In Russia the New Year / Christmas holidays least from December 31st to January 11th. It's like an additional 12 day winter vacation for a whole country

Nope. The orthodox Christmas is being celebrated on January 7th. So December 25th is a regular working day here.

Yes of course. It's a paid vacation. In fact the government just recently decreased it. A few years ago it was 14 days. I mean two fees the whole country just didn't work.

With Russian life expectancy you got to party hard, like there wouldn't be tomorrow.

Or maybe it is the partying that causes the issue. When in other countries they lift the alcohol prices, Putin did very recently demand maximum price for alcohol, so that every Russian can afford to get blasted (or that they don't use more deadly home made stuff).

Actually that's only for the Russian Orthodox church. The Greek Orthodox church celebrates Christmas on December 25th.

So how it is additional 12 days if it is just 12 days total? Unless you had no days off during that period in previous years which would be hard to believe.

I wonder if his military or PPP (Putin Propaganda Patrol) participation qualifies him for it. Maybe both if he gets an extra 12 days.

Additional means: in addition to their paid yearly vacations.

Do you mean police, FSB, army, emergency etc? Yes, those "slaves" work during New Year holidays too. That's why they have twice longer paid yearly vacations

It's growing pretty fast. What's wrong with that?

In 2013 it was 71 years. In Moscow area today it's 75.8. It's much higher than during a whole Soviet era

No problem about the growing part. Although with just men, the story is different. Babushkas live a tad longer.

"Overall, a quarter of Russian men die before reaching 55, compared with 7% of men in the UK and about 10% in the United States. The life expectancy for men in Russia is 64 years, placing it among the lowest 50 countries in the world in that category."

Hey, we got mentioned too.

"The rate of men dying prematurely in Russia is totally out of line with the rest of Europe," he said. "There's also a heavy drinking culture in Finland and Poland but they still have nothing like Russia's risk of death."

Sure, as in any other country it's different: 71,7 for men and 75,9 for woman (I gave you a link to the recent stats in my post above).

BTW what's the average life expectancy for a regular Finnish alcoholic?

The country which officially celebrates Christmas since 301 A.D. FYI: The Julian calendar has not relation to the USSR. BTW, what's about Polish and Jerusalem Orthodox Churches? They also use the Julian calendar.

Julian calendar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well, if you don't know it yet; besides being one of our most important business partner, etc., Russia is also our most potential enemy. Sharing the same border is the key element in both. In other directions there are Sweden, Norway and Estonia. Attack from their direction is quite "academic".

Russia on the other hand, well.. maybe this coat of arms from one of our eastern region tells it. The right hand is Russian hand.

Never said it does. My point is that, even during the communist era, the Russian church still had a lot of influence.

No offense please, but a fly is not an enemy for an elephant. Russia has got about 4K of tactical nukes for all those mentioned neighbors. In fact, only the USA and China are a potential enemies for Russia, but not some Finland, Mongolia or Norway. So according to the Russian military doctrine, there will be no need to say "hands up" or anything else.

What's about now? For example, Polish Orthodox Church has adopted Julian calendar just recently (in 2014).

I said that Russia is potential enemy for us, not the other way around. Although Russia did use Finnish speaking soldiers in previous wars; so there were folks who could say hands up in Finnish, but they weren't used to that, instead they told how wonderful the Soviet Union was and "Come to here."
