shared hosting with SPAM FILTERING on email server (pics)
i'm with amerinoc and i get 600 spams/day. while they did help me tweak the spamassassin settings, i'm still getting hammered. my last host bluegravity.com had spam filtering at the server level that i didn't have to configure.
it's a colossal pain in the ass to me on mobile getting 20 spams/hour. am i asking for too much? after all they did put the first rover on mars back in '97. any thoughts? ![]() |

I dont know how big you want to go with the anti spam but my university is using https://www.barracudanetworks.com/ to block all the spam. Dont worth it for only a website but if you have a huge network you might want to look at them.

We use Zimbra which has a decent AI anti spam system built in and also uses a couple of large DNSBLs which I can configure. We get tons of spam but only 2 or 3 per month manage to get through the filters and once they are flagged the same senders rarely get through again. (And those only get through thanks to having common / well known default addresses for hosting businesses which have to be advertised).
The only issue w/ using Barracuda is the amount of false positives, they block just about everything and have a very poor removal record. You could use a white list service where senders are required to verify themselves and you are required to approve them. I do something like this to manage my gmail account which attracts tons of spam as will any popular free webmail service. Making sure your email address is not posted online is the first step but that's not always possible beyond taking steps to try and prevent email scrapers from picking it up easily.

No out of the box email system is going to have a legit spam filter. Either pay for a real server, or you will get this kind of spam. Get hosted exchange that comes with it, use something like postini (even though they are going out of business)
The best answer would be, just host your email on google, its free or close to nothing for companies and they have built in anti-spam, AV etc... |

We would love to set you up at XenLayer on one of our OpenVZ plans. A virtual machine is the first step up from shared hosting, but you do get full root admin access and it has the same possibilities as a dedicated server.
SpamAssassin is included with the default setup as well as Clam Anti-Virus scanner, but there are many alternatives to it. An NginX configuration instead of Apache is also possible to boost performance. I wouldn't go with anything less than 1024 MB (starting at $14.95) if you get such heavy mail and want to run any kind of spam filter worth running, as they tend to be memory intensive. We could help you set up any other filtering software, and if you prefer, a VPS could also function as your remote mail and MySQL server for example.

Dedicated , VPS etc none of this will help unless you get a real spam filter solution. Host with google . A dedicated server running an email server is no different then shared email server. Host ur email with google and stop listening to people telling you to spend more. Spend less and get more.

Different mail servers have different filtering capabilities. When you go for shared hosting, you are stuck with what the host has installed on the shared server or what the control panel they have depends on. I believe cPanel (which we offer as an addon) only runs with Exim mail server for example (also CentOS only, no 'light weight' possibilities like Debian). Postfix (our default) mail server has good ones: http://www.postfix.org/addon.html - that having said I don't know what Amerinoc uses for mail, but I'm sure they also have good filter capabilities available. Talk to them if they want to install some addon for you.

Hmm,i also use shared amerinoc account for mails, and dont have problem with spam, there is maybe one or two which slips thru spam assassin. But i also have another account where is installed whm/cpanel with boxtrapper feature,i even created thread about it:
https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1061537 So best would be to get some cheap shared account with cpanel and use it for mails only. |

@OP, you can do multiple things: 1) forward all your email to a gmail account 2) use third party spam services like goole hosted mail, spamarrest etc 3) get a host which can do more in terms of spam filtering, by appliances or a customized setup |

Why you ar listening to most of the technologically clueless here is beyond me. Go pay extra for a dedicated server get the same results. I will laugh. If your host isnt using a top l spam filter appliance like barracuda or ironport and ofter this to you at an extra cost. You cant do anything except delete your junk mail box in outlook 10 times a day. Use google you fucking numbskull. It costs nothing and will solve ir problem. |

I will say this again. You can utilize your own domain on google. It does not have to be a gmail account. I am on my iphone so i cant send a link right now, but search google for hosting domain on gmail. Just change ur MX record on ur dns to point there and BaM. Ur domain, gooogle system, no spam |

Not really, take a look at this article to see an impression of what our Postgrey (greylisting server) can do on a Postfix mail server: http://www.virtualmin.com/node/9608 or http://postgrey.schweikert.ch/
Updating MX records to use a dedicated postfix virtual machine speaks for itself and might be a more affordable solution. Barracuda and google offer you the same thing but with different services installed. You can get a shared account with us as well and have these features available. No need to bash me because we don't use commercial spam filters like Barracuda or Google, it's actually a cheaper solution I offer this guy to reduce spam. Besides, were you not the first one to tell this guy to use a 'real' server? And now you're saying the opposite since I posted a solution to his spam problem which we offer. Come up with your own anti-spam solution instead of posting shit like this.

I don't think they are charging existing users - Although that does not help you ![]() I have an old account, but I am not sure if the domain has expired - If it has not you can have that and add your domain to the account - I am pretty sure you can do that. |
