Cancer patient chooses to die over paying his new obamacare bill

Obama voter booted off his existing plan would rather feed his kids for the remainder of his life than pay the new hefty price to continue on under obamacare.

BREAKING NEWS: Fox News Cancer Patient Bill Elliott Doesn?t Have to Die

Mr. Elliott has some legitimate gripes, but none of the information he?s been given on Obamacare is correct.

Kelly introduced Elliott as ?a viewer who just messaged us on Facebook telling us that after his insurance, which covered most of his cancer treatments, was cancelled, and he doesn?t know what to do.?

?So you have been getting treated and you found out your plan was cancelled. Why do you believe it was due to Obamacare?? Kelly asked.

After thanking her for having him on, Mr. Elliott replied ?I believe, because what a(n) insurance guy told me was it was beyond the catastrophic previous condition.?

That explanation was rather unclear, and Kelly quickly moved on to getting Elliott?s reaction to the President?s apology.

As the interview went on, Mr. Elliott seemed to indicate that his plan was already canceled, and not scheduled for cancellation Dec. 31, like most of the people getting letters transitioning them to new Obamacare policies.

It?s hard to judge based on the minimal information available here, but it?s possible that Mr. Elliott hit an annual limit on his old plan (which will be outlawed Jan. 1), and needed a new plan to cover him for the rest of the year. If that?s the case, then such a plan would be subject to preexisting condition limits and higher premiums, neither of which are the case with Obamacare plans.

It?s also possible that, like others, he?s getting a cancellation letter for Dec. 31 from an insurance company that?s trying to up-sell him an off-exchange plan. Some of what else Mr. Elliott said hints at the former, rather than the latter.

He later reveals that his old plan cost him about $170, and the one his ?insurance guy? offered would cost him $1500 a month, with a $13,500 deductible. However, the most expensive Obamacare plan offered to individuals over 50 on the exchange for South Carolina is $796.87 a month, for the most expensive Gold plan, and Bronze plans in the state start at $255.35 a month.

Kelly didn?t ask him, but Mr. Elliott might qualify for federal subsidies as well. For example, if he makes $26,000 a year, that Bronze plan would be $163.42 /mo., less than what he was paying before.

He also said ?Now with Obamacare, the man that I?ve got looked into it, they are not going to pay for pharmaceuticals or medical devices.? But under Obamacare, both of those categories are mandated as essential health benefits.

Either Mr. Elliott?s insurance man is giving him a bum steer, or something is being lost in translation. I?ve tried to get in touch with Mr. Elliott, but have thus far been unsuccessful.

It?s possible that Bill Elliott doesn?t qualify for subsidies, which means he could pay a more under Obamacare, and this has obviously caused him great distress, distress which might otherwise have been avoided with a functioning website, but he doesn?t have to let himself die in order to relieve his family of a $1500 insurance premium. Someone really needs to let him know that.

Don't you feel like a bit of shill after posting so many stories that are so easily debunked?

It really hurts what little credibility you have on this board.

You haven't debunked it, the article you presented gave possibilities based on guestimations.. The key issue here is a cancer patient is being booted off of his plan because of obamacare along with millions of others.

You can be rest assured I will not be getting married anytime soon, if ever because quite frankly it's now cheaper to not keep her unless she's unemployed... and my once healthy tax paying self-employed income will soon become a paycheck of the bare essentials.

In addition your articles scenario didn't factor in out of pocket expenses. As a cancer patient you can bet he's meeting and beating those. My dads cancer related bills were well over $500k over a 3 month period.. The families portion of that on the platinum or whatever B.S. top level plan? $50+k? After all my dads years of working he had saved just enough to pay to bury himself and that's only because he quit paying bills those last few months. The medical bill collectors still want their money..

I should note that the first round of cancer broke him financially. 5 years later the chemo treatments from the previous cancer round gave him a rare form of lymphoma.

Also the out of pocket maximums are B.S. If a doctor orders something the insurance company doesn't agree with (which happens more often than not) then the entire bill for said procedure is on the patient and not included in maximums. The insurance company refuses to pay it and in turn the doctor/hospital bills you.

In addition to all of it's other problems this law made it easier for the doctors/hospitals/insurance companies to come after your assets. While you might be happy to be alive when it's all said and done you will be a homeless happy.

Did you even read the article which I posted in rebuttal to the Fox hit piece?

The whole story is based on the cancer patient supposedly losing his insurance because of Obamacare, yet in the interview, he gave indications that in fact his insurance had previously been cancelled (unrelated to Obamacare):

Quote:
As the interview went on, Mr. Elliott seemed to indicate that his plan was already canceled, and not scheduled for cancellation Dec. 31, like most of the people getting letters transitioning them to new Obamacare policies.
In any case, he is is mistaken (or lying), about the monthly cost of Obamacare insurance in SC, where he lives:

Quote:
He later reveals that his old plan cost him about $170, and the one his ?insurance guy? offered would cost him $1500 a month, with a $13,500 deductible. However, the most expensive Obamacare plan offered to individuals over 50 on the exchange for South Carolina is $796.87 a month, for the most expensive Gold plan, and Bronze plans in the state start at $255.35 a month.
I'm sorry to hear about all of your hardships. I will be going from no health insurance (due to being self-employed with pre-existing conditions) to having to pay over $1,000 a month because of my income level. Not looking forward to the payments, but sure looking forward to the coverage.

If it is any consolation, President Obama announced today that he is trying to make it possible so that people will be entitled to keep their existing policies for one year:

Quote:
Obama letting people keep canceled health plans for another year

President Obama announced Thursday that his administration will let health insurers extend existing health plans on the individual and small-group markets into 2014. The administrative policy change will let insurers reach out to the millions of Americans being dropped from their plans so that they can renew their insurance for another year while the market adjusts to new Obamacare regulations.

"I completely get how upsetting this could be for a lot of Americans, particularly after assurances they heard from me," Mr. Obama said from the White House briefing room. "To those Americans, I hear you loud and clear."

Insurers that extend existing plans must also notify consumers of what protections these renewed plans do not include. They must also notify customers that there are more options available on the new Obamacare marketplaces that offer better coverage, and that tax credits are available for many consumers. While insurers will be able to let customers keep their existing plans for another year, they will not be able to let new customers buy these existing plans that do not meet new Obamacare standards.
Of course, the Party of No is doing everything they can to prevent anything positive from happening:

Quote:
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Thursday morning took the opportunity to pounce on the president, charging that his administrative fix wasn't good enough.

"It's clear the American people simply can't trust this White House," he said. "The only way to fully protect the American people is to scrap this law once and for all. There is no way to fix this."

You guys know that almost all of those Obamacare-horror Fox News stories get debunked, right? They try to sensationalize everything and will grab any little crumb they can and turn it into 9/11.

...and John Boehner shouldn't be saying anything about anything. He's the most worthless sack of shit House speaker the US has had in its history. Do you see Republicans ever trying to actually do something, like get affordable healthcare for the poor and middle class? No, because they're a bunch of assholes who only care about the elites in their little circle. They should actually try being for something, for a change instead of constantly fear mongering, rigging elections and trying to regulate women's coochies.

Watching Fox News for anything other than a laugh is kind of ignorant. Don't you know that?

I watch it all the time, but only to see what ridiculous shit they're making up.

This right here shows that once again another uninformed moron jumps on the bitch and moan bandwagon instead of informing themselves.

The guy clearly fell for a bait and switch, which is what most of these insurance companies have been doing. They are dropping policies blaming it on Obamacare than switching the customer to new more expensive policies. Instead of checking the exchange for a better price they just bitch and moan to Fox News, this has been the case with every single person Fox News has put on any of their shows. Everyone of them has been found out to either no be telling the full story or didn't bother to take 30 mins to educate themselves.

Obamacare's roll out is obviously far from perfect, but just about everyone of these idiots whom jump on national tv or news to bitch and moan have not educated themselves or simply are not telling the full story. Each one has been discredited.

He did in fact dubunk it. Right here:

He later reveals that his old plan cost him about $170, and the one his ?insurance guy? offered would cost him $1500 a month, with a $13,500 deductible. However, the most expensive Obamacare plan offered to individuals over 50 on the exchange for South Carolina is $796.87 a month, for the most expensive Gold plan, and Bronze plans in the state start at $255.35 a month.

The man said on national TV that his new insurance plan will cost him $1500 a month. But that's twice that the most expensive plan in his state costs - which is physically impossible.

This course, this is before any help kicks in from Obamacare. Depending on how much money he makes, his healthcare plan could cost less than what he is currently paying.

At the very same time, if he doesn't like his healthcare, under Obamacare he'll be able to change healthcare plans with is pre-exisiting condition.

This news article (video really) was completely misleading by telling us that his healthcare will cost twice as much as the most expensive plan he can get. And this typical of what the Republicans are doing - trash talking Obamacare so it looks bad. It's just like the cancelations they are talking - Policies change. Some get canceled. The vast majority of us who have employer paid medical benefits have open enrollment every year, and this is the same thing.

My GF has a disability. If she lives with me then my income is essentially considered hers. So I can either shell out her premiums and maximums which are met every year or she gets her own place (which is for now being covered by HUD due to her disability) and she gets free healthcare all of which is obviously much less expensive. Simply put it's $10's of thousands cheaper for her to live elsewhere. Living with me everything she makes and more would go to nothing but her healthcare.

Simply put it's $10's of thousands cheaper for her to live elsewhere. Living with me everything she makes and more would go to nothing but her healthcare.
But that is part of medicade not a problem with Obamacare. I believe you have a problem with your conservative state legislatures

My state already has something similar to obamacare which is tenncare.. This is what she was booted from. She's never actually technically claimed "disability." But now she is going to because there's no other financially feasible choice. Can she get recovered under obamacare? Sure, but the cost is going to be much higher.

So you're trying to say if she rents a room from someone or gets a room mate their income becomes hers? People that reside together have no legal ties whatsoever to the other other than a lease.

BREAKING FOX NEWS! onwebcam forced to swallow due to obamacare! onwebcam was quoted as saying "I'm forced to swallow my boyfriend's seed rather than take it in the ass due to fear of butt babies and how they will increase my obamacare insurance premium!"

How can the government determine whether you are a roommate or bf and gf? They don't make those determinations. The question is who else lives in your household and how much is their income not who lives in your household and are you fucking them or not? If so he needs to pay if not then you're good to go! If you apply for any sort of benefits it's based on household income...

I see. According to you then, if someone has 10 room mates they legally can use all 10 incomes and qualify for a million dollar mortgage.

The govt doesnt give a shit if you are room mates or boyfriend/girlfriend. You are not married and have no legal ties, what the fuck is so hard to understand about this? Now maybe if you're boyfriend and girlfriend and throwing all your money into the same account that would be a different story, but unless someone is a complete retard they would know better than to do that. You would be renting a room to her, plain and simple. Your income is irrelevant.

The fact that you guys still think Fox news is anything other than a propaganda machine for the religious right is sad. Only brainwashed Christians watch that.

"A household includes all the persons who occupy a housing unit as their usual place of residence. A housing unit is a house, an apartment, a mobile home, a group of rooms, or a single room that is occupied (or if vacant, is intended for occupancy) as separate living quarters. Separate living quarters are those in which the occupants live and eat separately from any other persons in the building and which have direct access from outside the building or through a common hall. The occupants may be a single family, one person living alone, two or more families living together, or any other group of related or unrelated persons who share living arrangements."

U.S. Department of Commerce definition.

Everyone should just wait and see what happens with this thing. It's only first month for fuck's sake, and the web site isn't totally operational yet. Romney care had 100 people sign up in the first month. Obamacare had about 100,000 -- which has made the GOP feel like some kind of victors -- proportionally, that's five times better than the Massachussetts plan started with. After a few years, 98% of MA was insured in some form or another. It could work, if naysayers quit trying to torpedo it in the crib.

To listen to Republicans talk about people losing their coverage, like they actually care about them -- is really funny. Do they know that they look like a bunch of villians when they want to kill a program that could actually help a lot of people?

Do you see Republicans ever trying to actually do something, like get affordable healthcare for the poor and middle class? No, because they're a bunch of assholes who only care about the elites in their little circle. They should actually try being for something, for a change instead of constantly fear mongering, rigging elections and trying to regulate women's coochies.

They probably surveyed the same people Kimmel did on which they preferred, Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act.

I found this line from the article hilarious:

Quote:
A Public Policy Polling survey conducted earlier this year found Fox News was the most trusted television news source in the country.

The same poll, though, found Fox was also the least trusted.

So...you're a smart person. Doesn't that poll tell you that most people are idiots? Fox news is heavily slanted to the right -- and that's OK. Somebody has to do it. But you realize as a news organization they're a joke when it comes to actual journalism? It's onl ya propaganda machine.

If you ever watched MSNBC, which you probably don't because it's heavily liberal -- you'd see they actually have some pretty smart people over there compared to some of the dunces at FoX news, which is filled with blonde news bimbos programmed to be Roger Ailes' mouthpiece. There's no one at MSNBC who is the dunderhead equivalent of Gretchen Carlson, Jenna Lee, Martha MacCallum or Megyn Kelly.

I only say this because it seems like you think a poll of idiots makes FOX news have some kind of credibility.

It's true, at least the intelligent Christians get their news from from MSNBC or at least CNN.

Faux News pulls this shit all the time. Then their credulous dupes blindly repeat it without applying a second of critical thought.

Last month, Hannity had 3 couples on to tell their "Obamacare Horror Stories."

Afterwards, a reporter reached out to them and..
  • Turns out, not a single one of them had even visited their exchange. (shocker, I know)
  • The business owner who allegedly cut staff because of OCare: 1) OCare doesn't apply to his business because he has fewer than 50 employees. 2) When asked "were those cuts due to OCare?", he replied with the classic "I'll call ya back"
  • For the other 2 low-information couples, he found comparable replacement policies on their exchanges that would be 60% lower than their current rates.
  • And there's more!

The full fact-check here.

ps. I know by putting the word "fact-check" in there, that certain credulous dupes will avoid reading the article. Wouldn't want to have their little reality-bubbles disturbed by pesky facts

You'd be amazed, dude. I know a number of otherwise bright people who believe they're fully and accurately informed by Fox. It's fucking mind-boggling. Josef Goebbels would be like "Damn, guys.."

Along those lines, did you know Fox News has a 'no pants' rule for their female hosts? And that their median viewer age is 65?!?! Gotta hold those old white dudes' attention somehow
