You may want to pick up some Feathercoins
Hey, don't shoot the messenger!
I too think all these alt currencies are kinda ridiculous but they are here and you can either ignore them or make some money off them. It looks like Feathercoins are gaining in popularity and price. People call Bitcoin a hype, well this is obviously a real hype. As far as i can tell it's just people buying who missed the Bitcoin boat and hope for some quick money. Silly or not i think it could be smart to buy some Feathercoins now...i predict a quick high and a big crash in the near future. Just make sure you sell at the right time. |

Yeap got lucky and came across them within 12 hours of there announcement. There is so much money to be made with they currency's its sickening.
in the process of creating my own coin. Got the pool done and the exchange done. Working on creating the first genesis hash for the new coin. Will beta test everything for 2 weeks then will go live with no coins mined. Coming from a marketing background this should be the bronze coin if LTC is the silver coin phenixtrader.com |

Yea I know, I'm at a cross road at this point and not sure what to do as far as what hardware to go with. I have plenty of space and cooling, what are you currently mining with?

They've literally just started slowly sending out the 5 gh/s boards. They had to redesign the 50 gh/s ones, case and everything so those aren't being shipped yet. If you ordered now you might not get it to July or August. They were supposed to start shipping last October. I have one on order.

Feathercoin is not traded on btc-e yet, hmm, but LTC and NVC are getting too hard to mine already. Went from getting 1.5 LTC a day to 0.4 a day, :|
NVC was about 0.3 a day which equates to 0.03 BTC every 3-4 days.

Mining Feathercoins would be your best bet now.
With a 7970 card you'd be mining 70 coins a day. Thats 2100 coins a month which is 3.2 BTC which is 464 dollars a month. With just 1 GPU. That's pretty ridiculous. In a good way. |

Unfortunate thing about ASIC miners is you can't mine any other coin with them as far as I understand. ASIC chips are designed to perform only 1 specific function. Since other coins use a different function of mining they won't be any good. Maybe with a firmware upgrade or some heavy hacking/modifications.
I could only imagine an ASIC miner mining feathercoin at the rate of 10,000 coins a day...

When I first started mining bitcoin over a year ago I bought a 5850 and new power supply to support it for something like $200. I made $700 in bitcoin mining in the first month. As much as I would like to buy more video cards I don't think it will be worth it like it was back then. I'm only doing ~240Khash/s with that card and a laptop doing 55Khash/s. I could get the desktop graphics up to 300 but I don't like my GPU over 80 degrees so it's actually underclocked quite a bit.

an Underclocked 5850 doing ~230Khash and a laptop doing 50Khash. cgminer reports them both at those speeds buy the pool is only registering it as 167. Sometimes the pool is wrong and doesn't reflect your actual khash though.

The first 2 definitely not sure about feathercoins yet.
I'll try a different pool and see if I get better results.

I was, but I think there was something wrong, it kept saying my 5850 was only outputting 40-80Khash but cgminer is still showing 230khash on it. The laptop was showing proper khash on both the site and cgminer.

Well last week it kept crashing after a few minute or hours so I checked the forums and they recommended using --shaders 1440 (the number of shaders on my card) which made it stable but I didn't pay attention to how many HW errors it was throwing. So now I switched it to --thread-concurrency 7200 instead of --shaders and the HW errors went away and it's been stable so far.
The pool is reporting ~300Khash/s for me.
