Bulletproof Coffee

Anyone try or still drink Bulletproof Coffee or a variation?

Tried it today for the first time....used 2 Tbs of Grass Fed Butter and 2 Tbs of Coconut Oil instead of MCT.

I have to say, its one of the best cups of coffee Ive ever had.

I've been doing it for a couple months. I use Kerrygold grassfed butter (1tbsp) with Coconut oil. Like you, I prefer it to MCT. It tastes so sweet.

macadamia nut oil is a good sub for the coconut oil sometimes...it's full of monounsaturated fat, as opposed to saturated which is what Cononut oil is made up of mostly.

I was doing it for a while... Didn't really notice any change in the caffeine effect, eventually got tired of the procedure (I drink my coffee black).

For anyone that wants to substitute the butter, you can replace it with avocado.

What is the logic in putting so much saturated fat into coffee? Love to heard the explanation. ALL saturated fat is bad for you. Maybe grass fed butter and coconut oil is better than other alternatives as it contains added benefits. However, the saturated fat in both is high and should be completely avoided.

Oh really? So every cardiovascular doctor I know and all the major health organizations must be lying. This is another unhealthy fad that will pass with time.

Coconut oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Many health organizations advise against the consumption of coconut oil due to its high levels of saturated fat, including the United States Food and Drug Administration,[2] World Health Organization,[3] International College of Nutrition,[4] the United States Department of Health and Human Services,[5] American Dietetic Association,[6] American Heart Association,[7] British National Health Service,[8] and Dietitians of Canada.[9]

Coconut oil contains a large proportion of lauric acid, a saturated fat that raises total blood cholesterol levels by increasing both the amount of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.[31] Although this may create a more favorable total blood cholesterol profile, this does not exclude the possibility that persistent consumption of coconut oil may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease through other mechanisms, particularly via the marked increase on blood cholesterol by lauric acid.[31] Because the majority of saturated fat in coconut oil is lauric acid,[31] coconut oil may be preferred over partially hydrogenated vegetable oil when solid fats are used in the diet.[32]

I've been doing high fat coffee for a few months, and my cholesterol numbers have been going down. But in addition to the coconut oil I've been drinking a little olive oil and macadamia nut oil too (monounsaturated fat).

The medical industry has been wrong about fat and it's effect on cholesterol for years. I just had a doctor tell me recently that he thinks diet has less to do with your cholesterol than previously thought. It's going to take a while, but I think the rest of the world will get the memo that fat is not the enemy. But still, all things in moderation.

How do we explain my high cholesterol, although I eat lots of vegetables and I'm in good shape? I think my number is my number. If I had a choice between being the 300 lb guy with good cholesterol numbers, and a fit guy with "high" numbers -- I'll choose to be the fit guy.

latest research points to high fat not being linked to cardiovascular disease and having benefits.

that said, moderation is the key. as always.

You do realize there is a huge difference between different types of fats right? You think the fat in oilve oil is as good for you as the fat in coconut oil?

You see? Now you're showing how uneducated you are about fats. Bail from this conversation.

i think the fat in an avocado is as good for me as olive oil. and it's loaded with saturated fats. i eat em out of the skin with a fucking spoon! the homegrown ones are beyond mind-blowing, the neighbor grows em, it's quite the ordeal too, only gets ~20 avocados a season and we all negotiate for as many as possible!

About a month ago I visited a friend for the weekend and she introduced me to Bulletproof Coffee. She was kind enough to make me a cup each morning. After the first cup I'd had enough. On the second day I didn't want to insult her so I drank another.

Definitely not a fan of the stuff.
