What an idiot that woman is. This is a great example of the state of news reporting today all over the world.

He was brilliant in his handling of her stupidity.

i think this is a great example, when your news channel has an agenda, that you send out experienced journalists to go on the attack. Clearly this journalist was a rookie & not prepared to fight fox news' fight.

Thousands of them. TV news in the US is just awful... dreadful. Actually, TV in the US is awful in general--all I can watch nowadays is sports.

Horrible. Just horrible.

It's hard to take either of them seriously.

How can you know so much about something which doesn't exist ?? The mind boggles...

I think you guys missed the point of the interview and what Lauren Green was after while doing the interview.

For starters, he does not have a PhD in the history of religions. Aslan has four degrees: a Bachelors of Religious Studies from Santa Clara University; a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School; a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Iowa; and a PhD in sociology of religions from the University of California, Santa Barbara (his dissertation was on ?Global Jihadism: a transnational social movement.

Aslan also claims that he has a degree in the New Testament. But is this true? Santa Clara doesn?t offer a degree in the New Testament so he can?t be talking about his Bachelors. Perhaps he is referring to the Master?s of Theological Studies degree he earned from Harvard Divinity School in 1999. That school does offer an ?area of focus? in ?New Testament and Early Christianity.? Is Aslan claiming this was his degree?s area of focus at Harvard? (If so, this would make his claim about having a ?degree in New Testament? misleading, at best.)

While this is a possibility, it raises the question of how ? armed with only a Master?s degree with a focus on the New Testament ? he became the first full-time professor of Islam in the history of the state of Iowa.

And that makes him a professor of childrens fairtytales.

It's just amazing how grown people take "religion" so seriously in 2013.

We look back at ancient civilizations....and their religions are now called "myths".

It's so obvious to anyone with any intelligence that Jesus and Mohammed are Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

I wouldnt be so dismissive of religion. I think there is the possibility of God.

for example, we cannot see air. We can feel it, & we can see that things move in the wind. Does the fact we cannot see air mean it does not exist?

& i simply find it unlikely that the earth is the perfect distance from the sun, has the perfect tilt, & the perfect speed of spin, & has oxygen, & has water, & has a protective ozone layer, & is not located near a black hole, & has trees to scrub the CO2, has oceans to manage the temperature, & humans were created from monkeys, who were created from fish, who were created from ameoba, & there is no engineer that made all of this happen? Could las vegas have constructed itself without an intelligent designer? its nothing but sand.

It all happened at random, according to athiests. I find that hard to believe. Rather, i see all the miraculous & perfect coincidences that created human civilizations & i say, yes, there must be a god. i cannot see him, but like the air, i know it is there because i see the other signs pointing to Him.

But i would agree the organized religions are cartoons now, relevant mostly due to traditions.

jolly ho.

I will say this after seeing in the video that he could very well be a pompous asshole, and he himself is putting too much emphasis on his education too - judging people's knowledge and expertise by what degree(s) they have has got to fucking go. That is the fucking downfall of our civilization, especially when most of us know that most colleges are a joke and even many constantly drunk partiers are able to get through it. Our presidents that people love to hate like Dubya had degrees from prestigious colleges. Abraham Lincoln didn't even have a degree and went to school for only about a year in his entire life. What difference does a piece of paper make to what someone actually knows or has expertise in?

Gravity over time. Why create the whole rest of the universe to build 1 perfect "Earth"?

Astronomists have found other planets similar to earth - generally larger and not exactly the same, but yea - it's hard with the vastness of the universe for us to be able to see that many more planets up close first-hand, but if we could, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more planets like ours out there.

It's also kind of silly to assume life can't exist in other circumstances on other planets. We've only been able to closely examine what, Mars and Venus? So we've had the ability to examine a whopping 3 planets when there are a nearly countless amount of star systems out there and some of us are somehow convinced that there is no other life in the universe? It's impossible to be convinced that there's not at the least microscopic life on Neptune or Pluto. We don't think there is because we make the assumption based on physics we know, but hey, based on physics we knew a couple thousand years ago, people thought the Earth was flat and that the universe rotated around the Earth.

I'm not saying it's not possible for there to be a god who constructed all of this, but I think it's far more possible for there to be a god that constructed the universe that for all we know has created millions of other universes and couldn't give a shit less about us. People want to believe there's a supreme being out there that cares about them because the alternative is essentially being one of a ridiculously huge amount of lifeforms in a ridiculously vast universe with a ridiculously short lifespan that is alone other than knowing and interacting with a relatively tiny amount of other lifeforms in their lifetime. They want their life to have meaning, even though they would admit that the vast majority of animal and plant life on this planet has no meaning in comparison to theirs. Insects have a lifespan of days. There are probably amounts of them being born and dying every day that are larger numbers than most of us have ever heard of. Does a god care about each and every one of those insects? Or are we the special ones on this planet because we're blessed with intelligence? If we are, why don't we have longer lives? We are not even the animals with the longest lifespan on this planet.

I can't believe there is even a discussion of this...Religion is a bunch of made up fairytales.

"God" sends "his son"...who is actually "HIM" to Earth to live as a human to die for our "sins".

And then ZOMBIE Jesus rises up from the grave after 3 days. (why 3? why "die" to begin with? Why all this idiotic bullshit?)

And then Jesus is going to come back, blah, blah, blah...only somewhere down the line a couple of thousand years went by. I guess Jesus forgot to come back. But I'm sure it will happen any day now. lol

It's fairy tales made up by primitive people who didn't even know what a bacteria was or a germ...so everytime the whole village of goat herders got sick: It was God's WRATH!

The whole thing is stories made up by a tribe of Jewish primitive tribal people. And here we are still talking about it (thanks to the "organization" of "religion" to have power over people) in 2013 as if it's real.

No wonder so many people are able to be exploited and taken advantage of.

God, or the original energy source, has nothing to do with religion and in fact would be on the other end of the spectrum. Religion is a scam made up by a few intelligent people to manipulate and control weak minded idiots.

Yeah, why bother understanding the belief systems that have formed and continue to form the world in which we live. You don't have to be religious to study religion.

Anyway, he did well not to just finish his first sentence and drop the mic as he left.

You can know the origins of what people believe and how they have evolved and impacted the world. I have atheist friends with comparative religion degrees because whether or not they believe the things they are studying about happened, the way those beliefs have impacted history is real. If anything, it is more like a history discipline.

Plenty of people have a PHD in literature knowing most of what they are reading is fiction.

To be fair tJesus and Moses were real people. They did walk the earth and we're not imaginary made up people. Their legend is of course a bit far stretched, but they did exist.

The part I'm talking about is that he kept repeating he had all these degrees in theology. Which makes him a professor of fairytales.

And Lauren Greene is smoking hot and a great piano player as well...but she's infected by "crazy" just as much as most people for believing the tales of goat herders from thousands of years ago and thinking it's all "real". So her condescending attitude that was on display because she thinks her Christian fairy tale is better than the Islamic fairy tale just boggles my mind.

Both of those people are intelligent, well educated, and well traveled. And in everything else in their lives they use sound judgement...EXCEPT when it comes to their belief in superstitious nonsense.

Par for the course of the brain trust known as Fox News. If someone doesn't think they're a bunch of clowns, you should run as far away from that person as possible.
