where is franck LOL, I sold all of mine but 1 today right after I made the post about holding them. I spoke to two people and heard enough. One said wait till 400 and he sold his so screw it. They will crash sooner or later. It is not like they can go up forever. I still think they will go higher but no need to risk it

Bitcoins were indeed severely overbought for a while, indicative of a lot of hot money coming into the latest ?cool thing?, forming a temporary speculative bubble.

I personally prefer this tracker http://bitcoinity.org/markets?curren...exchange=mtgox

But yeah, currently down to $77 from $95

Would one thing cause this to happen?

The bitcoin price used to be easily swayed by people with a lot of bitcoins back in the day. Someone could sell off 10,000 coins at $1 under market and cause a panic sell-off, then buy them all back at a lower price, which also creates support shooting the price back up. I don't know if that's still possible now but it could be.

yeah, i found the thread elsewhere that nailed the selloff yesterday, but guessed it would start tomorrow

Quote:
another big sell-off this weekend?
The signs are there for a big sell-off / profit take for this weekend?

a) Big price rise during the week
b) Banks shut from Friday to Monday so not much money coming in

Any counter-indications to say we aren't going to suddenly plummet Friday night or Saturday again? Only to "mysteriously" recover all losses by next Tuesday?

Last week I tried to sell off 10% of my holdings early into the panic selling, but the order didn't fulfil so I canceled it, and prices were back to pre-panic levels by Monday.

This week .... who knows. What I do know is if the price drops start to drop, you have to sell early if you are going to stay on the right side of the trade.

that was posted yesterday morning at a large bitcoin board

Looks like there was a ddos and 1 or 2 people manipulating things at the same time. They created a small crash.
Everything will be fine after the weekend again.
Too bad i was afk. Could've made some quick money.

was it an organized ddos? seemed like it couldnt handle the load of everyone going to the site to sell and buy at the same time. i know the mtgox api was like 7 minutes behind the market.

next time i see some indicators that its dropping im selling high and buying low. get a few free btc's along the way.

I too hate Dwolla. I used them for transferring money in and out of mtgox quite a lot. Then they started getting stricter and requiring shit ton of Identification and blood samples and shit.

They totally put TradeHill out of business back in the day. That was a great exchange. They advertised zero charge back risk to their merchants. One day they gave tradehill like 30k or more of chargebacks. They tried to change their terms of service and website after the fact but the internet never forgets.

Lawsuit now in court. Tradehill just opened up again though.

Well let's see... The average botnet is comprised of mostly old shitty unsecured computers. 95% of the GPUs that are infected in the botnet are not capable of any kind of decent output. With the constant strain on the CPU even computer illiterate people will notice and be on the phone with tech support so they can get back to status updates on twitter and facebook and there goes the majority of your hard earned botnet.

There is only one person I see bitcoin mining with a botnet of 10,000+ computers. He claims the output is 20GH/s on the botnet. That's pocket change compared to what the majority of professional miners are outputting. Even the new ASIC miners will push 60GH/s. Serious miners will have multiple rigs. 10 ASIC miners would net 1 person 600GH/s.

So all in all, if you did any research you'd know that botnetters have reported trying it and found it to be not profitable.

just got this on the pricing structure for batch 3 avalons, wow!

http://store.avalon-asics.com/?product=avalon-asic-unit

Pricing is based on BTC, and not USD. So depending on configuration, it is 72BTC to 115BTC (which is >usd 4200K for lowest config, at current BTC price).
