Cloaking Affiliate Links - Yea or Nay?

Does Google get a bit pissed off about that then?

if they don't already, they will catch on eventually, just like anything else.

All my links for the past 10 years or so have been cloaked - adult and mainstream, never done me any harm.

When I first started doing it I could see an immediate increase in CTR.

I bet there are loads of surfers avoiding clicking on cookies, do you have any idea of the % increase you had?

That may be true in the past, but I think people are pretty used to seeing ref codes of some kind no matter where they go these days. People who are primed to buy aren't normally tooling around with things like codes and cookies, they just want the goods fast.

I agree with you. Additionally, Google recommends setting sponsor links as nofollow instead of cloaking. There's a thread about Plugrush / cloaking here at gfy...

there is a redirect plugin on wordpress and its fine to use. Check out youtube for Matt Curts video on it. He implied it is a good practice.

A strong argument for using a links redirection script/database (flatfile or otherwise) is to make it infinitely more efficient to maintain the myriad of programs that change links, backends, etc.

Some of use use such a script to also capture click information such as referring url, zone/placement/campaign, and related parameters, which further assist in determining effective placement and conversion tweaking.

If you use a redirection system of any kind, I would certainly recommend adding robots.txt file rule to instruct robots not to follow your redirection file or folder, and I'd also recommend adding a nofollow attribute to the outgoing link.
