Sugarhill Gang rapper Big Bank Hank -- born Henry Jackson -- has reportedly died at age 57, according to TMZ.

Jackson was reportedly suffering from cancer and passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The Bronx-born rapper was one of hip-hop's first pioneers as one third of the Sugarhill Gang, whose international hit "Rapper's Delight" became the first rap single to crack the Billboard Hot 100 top 40. It was also one of the first rap singles, period, and as such had an immense influence on the nascent genre.

Less than one month ago, "Rapper's Delight" celebrated the 35th anniversary of its debut on the Billboard charts.

I loved them when I was a kid.... The one black kid we had in my school had a boom box before any of us and on our 7th grade class trip he played this song for us and we were all amazed....

Man, so many good young childhood memories of The Sugarhill Gang. It seems like yesterday I was playing my boom box and writing down all of the lyrics down for Rappers Delight. Start stop, start stop, etc...I was so proud I memorized all 15min or whatever and yes, it was one of my go to songs to sing at Karaoke.
