The sequester is all over the news. It's all they're talking about. I've heard so much bullshit about it. The corporate media is doing a typically shitty job of explaining the situation. People need to understand what happened, and why.

His own words, or some BS from Newsweek/Daily Beast. Reading that article really explains why they're broke.

I am so sick of all of their bullshit. Instead of fixing the problem they just kick the can down the road a little and then in a few months they have to deal with the next crisis to keep the country from collapsing. This way they don't actually have to do anything and can blame the other side for not getting anything done.

GrantMercury...
In 2011 we lost a notch on our credit rating as a country. Congress passed a law called the Budget Control Act Of 2011. President Obama signed it into law. Everybody congratulated each other on it. Republicans and Democrats. It was a great day! The news media hailed it as a huge step forward in getting our credit rating back and addressing the debt and deficit problems. Today...Pres. Obama is pretending that this is some horrible nightmare that must never happend. And Congress is doing the same thing! Meanwhile...the exact same media news anchors who were joyous and proclaiming The Budget Control Act Of 2011 as a tremendous show of leadership from Pres. Obama in 2011 are now grimly reporting about the horrible "sequestration" that will destroy the country. It's a goddamn insult to all of us how these politicians and the media are playing us like fools. Bottom line is...the govt. doesn't want to cut ANYTHING. Cutting takes away the money they are taking from us and diminishes their power. |

We need a change. Clearly Obama doesn't have the balls. Here's how it works from... If this vote fails before the deadline, Congress stops. No paycheck, no drivers, no security. No phones, no lights in their offices. No free haircuts - Congress has it's own barber - no paychecks (again), and Congress's secret little bank shuts down meaning no checks can be written. On top of this, they aren't allowed to leave Washington DC until the problem is fixed. You want to see shit get done in Congress - shut their crap off. Take away all of their perks and paychecks, they'll fucking jump for us.

On 15 August 1971, the United States unilaterally terminated convertibility of the US$ to gold. This brought the Bretton Woods system to an end and saw the dollar become fiat currency.[1] This action, referred to as the Nixon shock, created the situation in which the United States dollar became a reserve currency used by many states. At the same time, many fixed currencies (such as GBP, for example), also became free floating.
and that is where the problem started.....we will never be able to pay back the interest on fiat currency loaned to the government by the fed....

In 2013...not so much. Those particular problems that Eisenhower was working on have been addressed for 57 years now. Kinda like how the federal govt. waged a "war on poverty" starting decades ago, spent TRILLIONS of dollars...and yet the streets are still full of homeless people living in poverty. I think (no..I KNOW) that in the beginning a lot of things the feds try to do have sincere intentions. But after a few years they become bureaucracies and employers of govt. employees. And they then become never-ending money pits because it becomes what people do to earn a GOOD living. They no longer address an actual problem, but instead are just another govt. job being paid for by tax dollars while current issues that really could use some federal oversight are shortchanged. |

If you want to fix the spending problems, start out with cutting the politicians themselves. But the budgets they have. Cut the income they make, cut the travel, the perks cut it all by 50%. They all got into those positions saying they wanted to work for the people. The reality is they got in to get paid. Its a Job for gods sake. But even then while getting paid they are fucking it off just to make more.

Even with the numbers of people we could hit with the message, the media hits more. People believe whats on the TV.
Find a way to cut off the " Idiot tube " and this country might straighten out some.

Right.. and the Republicans are bending over backwards to come to a compromise by getting a little and giving in a little. It's always the same BS with the Right.. You guys never want to give up anything of your own, but always expect the other side to give everything to you.

correct me if i am wrong but i believe we were facing the fiscal cliff sometime back in 2011, shit about to hit the fan, credit rating downgraded.
no agreements in sight, Obama wrote this bill and made it purposely very very grave with the thought that surely congress would find a solution before it would come to this. congress passed the bill and obama signed it, no? Rochard, I agree with you 100%. All voters should unanimously agree NOT to re elect any of those knuckle heads in Congress, ever ever again.. No matter what they individually promise.

Some people don't have to be intentionally dumbed-down. They just truly don't care.
At least all the folks who watch MSNBC and Fox News and CNN are interested and looking for knowledge and insight. The majority of people don't even bother or care about the news in any way, shape, or form. |

Yes, I knew Eisenhower was a good Republican. I didn't know the GOP platform was ever that liberal, though. I haven't had time to look into it. It'd be great if the Repubs took their party back from the crazies.

The teabagging GOP was playing chicken with the nation's economy. Otherwise there would be no "sequester."
If Obama is guilty of anything, it's being a bad negotiator. I'll concede that. The driving force behind this dreary fucking mess is the debt ceiling games the Repiggies are playing - the GOP threatening to not pay the bills they themselves have already incurred. This shit has never gone on before. There is no longer any line the teapublicans won't cross. |
