What is the best 300mm lens for a safari trip with a Canon EOS 700D camera? Which one should I buy?

But if I was only going to be using it for this 1 trip I would rent it from a place like borrow lenses or similar.

Yep.

Another option would be to pick up a 70-200 f2.8 and the Canon EF Extender II. That will give you a 140-400mm f5.6 solution for a fraction of the cost of buying the 300 f2.8

So far I like this option the best. That is more in my budget-league. Thanks AaronM!
