Gun Enthusiast With Popular Online Videos, Armed To The Teeth, Is Shot to Death in Georgia

Geeze, what happened? He had more guns than you can count - and he really knew how to use them! He was invulnerable!

Quote:
CARNESVILLE, Ga. ? Keith Ratliff loved guns. He built his own rifles. He kept bullets in his car?s cup holder. And on the rear window he slapped a sticker of the Starbucks Coffee mermaid firing two pistols. ?I ♥ Guns and Coffee,? it read.

Mr. Ratliff?s passion for firearms made him something of a celebrity on the Internet, where he helped make scores of videos about high-powered and exotic guns and explosives. His YouTube channel, called FPSRussia, became the site?s ninth largest, with nearly 3.5 million subscribers and more than 500 million views.

But last week, the authorities said, Mr. Ratliff, 32, ended up on the wrong end of a gun. The police in northeast Georgia found him dead at his office on Jan. 3, shot once in the head. He was surrounded by several guns, but not the one that killed him. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is treating it as a homicide.

...

The news, coming amid a national debate about gun control, rippled across the blogs and social networking sites where his videos were popular. Tributes on Facebook and Twitter came from fans stunned that such a well-armed expert had not been able to defend himself.

True (and that's good). But none of his 945,723,656 high-powered guns kept him safe, either.

Just sayin'

NRA logic would say he should've had 945,723,657 guns - he'd be safe.

Was there a shootout, or was he shot by someone he knew and trusted in his office?

Either way, someone is always going to lose a gun fight and there is no way to protect yourself from someone you trust or don't otherwise expect would kill you. All the guns or combat training in the world won't protect you from someone who gets the jump on you.

Gun owners seem to think that just because they have firearms, they will be able to protect themselves. They all watch way too much TV. When these things happen - robberies, break ins, home invasions, they happen quickly and you don't have the time to respond. Even if you have your firearm handy, all this means is that you are now armed and have the potential to protect yourself - You might be able to have a long discussion about the differences in two kinds of ammos, but chances are you cannot handle a tactical situation.

All of this leads up to the end - do you have the balls to potentially take someone's life? Every last firearm owner will tell you they can do it, but most cannot. Some US Marines go into combat they freeze up when it's time to pull the trigger. It's not fear - they can handle that - but it's the taking of another man's life that locks them up.

Great point. That's why I don't understand why high level politicians and celebrities have armed body guards. As you so rightly point out, guns obviously cannot protect them, so why bother? Why doesn't the secret service simply hire really big guys to scare people away, and stop with all the handguns, snipers, etc.... Like you said, guns don't protect anyone, and this story proves it, right? Look at all the anti-gun politicians that have carried themselves.... don't they realize that those guns won't do anything to protect them? We need to disarm the secret service and all of these body guards that celebs use. Obviously it doesn't help. Heck, there are police that are killed even with them carrying guns. This story is all the proof I need.

Can't fault the logic here....

you guys think just because he owned 1000 guns that he walked around at all times with a loaded gun in his hand? Fuck no. A gun is only going to help you if you have it and can use it. If it was someone he knew standing by him and he gets a gun pulled on him or even the fucking pizza guy for that matter all the guns in the world do you no good if you cannot use them. I doubt he got a phone call saying were coming to kill you on your mark get set go......

it wasnt the guy you see in the videos. Its the guy that made it all possible. Behind the scenes this guy ran everything and made it successful.

I talked to the guy that was shot several times last year about potential business opportunities. We had numerous half hour to hour long phone calls over the course of the year. He was smart as shit and knew his stuff about guns and was on a name to name basis with many gun manufacturers.

Im still waiting on all the real details as Ive heard numerous stories about what happened.
