S Korea ferry: Prosecutors seek death penalty for captain
![]() http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-29783538 South Korean prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the captain of the Sewol ferry, which sank in April killing more than 300 people. The prosecutors said Lee Joon-seok, who is charged with homicide, failed to execute his duty. The call came as they concluded their case in a trial which began in June. The sinking sparked nation-wide grief and led to severe criticism of both safety standards and the government's handling of the rescue operation. Many of those who died when the ferry sank were teenagers on a school trip. The disaster was blamed on a combination of illegal redesigns, overloading of cargo and an inexperienced crew member steering the vessel. There was public outrage after survivors testified that they had been told by the crew to stay where they were even as the boat started to sink. Korea is a sick country they eat dog meat and the women hide razor blades in their vaginas.
There is little honor left in this world anymore, and far too much selfishness, greed, and cowardice. It used to be unthinkable that captains would abandon their ships with their passengers in peril, or that cops would brutally murder people for kicks. Your life is going to end in a few short years no matter how you live it. Live it with honor, courage, and dignity. |

Seriously though, as someone in Korea I can tell you everyone supports the death penalty for this guy. I think the last time it was used was like 1987 here. He was a coward piece of shit who was one of the very first ones out, meanwhile he also told everyone to stay in the boat so it would be easier for him to get through the halls and outside. A brave 21 year old cafeteria worker, who was a girl btw, did more to save people and went back in the boat to help people even. She died. Can we also talk about the fact that all the boats that showed up. Didn't allow any divers to go into the boat and try and get people out? Who kept the guys on the boats? You know there had to be at least 5 guys on each Naval vessel very eager and willing to put on a dive suit and get in the water to save some kids. Who kept them on the boat? Stupid old men that is who. In Korea you do whatever the older person says. Even if it is stupid and makes no sense. |

From the deficiencies listed in the article it sounds like their Coast Guard or Navy doesn't have a marine inspection division.

My father was a marine engineer overseeing regional marine inspection and accident investigations for the Coast Guard. He also reviewed and updated inspection policy and standards for the Coast Guard. No way Korea has a clue based on that link.
