Sports card collectors?

Anyone here collect sports cards? More specifically anyone here familiar with sports card hobby/industry that also has strong programming skills? I'm hiring and/or partnering for a non-adult project. Lets talk.

Bumps from an ex-collector with zero programming skills.

do you need any? I bought two stores out, each over 40K dollars. I kept all the cards both opened and in boxes. Takes up two rooms. Have not even had the time to fuck with it. I do have some psa 10 rookie cards I need to sell before they get caught doing roids though LOL

The market has really dropped out of sports cards. I have tons of sealed packs of cards that are 20+ years old and they are next to worthless. I actually paid more for them when they first came out than they are worth now and that was at a %50 discount.

Crap, I just remembered there are about 30 full 5K count boxes in the office closet that I still have to organize and sell.

That is so true. Anything from the 80's and newer is not worth much with the exception of a few key players. They put out so many of those cards that the value is just not what it once was.

I collected them as a kid in the early to mid 80's then I used to come across them from time to time when I bought storage units. I never had much luck selling them.

you should sell memorabilia from TV persona's as well. Sports/TV go hand in hand.

I have some of American Chopper's Mikey Teutul artwork if interested.

Good luck with your shop,

You are so right about the 80s.

90s packs were opened to remove the inserts that went straight into protective sleeves while most of the regulars were treated as filler that piled up in boxes.

I will probably buy anything you have if the price is right....BUT...I didn't post to buy/sell/trade/ cards with GFY members...I'm seriously looking for any good programmers that have even a little knowledge of sports cards...even if it was 20 years ago...for instance you should know what a Beckett magazine is ;)

Unfortunately cards produced in the 80's thru mid 90's were just over produced so there aren't many rarities ...everyone and their dog thought they were buying their retirement when they grabbed a .25 cent pack from every checkout stand and grocery store so the sports card companies just went with it and had massive print runs on every card...the hobby is not what it used to be and I've got a pretty rad idea brewing but need to find someone to work with me on the code.

That and 95% of those cards are still in near mint to mint condition, the card stocks used are infinitely superior to pre 80s and they are well preserved these days. Retail prices of the 90s packs were inflated to several dollars per pack with fewer cards per pack, so very few children could afford them anymore and destroy them with their grubby little hands. It will be at least a century before degradation settles in and is cause for any true rarities and antiqueness.

The inserts were where the easy money was at for the psuedo collectors ..... until the real collectors finally had enough and told them to insert the inserts up their asses. No longer being paid ransoms for little rectangular pieces of cardstock, the psuedo collectors were stuck with their hostages. The super inflated prices of these rarities engineered to be collectible imploded and they were for the most part, worthless.

Many brick & mortar collectibles stores caught up in this madness and a likewise insanity involving comic books went belly up between 94 -96.

Shit! I think i'm gonna review all the things i've collected over the years and try and find out the value of everything as it stands. Obviously i don't expect to sell them any time soon anyway since i wanted to keep them all for many years still, but i'm interested to see about any value as it stands...

You can nearly count on your hands all the cards that are over $100 from 1985-1995.

Think I've got a 1970s Nolan Ryan card somewhere. And then a ton of useless shit. No coding skills though
The word Beckett brings back a few memories

I'm an avid sports card collector and have a GIANT collection in multiple sports. Love collecting rare gem mint 10's and autographs. I have a subscription to Beckett online as well and use it to price my collection. If you want to chat about your project shoot me an e-mail to sarah [at] zuzanadesigns.com

Funny I just found a 91 upper deck final edition set still wrapped in the cellophane. I figured it might be worth $20-$50. I saw people selling them on Ebay basically for free + shipping. I'm pretty sure it went for $10-$30 retail at the time. It's amazing how that market collapsed so much to the point where those things are near worthless 20 years later. Funny though, the autographs have mostly retained their value.

I know *a lot* about collecting them from when I was a teen and though I have programming skills it probably isn't to the degree you need.

You of all people shouldn't really be that amazed, considering the exact same thing is happening all over again now in the online adult arena.

It is just happening in reverse.
