If you're referring to the glass roofing - I'd say it's to help keep leaves and other crap outta the water.

A screened-in porch, I'm assuming that is what you refer to. It keeps debris out of the pool, etc...

It’s a screen enclosure; they are very popular in Florida and very necessary.
Without it you would be eaten alive from mosquitos and other insects and also be cleaning your pool on a daily basis.

I wonder if that is if you're not close to water. I lived two miles from ocean in Fort Lauderdale and 30 feet from the Gulf in Indian Shores. Did not need screen for either of my pools. Seen plenty of them inland though.

Near the beach you don't need screens for house or pool. Inland it keeps out bugs, leaves and alligators.

If you are close to the ocean then the breeze will usually keep the bugs away. Anywhere else your pool is useless after dark due to mosquitoes.

Yup, and that right there is just one of the many reasons I left florida. Its also nice being able to stand on a lawn, in a garden, hell, on the sidewalk and not get eaten alive by fire ants.

Commonly known as a lanai aka screened enclosure. It is to stop anything that you don't want to find in it out. lol
It is not just found around homes inland as I live close to beach and know many on the water who have enclosures around their pool or patio.
It is a good thing trust me!

I don't think it protects from that unless the kid is playing on top of the screen enclosure. Then we have a different problem ;P

In Florida they don't just screen in the porch, they often screen in the entire back yard.
