Kerry accuses Syria of using chemical agents; US preparing to release evidence

Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday accused Syria of using chemical weapons against its people, and U.S. officials told NBC News that they would release intelligence evidence to prepare the public for a possible military response.

President Barack Obama hasn't made any decision on whether wage strikes against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters Monday. But other U.S. officials told NBC News that the administration could begin laying the groundwork by disclosing the evidence as early as Tuesday.

The officials said an attack isn't imminent, because it will take time to make all the information public, and preparations must be coordinated with allies including Britain, France and Turkey. The U.S. is also unlikely to attack while a U.N. weapons team remains in Syria ? and it isn't scheduled to leave until Sunday.

The officials reiterated that any military action would be limited and not targeted at Assad because its goal would be to respond to the use of chemical weapons. Targets would be command and control bunkers, airfields and artillery.

Kerry used unusually forceful language in a brief statement to reporters Monday, saying images that have emerged from Syria in the past week ? of entire families' being killed without shedding a drop of blood, of bodies' contorting in spasms ? "shock the conscience of the world."

He said the evidence was "undeniable" that the Syrian regime had used chemical agents. And he said Obama feels there must be accountability for those who use "the world's most heinous weapons."

Kerry spoke hours after the U.N. team trying to look into claims of a poison gas attack in a Syrian suburb was turned back by sniper fire. At the podium in Washington, Kerry spoke in pained personal terms, as a father, of watching and rewatching video of the aftermath of chemical attacks.

There is no right side to be on, there rarely is in the Middle East. If the US has incontrovertible evidence Assad used chemical weapons then the US will the support of the world should commence bombing of military targets.

The real solution for the betterment of the entire planet is for the US, Russia and China to seize every oil field in the Middle East, divide them between themselves and their allies. Freeze all their assets held in foreign banks. Let nature take its course, let them destroy each other and don't look back.

Iran and Lebanon will quickly get sucked in, after that's happened Russia and China could easily end up getting dragged in too. If you've got WWIII in the Middle-East there'll also be some False Flag attacks in the West to get us 'behind our troops'

While it's just Syria Vs (NATO + Rebels) I have no doubt that Russia will do what it can to covertly help Syria in any way possible, this is going to be a long war, not like Libya. The majority of the Syrian citizens will fight for Assad; they have not fallen for the propaganda.

As usually, it won't be open war like it is not anywhere, but pressure and terrorists support to make problems inside and weaken country. (like in Libya, Serbia,Syria now, etc). This while Dempsey supported a US military intervention in Syria in Fall of 2012, along with then CIA Director David Petraeus, previous Pentagon Chief Leon Panetta and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

According to the report, Hagel is scheduled to visit the Middle East next week, which will include stops in major backers of the anti-Damascus military bids Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Egypt. The entire trip is expected to focus on Syria.

honestly, i could see either side, even both sides using them to bring usa into this on their side. there doesn't seem to be any other reason to use them like they did on that neighborhood. i can't think of any other motivator for either side to use them other than that.

I have traveled the world quite a bit, i am in asia right now in fact.
I have met people from everywhere, from both sides of the equation.
Our side is told this or that, their side is told this or that. Who knows what is the truth anymore? Rarely has a story added up the way the news outlets make it seem.
