Red Light Camera Ticket

Opened my mail today and got a ticket I had no idea I ever got.

After going to the court website I was sent to the "evidence" and there I am blazing through a red left turn.

I was under the impression that LA County had done away with the cameras (which is true) but it turns out certain cities have their own systems.

At least with a manual ticket you have a chance of the officer not showing up - unless Im wrong the photos are pretty hard to fight.

Back to leaving my dealer plates on.

I hope they choke on my $500

Where did you get it? Both my brother and I got tickets like this and neither one of us paid them because it's not a real ticket.

I guess it is "real", but not legally enforceable. We did a lot of research. Hasn't affected my credit and it's been a few years.

Chris, trust me just throw it away. These tickets are not legit UNTIL YOU FUCKING ADMIT IT IS YOU AND YOU RECIEVED THE TICKET. If you read the entire form they sent you they say that if the person in the photo is not you then please provide the name and address of the person who was driving your car. In other words THOSE COCKSUCKERS ARE ASKING YOU TO NARC ON YOUR FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER.

Dont call them, dont mail anything to them. Just throw it away. They cannot prove you even got the notice in the mail. But the moment you respond by calling or mailing something in YOU ARE FUCKED.

I made the mistake of trying to go to court in Beverly Hills but found out I should have never even responded to these cocksuckers. I got two more over the next few years and never responded and never saw anything on my credit report or on my DMV extract.

Chris,

Hit me up on ICQ. I have fought quite a few of these and won every single one.

There are some interesting loopholes.

I got one "obstructing roadway" ticket in the mail which I didn't understand as I never parked at the address they listed and their website had no video/picture evidence. Filled out my response on the form and guess some retired judge or something reviews them. Got a letter back saying dropped, explanation was kinda funny cause basically said since you say this didn't happen it must not have. Funny it was dated April 1st, thought maybe they were just sending out thousands of them on Aprils Fools and if 10% of the people pay em without arguing free money for the fuckers. They keep increasing more and more cameras. My GPS has the tracking for them so it alerts ya as you approach one which is better than craning your neck looking for the bitches.

It's from the court and will turn into a warrant if not paid.

Hit you up - I would love to hear how you beat one. I've beaten weveral speeding tickets by pleading not guilty and the cop not showing up - havent dealt with one of these.

Yeah - I deserve that, but the light was yellow when I entered the intersection so it wasn't intentional.

I know red light tickets are some of the more expensive fines since the injury/crash rate of people running red lights is very high.

Plead not guilty.
Ask for trial and request the tech that reviewed the photo be there to explain the photo.
Don't think he will show up. If he does you lose anyway. Worth a shot.

I received one of those red light camera tickets in Florida earlier this year. I was in the left turn lane following a big transport truck which was making its left turn super slow. I was stuck in the middle of the intersection when the light turned red and then I noticed numerous flashes. Right then I knew I was screwed. About 2 months later I received a letter from the auto rental company stating that it had paid the ticket and it was billing my credit card for the payment of $155 plus a $25 administration fee. If I had been driving my own car I would have fought the ticket. But, since it was an auto rental there was no way I could fight it. Fuck transport trucks!

You're right. It doesn't make any sense. But since I was driving an auto rental I couldn't dispute it. They pay the ticket as soon as they get the notice and then notify the customer later.

If they can't see your face in it, you just say it wasn't you. Say you let other people drive your car all the time and you're not sure who it was. Just make sure you don't wear the same shirt in court thats in the picture, had a buddy do that and he looked like quite the idiot

Fines and penalties are made to keep jerkoffs from blazing through red lights and possibly hurting or killing someone. Understand the logic? Damn cameras.

This is a business despite how they try and sell it. By responding to them either by paying it or appearing in court you are creating a contractual agreement. Same as when you sign a ticket from a revenue officer.

Wow I wonder if that is BS on their part. I never saw that on my tickets.

One thing I did find out is that those camera sensors do not go off if you drive up to the intersection. Stop. And then go through the light. They are triggered by approaching vehicles that are not slowing down when the yellow light is about to go off.

Throw it in the trash. A person must issue such a ticket for it to be enforceable. Don't open the door for a stranger (process server) and you are all set. I've had 5 or 6 in the last 5 years, mainly for minor speeding and never had any repercussions. I've never blown a fully red light.

Possible Defenses
If the images are clear, you can consider mounting the following defense: If no employee from the company that maintains the red light camera device shows up to testify, you should object to the photos being admitted into evidence, saying, “Your Honor, since no one has appeared to authenticate the photographic evidence, I object to such evidence for lack of foundation.” If the photographs are excluded, there is no evidence to convict you. (On the other hand, if the judge allows the photos in evidence over this proper objection, you may later have a basis for an appeal if found guilty.)
If the photos are allowed into evidence but the images are not clear, you can consider challenging the photo’s clarity, arguing that the evidence is not convincing enough to convict you. You should not agree to testify unless you can truthfully say that you were not driving the vehicle at the time the picture was taken.
If you ran the light to avoid a serious accident or harm to others, you should make that argument, and it’s possible that the judge may find that you acted out of “necessity,” which may be reason enough to find you not guilty.
In some states, another possible defense to a red light ticket is that of missing or non-visible posted signs that are supposed to warn of photo enforcement. First read the law carefully to find if your state has laws about such warning signs. If you got the ticket in a state that does have specific rules about where and how such warning signs must be posted, go back to the intersection to investigate whether the signs there comply with the law. If they don’t, and you prove that to the court with photos and diagrams, you have a good chance of beating the ticket.
Quote:
Does your "ticket" have the address of the Court on it? If it doesn't, or if it says "Courtesy Notice - This is Not a Ticket" or (in small print on the back of the page), "Do not contact the court," it's not really a ticket at all - it's a police trick!
LA County specific info on skipping out on red light tickets: http://www.highwayrobbery.net/redlig...DocsContd.html

Oh and for anyone who has not had to brave the traffic in LA County........turning left on red lights is considered a natural right. I have even done it right in front of police officers. Often there is no left turn light so the only way for traffic to move is for a few cars to turn left after the red.
coppied off the site posted above:

From the testimony of a LAPD deputy chief, during the June 7, 2011 meeting of the Los Angeles Police Commission:
"There's no consequence for not paying the ticket on a photo red light [in LA County].
And currently if a percentage rate is paying and the general public understands that there is no consequence, there is a risk that many more will not pay.
We have petitioned/appealed the [Los Angeles County] Superior Court to put teeth into this so that there will be a consequence. But that has met with the answer that they will not support it.

"So there's no consequence [in LA County].
There's no warrant.
This is not in queue when you renew your drivers license.
This is not in queue when you register your car."

Redflex Traffic Systems issues these tickets for Culver City. Those tickets are not mailed out by the Court.

In the past, a valid defense in LA would be to claim that the traffic citation violated your right to due process and your Sixth Amendment right to confront your witness. However, Jerry Brown signed a bill closing the loophole last year.
