A woman just released from the hospital after losing both arms, an eye, and an ear to her three pet pit bulls has now lent her voice in support of an ordinance that would toughen controls of the breed in her area.

Linda Henry of Westwego, Louisiana, was nearly ripped apart May 12 when three of her four pet pit bulls, a breed commonly known for their ferocious temperament, brutally attacked her within inches of her life.

Now out of the hospital, the still shell-shocked 54-year-old says she supports a Westwego lawmaker?s attempts to put stiff restrictions on the breed through a city ordinance.

Their house is in disarray and needs repairs, they talk like they are ghetto trash and most importantly, they treated them like 'kids' NOT like animals.

Dogs don't just attack for no reason, no matter the breed, something motivated these animals to attack their owner, we may never know what, but because the owner just said 'they just attacked for no reason' and she was injured, we just believe what they say.

I have owned pits and pit mixes for close to 10 years and have NEVER had an issue, teach them correctly when they are pups and they will have respect for their owners and others around them.

Our latest pit puppy has just started teething, she has already tried nipping at us playfully, she got hit on the nose, relatively hard for her size and she has never tried it again.

Remember, these are, for all intents and purposes dumb animals, they need to be trained constantly while they are young to know what the correct way of behaving around family members and other people is, if they are treated like humans, they will think they can act like humans and interact with anyone and everyone... They cant... Period.

I really hope that's sarcasm.. The majority of pits I have known have been stupidly lovey, extremely loyal dogs.. The ones that were mean or aggressive were due to their owners not handling them properly, most of which was just chain aggression.. Any dog can turn given the proper circumstances, some more so than others..

Not many other dog breeds will fight to the death just because you asked them to. I'm sorry but that's some serious loyalty in my book.. Now train them to do something better than rip other dogs apart and you have an amazing pet..

My dog is half pit and half beagle. Luckily enough I was not around to see THAT conception happen. Even if he is a bit aggressive, he is too small to bite off my arms. - although he did scratch my dressy leather coat..

I love Pitbulls. One of my dog's play buddies is a grey pit, and he's great.

The breed just attracts a certain kind of person(mostly) who should not be raising any living thing.

Here's my non-expert opinion on pitbulls. Some are gentle, some are vicious, by nature all can be dangerous if prompted. So how do you know? I don't so I stay away from the breed entirely. Won't own one won't let my dog near one.

On the other hand I have zero problem taking my old girl to my friends house with his 300 lbs of German Shepard and Mastiff.

Jonny, now a certified therapy dog, is just one example of former Vick dogs making positive contributions to their communities ? all thanks to a huge public uprising. ?A lot of people wrote, called and petitioned to have the Vick dogs saved, which saved [Jonny?s] life,? While Vick, former NFL starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, was on trial for felony dogfighting in late 2007, an enormous number of dog lovers demanded the pit bulls be saved from near-certain execution.

?Some people were saying the dogs should all be killed; they?re killing machines. Others said they should all be saved,? says Stephen Zawistowski, Ph.D., CAAB, an executive vice president of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New York.

Some vocal national groups held the position that all dogs confiscated in dogfighting cases are dangerous and should be euthanized once the trial ended. Other groups, including Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah, and Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit Bulls (BAD RAP), located in San Francisco, requested individual evaluations that would identify the dogs that were good candidates for rehabilitation and a new life.

?Fighting dogs, previous to the Vick case, were automatically put down without assessment,? says Marthina McClay, certified professional dog trainer and founder of Our Pack Inc., a pit-bull rescue group in San Jose, Calif. ?Any dog can be damaged in an abusive situation, but let?s find out what?s going on with the dog first.?

Vick dogs evaluated
Fortunately for the Vick dogs, Judge Henry Hudson and Mike Gill, assistant U.S. attorney, opted for evaluations. Of the 54 Vick dogs initially seized, 49 were placed with rescue groups. Of the remaining dogs, two were euthanized (one for health reasons, the other for aggression issues), one went into law enforcement and two died shortly after they were seized.

After several rounds of evaluations, 22 of the dogs were sent for sanctuary care with Best Friends. The rest went to foster homes through seven other groups across the country, including Animal Rescue of Tidewater in Norfolk, Va., and the Georgia SPCA.

What an incredibly dumb way to measure loyalty.

Pits are good for fighting other pits in back alleys for money by white trash and ghetto people.

I agree with your first point, though, but I still wouldn't own such an overall dumb breed. It's been so watered down now with the shitty pits that there are literally only 2 or 3 breeders in the country with decent pits.

I think it has a lot to do with the way dogs are raised.

I have a dog, although I am not much of a dog person. She's a black lab, must be about ten years old now. She's an inside dog, I walk her every day; Our dog is like a member of the family. I have two neighbors, one on either side of us, who both have large dogs... Who have never ever taken their dogs for a walk - in years.

I had a Vizsla that I had to give away when I had my son. We got him at around 2 year old, before that he was part of a hunting pack we figure. He was a very gentle dog, but you really couldn't go near his food, or grab him if he was under a desk etc.

I couldn't control that first 2 years, and it was all the difference in the world. When we got him he already had a paw that was broken and healed, a big scar on his snout, and didn't respond to "sit" or anything like that.

Not worth the risk to have him around my baby.

There's so many other dogs to choose from, I'm not sure why people are so bent on having a pitbull.

That's a cool video & all, but pits aren't protective breeds by nature(a well bred pit isn't anyways). They will most certainly intimidate & all that, but their "protectiveness" is usually fear manifesting itself as a bite/growl/etc.

What makes you think Pit bulls are so dumb? They actually score quite high 83% - 85% on temperament tests http://www.atts.org. That's higher than average. Just out of curiosity, and not to single you out or anything, but how much time have you actually spent with Pit bulls? I suspect that 99.9% of the negative and false comments about Pits come from people who've never even spent time with them. It's easy to simply write off an entire breed like they are all the same. My father owned 5 total growing up as a kid & I was around them often with his friends dogs being pits mostly also. They were fairly well bred pits, but this was during the '90s. My brother breeds them now once in a while. I am probably around a decent pit for 2-3 hours once per week. I've met two out of the hundreds that I've been impressed with as far as intelligence goes(& that was in comparison to other pits). The ones I interact with often are loving & playful & all that, but I wouldn't say anything even remotely close to "intelligent". Your reaction was typical, though, of most amateur pit owners I've met. I have nothing against the breed at all - they're just dumb. So are many other breeds & I also wouldn't own them for that very reason. A well behaved pit is probably great for therapy & such, because they can be incredibly loving and playful.. but I don't want that & that also doesn't suggest anything about their intelligence.

When comparing them to the dogs I'm around very often that are being trained to be sent to the border patrol, royalty/rich for estate protection, etc., they're dumb. The two I own as well, but whatever. I had this "discussion" with a local who thought his pit was "oh so smart" and him and his dog got laughed away from our ScH club because the dog was very dumb & couldn't do ANYTHING as soon as any amount of stress was applied. He thought he was going to show me up, but now he admits that pits may be smart for the typical sit, roll over, play dead crap, but that's about it. If your dog can follow a scent of meth & find it buried 2 feet underground 3 miles away in the middle of the woods, I'll shut up. Temperament has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence, so I'm unsure why you brought that up at all.
