like water for people who are still too manly to be caught drinking water but haven't tried anything good yet.
I used to think crown was good, too... but its rreally not. ALl the cheaper brands are undrinkable now. Buddy of mine drinks gibsons.. I cant - it's rough and watered |

Crown Royal is swill. Horrible shit. And any booze that you have to mix with cola to make it bearable is not worth drinking.
Any of the Islay whiskeys are a pretty good start except Octomore. Unless you have a VERY discerning, or completely dead, palette you do not want to start with the peatiest whiskey in the world. A really good place to start is the Bowmore Legend, it's the cheaper end of the Islay range, but for the price is a great dram. If that seems like something you like move on to Caol Ila and Ardbeg. If the peat is a bit much try the Bruichladdich, it is the only unpeated Islay distillery. If you prefer the Laddie and want to keep heading in that sort of direction take a look at the Campbelltown region whiskeys. Springbank makes some good ones that are not super expensive.

Better whiskeys have a smoother aftertaste, thats why i drink johnnie walker gold label when pure and black + coke when mixed.

I like Glenfiddich 15.
I can't tell the difference between Glenfiddich 18 and Glenfiddich 15 except for the price. So, I stick with Glenfiddich 15. |

I see some people talking about bourbon so if you want something truly amazing then try Wyoming Whisky if you can get your hands on it. If I am mixing with Mexican Coke then I just pour Makers Mark. If I am drinking straight then it is Wyoming Whisky.

In fact only alcohol I saw being sold in plastic were wine and beer, I do not believe I saw whiskey/liquor being sold in plastic where I live. That would be special edition for bums I was saying that ALL whiskeys have that liquid plastic (that is how I call it, you know that distinguishing whiskey taste) aroma, that is why I do not understand how people like whiskeys. |
