dell xps 13 or xps 15?
I am trying to decide between the dell laptop xps 13 and xps 15. my main worry is the size. the xps 13 is really small while the xps 15 is bigger than my current 15.6 laptop. i like the 13 for portability but am unsure if i will regret the smaller screen. has anyone used both of these?

Don't ever buy a Dell. Their support is awful! In the last year I've had 6 issues on 3 products. I have next business day on-site complete care for my XPS 15 - only took 7 weeks to resolve my keyboard issue! A week to replace a hard disk on another NBD computer. No stock for HDD nor keyboard. Really? That is how they don't have to do on-site; it says "..availability of parts..". They seem to never have them! Three weeks for a keyboard for my Venue 11. I've been sold products that are incompatible and others with incorrect specifications. Dell used to be great...

I've had the XPS 13,
3 HD failures in 1 year later I would say stay away from Dell That said if you want to go with Dell, The 13 is good for travel, as a daily the screen is too small and becomes a pain. |

I had a Dell latitude laptop back in 06 which was a work horse...couldn't break the thing if you tried. Fast forward to 2012, I bought an Alienware M15x...huge disappointment. 2 GPU's, 2 Fans, 1 MB, and 1 FULL replacement later I had a laptop that worked. After receiving the full replacement I put it on ebay then bought myself a Macbook Pro. Id stay as far away from Dell as possible. What is your budget and your hardware requirements?

I have 2 dell laptops right now. Only 1 has an issue and its an over heating thing when Making MP4 videos. Turn off a couple processors and it works fine and still fast as hell.

yeah, that is my situation. i have my main workstation. the latop would be for doing smaller things after work hours, when away from home, etc. also for plugging it into my tv to watch movies and stuff.

Only 13 inch if you plan to move it out of your room at least once a week.
If you move it daily - only only only only 13 inch. If you move it once a month - 15 inch. It is ridiculous how much more convenient is 13 inch (lighter, takes less space) for portability. 13 is sweet spot. |

lenovo 12,5 x-series are great for portability and affordable, and yes anything above 13" is pain in the ass to carry arround, of course a 2nd 24" attached makes life easier at home and costs 100$ plus
if im not wrong, their warranty works everywhere in the world , u got a lenovo u can bring it to any lenovo service and theres a lenovo store in every shithole, at least in europe no need to send it to china and wait 6 weeks to get it back |

I had a 15 XPS 5 years ago. I never bought any dell since then. The mother board crashed 2 times...not to mention i had to wait 2 weeks for support. I moved to ASUS...have the same laptop since almost 4 years now. If you use the computer every day...i recommend 15.6 or even 17....

anyone have any opinions on the zenbook 303LB? Has i7, 12 gigs of ram and 512 ssd. its another 13.3 inch screen laptop. not sure if i'd regret getting that but hauling a 15.6 to bed, upstairs, downstairs, etc seems like it might be a pain.

I've had 3 dell laptops and never had a issue with them. I just got a Dell Inspiron 15.6" with a i7 last Nov and I love it. I normally always go with 17" but this one I hooked it up to a 23" LED and have a keyboard and mouse. Maybe you could go with the 13" for portability and hook up a LED at home.

I just bought the fully specced out xps 13. Be aware the xps 13 is actually an 11in laptop with a 13in sized screen that has basically no bezel. Which is fucking awesome and also why I bought it because I wanted an 11in laptop (it's 11.9 wide) not a 13in laptop
But his is primarily for traveling to replace my old 11in travel laptop, not a primary work laptop at all

3 hard drive failures in a year? Obviously Dell is using substandard drives.

I love Dell!
I have personally had the Latitude X1, the Latitude D630, don't remember the model name of it but I bought the first flippable laptop with a stylus pen. Great machines, all of them! I have only good things to say about the Next Business Day repair, used it four times over the years. Call in today, next day there will be a guy knocking my door, ready to work until my computer runs smooth again. As Head of an IT department I have also bought several hundreds of OptiPlex desktop machines, and over a three year period not have a single one of hundreds of them, accross three different countries, break down or give any hardware related issues. An impressive track record, considering the environment these machines were used in daily. I have deployed several dozens of Dell servers and all in all very happy with those too. Notably with all of the above is that the Latitude series as well as the OptiPlex machines are all made for the corporate world. Easy to handle and great durability. Even for my own personal use, I would only ever buy these. Customer service on the business side is totally different than from what people have described here. Dell Consumer products though, is a totally different thing. I wouldn't touch a consumer computer with a stick, even if I got paid to do it. Those tend to be pure crap, no matter the producer. Do not buy an XPS or the Inspiron, since those are consumer products. Do not buy shit from Asus and other similar companies geared towards a "home-user-market". Buy a real machine, built to work. Pay a little extra up front, but it will last forever and you will not regret it!

If I were to buy a new laptop PC right now, I would look at and compare the Dell Latitude 5000 and 7000 series:
Business Laptops - The Best Business Laptops With Windows 7 | Dell and then I would probably buy a version of the 13" 2-in-1 7000 series, but I would look and compare a bit back and forth. If I were to buy a Mac, I would buy the Macbook Air, again. And as always when buying laptop, I would buy a second power cord already from the start. One on my desk/office and one in my bag, I hate having to unplug it and fold it whenever I would leave home/office.

I bought a Surface Pro 3. It's going to be smaller, but I love it because it's both a tablet and a PC. I do everything on it - movies, books, work stuff..... Surfing. Awesome. Nice and small for travel too.

Without boring you with the details, I had Dell desktops and laptops from the late 90's through the late aughts and I would never buy another Dell computer.

i got a 13.3 laptop. Regular 15.6 is too big to be portable imo. But i find the 13.3 inch screen a bit small.... so my next one will be 14 inch. Think that will be perfect, still portable size but screen large enough.

Dells writes to WD and is like: "hey, please sell us all your substandard drives!" This has nothing to do with you not knowing how to operate hard drives or take care of your file system. You fucking retard. |

And how can operator error cause 3 drives to fail on a laptop? I don't think I could wreck a hard drive on purpose if I wanted to by "not taking care of the file system", unless I was physically trying to destroy it. You don't think a company will try to save a few bucks by using cheaper hardware? Obviously they never purposely sourced bad drives. They did probably source the cheapest ones they could get to increase profits. I'm sure this guy was a complete retard and didn't know how to operate hard drives or to care for his file systems. 13 out of 46 drives failed. Dell XPS 11 Hard Drive Failures - General Hardware - Laptop - Dell Community Or maybe Dell was using substandard drives?

I've had a xps 15z for about 4 years now and it's still running good. Picture quality on this thing is phenomenal and just all around a quality laptop. I don't use it for work though.

I've had my xps 15z for almost 4 years now, never had an issue. It's getting a bit slow and the battery isn't good these days but it still works. It is time for a new laptop for me in the next couple months but I'm going Macbook.
Still recommend the 15, I just want to align my phone, tablet and laptop. |
