Anybody interested in filing a class action lawsuit against Moniker?
I know I'm not the only one these guys have screwed over. I'm considering filing a lawsuit for lost domains and domains they refuse to release. (see sig)
If anybody else would care to discuss this, please post here or PM me. |

I started transferring domains out in September as they expire. The first domain I moved out expired 7 days before I put in the transfer request. I was told at that time I had a 30 day window to manage my domains and the system allowed me to unlock and make the transfer. However, the supervisor I spoke with today told me that the window fluctuates between 5 and 10 days and that "30 days to manage" really means 30 days to renew....Which of course I will not be doing with them. I've been trying to call since last Thursday because of this. Today I finally got a rep on the phone and after 26 minutes, she caved in and transferred me to a supervisor. Shortly after that call, he credited me $8.99 so I could renew the domain and complete the transfer. However, even though I just received an email from them telling me the domain was renewed and even though it's showing renewed in their system, I'm still getting this message: "The domain is in the so called "Expire auction" phase. The modify for this domain has been deactivated. The domain can be reactivated by renewing." I remember the nightmares many of us dealt with when enom went to shit 10 years ago. This issue with Moniker is even worse. At least enom processed the transfers quickly and never lost a single domain of mine. So that's my (current) issue but the problems have been many and ongoing for a few years now. As you can see from some of the other comments, I'm clearly not alone. |

they are a piece of crap for sure and seem to be full of holes as people are having more and more valuable domains stolen from them. i've wasted hours and hours with their bullshit, waiting on hold, etc. i've never had problems with any registrar like i did with moniker since their 'upgrade'. submit a complaint to icann, maybe they'll lose their accreditation if enough people complain.

I moved the 1 domain I had left with them last week.
They finally pissed me off. Little shit mainly. First registrar that I have had that had no way to expedite the transfer out. Had to wait 5 days from the transfer out request and when it took place. . |

If we end up losing any I'll join you. It's been a full time job slowly and carefully moving all our domains away. refused transfers, incorrect auth codes multiple time on same domains. fucking scary

I had a bunch of domains recently expire because Moniker keeps deleting my saved payment info. One of them was an old paysite that still had a few rebilling members

Like I previously mentioned, their system has updated and shows the domain is current an expires a year from today but I still can't change the admin contact for the new registrar to verify and resend the authorization to. I've never filed a complaint with icann but now that you mention it, I should at least look into that option. |

This sort of catastrophe has happened to every registrar at one time or another. Eventually registrars get acquired by bigger companies that don't have the same expertise as the original owners and they completely fuck shit up.

You guys have known about the Moniker clusterfuck since June 1st. Why did you wait so long to start transferring out?
All the domains I wanted were transferred out of Moniker. Although I had a really shitty customer experience, I didn't suffer any losses that would qualify for participating in a class action. Good riddance to Moniker and good luck to the rest of you still doing business with them.

A couple of months ago they started declining my payments because my billing address was different than the business address I had on file for my whois info. At that time, they didn't have an option for separate addresses and they told me I had to use my billing address for whois. According to the following, they now changed that. Either way, their system is fucked and there will be more problems from this.
____________ Effective December 1, 2014, Moniker will update its credit card processing procedures. This requires all clients opting to facilitate payment by credit card to verify the billing address of the card on file. You can update your account information in the left-hand navigation pane while logged into your account. Under the User Profile menu, please select User Profile > Billing Address. If your billing address is different from your physical address listed for the account, simply uncheck the box labeled ?Use customer data as billing address.? After completing the form, be sure to save the information by clicking ?Save?. |

If you don't remember, why should I?
Moving services of any kind is something that I and many others simply put off. It took me a couple of years to leave Sprint after they bought Nextel. It took me a couple of years to switch from AT&T to Verizon. And it took me about 5 years to finally leave BofA. Sometimes it's more of a hassle to move than deal with the headaches....Or at least it seems that way. Eventually, enough is enough though. |

whats crazy is after 20 years of domains it is still like the wild wild west, people can still steal your domains and get away with it, and registers are not held responsible for losses, etc.
You mean they can't tell where the domain went? It can't be tracked? This can't be the case otherwise no one would invest in super premium domains if they knew they can lose them by accident or temporarily stolen. It sounds like you let a domain expire and once it dropped it was taken, as far as payment can't you call their customer service department and just give them your cc info over the phone, and get a confirmation number too? Also it seems like trouble when a company is in a transition of changing their system to try and move domains. Also if a domain is expired no register will let you transfer or push the domain. Never heard of a grace period for this, the grace period is before the expired domain goes into the redemption period, I think 45 days?

That is certainly the case with Godaddy. Never tried to transfer out of another registrar but sounds logical.

It's obvious that Moniker is intentionally not forwarding the authorization requests. As of this morning, I'm still seeing a message telling me my domain is in auction status even though it's not. |

At one time godaddy would allow you to push expired domains to another godaddy account, and the new account holder would be responsible for payment. This was great because it gave you more time to sell the domain, of course you would let the new buyer know the situation.

You probably don't even have any traffic / premium domain names... why not just let them expire and start fresh with a free NAME.blogspot.com site ?

pre-load money via paypal when you absolutely have to pay them. if you keep a balance, you'll be safe but dump them asap.
