Cute, but I think a lot of offended guys are missing the point. When a man walks down the street (with his model strut on, I must say) and gets some unsolicited attention, he does not fear for his own safety and start reaching for the pepper spray in his purse. A man is more often in the position of power and has no fear, but only feels the complimentary part of the attention. He would *probably* only have a fearful reaction if the attention was coming from a larger male or from an obviously psychotic female.

Just my two cents.

i bet that 10 hour girl video made a lot of girls sad that they don't get that kind of attention....not that they want it but it probably made a lot of girls feel insecure about themselves and possibly not attractive enough to get hit on like that. and i am not condoning what those guys did in that video at all...

Is it okay for me to say hello to the people in my building...
Or should I just walk by in the hall or stand there saying nothing at all...
Isn't that a little antisocial and creepy...

Fuck it I'll just look at my smart phone and pretend I'm texting someone...

Most of the time, yes. But ...... when it IS a confrontational asshole, and you're walking with a girl or an elderly person and going somewhere quick it is hard to walk away from sometimes, when they say especially stupid shit, and you're like, "I wish I was alone so I could take a tire iron to your head". The worst actual beat downs I've seen have been groups of teens on one dude. The street assholes never do anything 99.99% of the time, they just try to destroy your quality of life. I do think pitching a few of them off the bridge would get the others to ease up.

I totally agree, but that's not what these videos are about at all. None of the people got physical.

It might blow your mind to hear that you don't have to be pretty to get that kind of attention as a female. Some guys just look for that vulnerable "I don't think I'm pretty enough" attitude and take advantage of the niceness/weakness.

She's right - these people are trying to fuck with people, they're like trolls but in real life. There is a huuuuge difference between looking and following behind someone or saying "hey baby" 10 times. I think women do like to be looked at some of the time, but harassed? No. If you have a life and get pussy, you just don't do that shit.

as a woman is there any kind of approach that is ok for a stranger to make? does the woman have to initiate contact for it to be ok? i've never been one to approach women i don't know but i do know a number of marriages that probably never would of been had they taken that approach. of course they didn't act like the guys in the video but they didn't just stand there waiting for something to happen either.

It's ridiculous that so many men got offended by the woman's video. What does it say about yourself to be angry over a woman recording men being dicks. Just ask yourself that.

Cold approaches barely work even when you're good looking. I always waited for the signal to come over to talk...and that is just a certain look that only has to last for a half second.

I don't think that's an ordinary situation. You have a bunch of black guys -- who happen to be the race known for hitting on every girl they see, plus a girl with wide hips and a big ass. Exactly what black guys like. It's like putting too much butane on the grill....there's going to a giant fire. Put her in another neighborhood and it's a good chance they'd have nothing interesting to report.

How about let her make some eye contact first? The original girl's video clearly showed she never made eye contact or made any response or come-on to any of the men: nothing to attract their attention, and nothing to reward their attention. Also, her hands were full and she was pretty much power walking with her best "RBF" on. That's "resting bitch face". This is a woman who is not looking for contact.

In contrast, the male model's video was of him doing his best swagger strut down the sidewalk. He was giving off fairly obvious body language signals.

if you think the majority of the guys in that video with the female walking were threatening, you need to look up the definition in the dictionary.

Ofcourse they were saying stuff because she got their attention with those nice curves in her skin tight jeans. But 99% of guys were just saying friendly, unthreatening or funny stuff. The only one who was creepy was the guy silently walking next to her for 5 minutes. And he probably thought 'when i just walk along, maybe we can make eye contact, and then get a convo going' - that's actually how some guys think who don't really know what they're doing. It's tame and non threatening.

Walk as a woman in countries like egypt and tunis, those guys are frustrated, intimidating and a threat to women. Or dress and walk like that through shithole ghettos here in NL where there are muslims, they say 'hello' and if a woman ignores them she gets friendly 'dirty cancerwhore' curse words.

What you saw in that clip was fucking civilized compared to alot of other places. It was a whiny feminist trainwreck of a propaganda piece.

Exactly. years ago I was in the dog park and a girl came running in for help because some guys were following her in their car and hitting on her and when she ignored them they became really aggressive and verbally violent and swearing at her. She was really shaken and it was pretty scary.

Yes, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. The girl has three options:
A) ignore, which can result in abuse like you mentioned. Hopefully it doesn't and he lets her walk away unchallenged.
B) tell them to fuck off, which can result in escalation of the situation on both sides.
C) be polite and ask them to leave her alone, which can result in two adults going their own peaceful ways OR he gets offended and escalates the situation.

You don't have to be a bra-burner to see the world from another point of view once in a while.

D) be feminist and make a scandal to try to ashame the guy that is lonely in a big city, not self confident, probably sad and who tries to get a date... then redirect him to feminist crap like the video of this woman who walks in NYC and that gets "harassed".

I wonder why these feminists are not already the target of some guys going postal....

staggering that some men think treating some woman like a piece of meat 'lucky' enough to get some attention from them might be endearing.

I'm far from any kind of captain save a ho but lol, really? People think that original video is mostly ok? It's not *all* bad, but 70% or more of that original video had me cringing in embarrassment on the guys' behalfs.

Like another poster said in the other thread.....some of those guys were greeters for the stores. They stand there trying to reel people in. Regardless I agree with you. These guys in the video are doing the exact opposite of what they need to do in order to attract a woman. Acting like that drives women away and makes them fearful.

Agreed 100%. I am also FAR from captain save a hoe and even I find their behavior disgusting (and some even threatening).
So I am not sure what kind of person can see that as an acceptable behavior. I can see someone who has 0 people skills and zero socializing skills may think that was ok...
It definitely NOT how you pick up ladies from the street (assuming they are doing that wishing to meet/pick up a chck)

This is such a load of shit.

Whenever an attractive girl is pissed off at me (despite that fact that I am completely honest about not wanting to be exclusive) I get socially attacked by her circle of friends who often try to get white knights involved.

Submissive men need to get their heads out of their ass and stop supporting an emotionally manipulative female agenda.

yeah, those men aren't complete fucking dicks on the original video, I'm just 'submissive'

I don't do relationships, and am 100% up front about that, every time, and multiple times. So far, 100% of the women who are 'yeah that's fine I just want a fuck buddy too' end up not wanting to be just fuck buddies, and I get the same shit from her friends that you get. That doesn't prevent me from seeing what assholes most of those guys were/are on the video though.

This is exactly why an edited 10 hour of video from a major city should not be part of a debate on how men behave.
If you see her as anything other than an opportunistic attention whore I would say you are submitting to her agenda.

I must be missing something, I wasn't aware anyone thought this was how 'men behaved' in general.

I don't think that the majority of men behave as portrayed in that video, but what I can't wrap my head around is the sheer amount of men who think that behaviour is ok. Which now thinking about it, must mean the majority of gfy posters *do* behave like that, or would do if they had the chance to.

and ftr, yeah it's clickbait viral whoring, obviously. But pretty eye-opening to see all the 'the men did absolutely nothing wrong' views.

I still don't think that what MOST of the guys did in the video was creepy or threatening?

I'm surprised many people do.

I don't think people think it creepy/threatening, or even harrassment like the 'fact' they are trying to portray (aside from the guy walking alongside her) - it's just completely dickish. Like, today they're job was to try not to act like a cunt, and the majority in the video failed miserably.

Submissive men need to get their heads out of their ass and stop supporting an emotionally manipulative female agenda.
That is not what the video is about, either. We are talking about random strangers approaching a person walking down the street without any friends or other people involved.

I guess I should feel oh so privileged that men feel I'm attractive enough to catcall when I'm wearing regular clothes and walking through a public place. Knowing that most men would be happy to have sex with any female, regardless of clothing or attractiveness, shouldn't take away from the complimentary nature of their actions, I guess. I guess I should be walking down the street saying "thank you, sir' and "yes, thank you very much sir, have a great day, sir" and "thank you for noticing me, sir" as I go.

alrighty then.

HI Elli,

I agree with much of what you say in general but on this I will have to disagree.

Apart from that one guy following her I didn't see harassment. Saying 'hello' or 'good day' - and obviously meaning 'i think you're sexy' is not threatening or harassing in my opinion.

They also did not 'approach' the woman as you said. Most stayed where they were as she walked by.

As one poster pointed out above, women who don't get attention from men (even attention like this) are depressed they don't.

Now think about this from another angle. What if all the guys in the video who said, 'hello beautiful' were rich, successful, good-looking famous men? Men who dressed in an upstanding way and looked 'dashing' and white knight like? How would women's reactions be then?

Ok, let's assume all of the comments were compliments. If they are truly compliments, then it would be good form of her to reply to each and thank the person. Is she supposed to ignore the compliments and continue on with her day? Or is she supposed to respond to each and every one? If this behaviour is truly meant as a compliment, then ignoring them makes her a complete bitch.

When men do this "complimenting" from the sidelines, what is the appropriate response?

There is A LOT that goes into this psychologically.

Two men say 'hello beautiful.'

Both feel a sexual attraction towards her. One sees her as a piece of meat and the other a human being. Hard to separate that.

Women also 'want' attention. Sexual attention too. Or else they wouldn't dress they way they do. They don't want it from people who see them as objects or want physical contact without permission etc... But they do want to be seen as desirable.

Then there are varying degrees as to how much each woman wants. Some women want people to look and that's it. Within JUST THAT behavior some want discreet looks and some want blatant stares. Some want guys to offer phone numbers.

But back to your question. I don't think she needed to answer anyone because she was walking fast without making eye contact. If she walked into the store and the clerk said hello beautiful then she should say hello and move on to whatever business she wants with the store. If the clerk continues on this point without getting any positive feedback from her he should stop or else he is harassing her.

So many fine lines, many different opinions of harassment even among women.
