Sometimes cover songs are better than the original, more times not. Other times they are so close to the original that you wonder why they bothered. Then there are the occasions where an artist totally puts their own spin on it or takes it to an entirely different genre.

Lots of good ones. The Johnny Cash version of NIN "Hurt" is one of my favorites.

Bruce Springsteen is a huge entertainer, but two of his songs, I felt were done even better as covers:

A few great Simon and Garfunkel tunes covered:
