New SCHOOL SPEED ZONE cameras in NY are fucking MONEY makers...

These things popped up over summer...

the speed in school zones is from 20-25 mph.... I dont condone speeding by schools but these cameras are fucking crazy.... 1 mph over the limit its a min $50 ticket..

We have those in my country, extra tax is what it is. They don't even put them up near schools or anywhere sensible - but in the middle of some god-forsaken-country road right after a turn. And the minimum fine is like $500 now. Fuckers.

On one hand I think these are horrible. This is nothing more than generating money for the local police. On the hand, when you see someone flying through the school zone at 40mph seconds after you drop your kid off at school, you are fine with them.

I (obviously) had a lead foot at one point. I've mellowed out since then.

this seems like bullshit.. it took a picture of you entering and leaving the intersection while yellow..? suggesting it turned yellow just as you hit the intersection?

These are privately owned cameras and the local government gets a kick back. This is about one thing money.

This is how to fight and win a traffic camera ticket in the U.S.

- Don't be intimidated by the ticket. They are issued by private companies like RedFlex, not the government.
- Do NOT pay the ticket. This is an admission of guilt.
- File an appeal with the court.
- Declare the photo/video evidence as inadmissible, as it violates your 6th Amendment right to confront the witnesses against you.
- Cite the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Melendez-Diaz v. Massachusetts (07-591), which stated that Massachusetts' admission of notarized certificates that were submitted as prima facie evidence violated the petitioner's 6th Amendment right to confront the witnesses against him.
- Cite Crawford v. Washington, 541 U.S. 36, which ruled that a witness' testimony is inadmissible unless the witness appears at trial, or if unavailable, that there was a prior opportunity for cross-examination.
- Demand that all these witnesses appear in court - policeman who issued the ticket, technician who calibrates and maintains the traffic camera and analyst who evaluated the photo evidence or have the evidence declared inadmissible.

The previous claims about this primarily being a money making opportunity for the city or municipality is correct. When you demand three witnesses to appear in court, they lose the financial incentive to pursue the ticket and it gets dismissed.

For real? That is ridiculous. In most countries they have some buffer zone. Usually it is 10 or 20kmh speeding which is not being flashed.
Although on a slow speed school zone it would be lower, but still at least 3 or 5mph should be allowed.

I hate these cameras. There is one near my place flashing whole fucking day and it was set that if you go on yellow ,it will take your photo. But ,every one can go through yellow light in city traffic . It is taking photo 0.5 seconds after traffic light goes yellow so if you are there in that moment, you are fucked. This is just making pressure and tension and raising aggression.

They already forgave millions in tickets cause the cameras were put in over the summer with no school in session.... I do not think there is wiggle room...

They just put those up here in Winnipeg around elementary school zones, 30 km/h limit, which is about 20 mph. People going 10 km over have been getting $200 tickets over the past two weeks.

30km speed limit (20 mph)
40km speed (25 mph) = $200 ticket.

They aren't fucking around here. It will be a huge boost in revenue for the city and it'll save parents the bother of having to teach their kids to cross the street safely.

In some states like California if the driver is not clearly you then you get out of the ticket. I cannot see your fact in that pic so you could perhaps have gotten out of the ticket.

I think in most states you can just ignore the ticket and nothing happens but as soon as you acknowledge the ticket you are fucked.

The cameras are cash cows at first but it drops off once people remember where they are. That's when they move them. It's a fucking racket. Or they drop the speed limit on a street right before putting in a camera. Crooks. Notice the cameras are also often more in mid to higher income areas.

In some EU countries - ticketed is owner of the vehicle. Even if he did not drive (he must give up the one who did in that case if he wants to avoid paying the fine).
