Does anybody go to the chiropractor?

I have never been. Does anyone reccommend it?

I can recommend it since I used to have issues with my neck. It was quite scary for me, but chances are you will feel better.
Even if you are feeling totally fine, some fixing here and there is always a good idea.

I never have gone, but my brother goes about once a month. He has a bad back and will go in to get an adjustment and says it makes him feel like a new person. He's tried a lot of other things (physical therapy, different types of exercise etc) and none of them work like 30 minutes on the chiropractor table.

Thanks ya that is what I'm worried about, i have read people have alot adverse effects so I'm not 100% sure of going just yet. I want to try other things first I think.

I have heard people say good things... but read bad things... so i am not sure.

Yes I do and I fully recommend it. Its NOT a total cure, but her puts me back into alignment which lasts for 3 or 4 months.

I started with a really bad problem that barely bothers me anymore and I now go just 4 times a year... I used to go weekly at first then monthly... Now its just to keep it in check.

So glad I did it. Its not an instant fix but a process, yet a rewarding one at that.

Ya hmmmmm, this is the thing i hear from alot of people the benefit. That's why it is so weird that when you go to read suddenly you hear of people having a lot of problems.

I'm in the middle because i do need to be re-aligned technically. I just do not want to have adverse effects.

Had a bad accident on my motorcycle in 2004. It was a major help in my recovery. I was lucky I found a really good guy.

Been having neck issues flaring up the past few days and I wish I was where he is now.

If something goes wrong, it could be real bad so be careful.

Chiro's are better than doctors imo.

They actually aim to fix the core of the problem, rather than give you drugs to hide the pain and send you away.

similar to finding a good doctor really. a good chiro will correct what needs to be and will give you follow up exercise/movements to help improve. it may take a couple of visits but he will get you there. a bad one will do some corrections and have you come back every month for life...

i think the follow up exercise is the most important part though. bone structure is held best with support from muscle.

IMO the main problem is people treat chiropractors as a cure when really prevention from regular attendance is they key.

I had never been until 12 months ago when i felt discomfort after starting heavy training. I felt better after the first session then started going every month. the better i felt and the harder i could train the further out i spaced my appointments. i now go every 3 months as i'm not going to wait for an injury to happen that can potentially never be fixed!

I've been several times to a known chiropractor who charges a lot. It's for my neck, which always feels cramped, sore and in a knot. It's great, I leave feeling like I was reborn in a new body, but the effect only last a few weeks. I find that it's only a temporary solution, not a permanent one. The sessions only last 5 minutes though. He softly massages for 30 seconds, then cracks my neck, my should and my neck. 50 dollars a session.

Is it the type of deal where you find you HAVE TO go? As in does your pain come back and worst and you are forced to contiually go?

I already do yoga which has helped a ton. But I for sure have a longterm reccurring injury where i have never felt 100% for years.

I find even a good thai/sports massage last limited time also. And you need to go back.

I dont need a quick fix but i do not want to do any longterm damage of sorts.

Not at all.

I had a bad neck before the accident (phone and computer work with out a headset and doing things the "right way" etc) and I was usually in some sort of mild to medium pain, so much so, you think pain is normal.

Once the pain is gone, you do notice it more when it comes back even though the pain is less than you have it previously as you now know what it feels like to be pain free (or have minimal pain).

Great, thanks for the input. Appreciated.

That describes me perfectly the pain has become normal to me... it has progressively got better since working out more, doing yoga etc. but i still feel like i have that "knotted" pain all starting from 1 area.

Ive had a few neck/back issues over the years. Most recently this spring, at the phoenix forum actually, it was so bad I was getting tension headaches and I would have to go lay down and sleep for a bit.

Got home and went 4 times, twice the first week, once a week after and I have been good to go since.

Before that, I threw my back out lifting, could barely walk. Went 4 times and was good to go.

I always thought they were a scam until I visited one.

Every doctor I have ever gone to for any reason has sent me home with pills.

Some will say "take these for 5 days, if the problem not gone, come back blah blah blah"
(and EVERYTIME they slide some Tylenols in there "for the pain" or other bullshit anti inflammatory drug, without even asking me)

Chiro's I've seen, have given me exercises and adjustments and seem to really NOT WANT TO see me again (want to send me packing with a real cure, and not a cover up bullshit that hospitals/docs usually give)

Chiros =

If your back or neck hurt and you need an adjustment, it is aa major relief. Don't let people steer you away from it. It is beneficial if you get aa decent doc.

You get used to it. Well sort of. I've been going for chiro treatments off and on for 20 years or more, and still to this day when he gives my head a twist to either side the 'crunch' astounds me.

Right now I go once a week. Soon that will drop to twice a month. During really bad times I've gone as many as 3 times a week, sometimes for months straight. But my back is a mess. For general wear and tear and low level pain they'll probably treat you 1 or 2 times a week and then drop it down from there.

People who are mostly healthy who are active and just want to maintain their 'alignment' go as little as once a month. Sounds like that might be you. Just find a chiro that's right for you. Some are great, some are morons, like every other profession. But go see one definitely. Trust me that pain you say is creeping up on you will keep on creeping, and over time you'll be putting up with pain that would cripple most people... because you get used to it.

I wouldn't wish that kind of chronic back pain on anyone.

I find the best combination is to have an adjustment, then also have a deep tissue massage to work out the rest of the knots/kinks. After that, drink LOTS of water so you don't cramp up the next day.

Never been to a chiropractor, but have done acupuncture. I had issues with my back, but in order to reduce the pain to do the physical therapy we did acupuncture. I HIGHLY recommend it!

I've been to about a half dozen chiropractors over the years - and the last one...will be the last. Instead of diagnosing what turned out to be classic symptoms of a sciatic nerve problem...the chiro kept insisting he could fix it (read: he could milk the benefit payments I was paying him...$50/visit).

Subsequently, the problem had to be corrected surgically - and I lost 7 months of work. Had the chiro been honest and said, "It's a sciatic nerve issue - go to your GP and get an MRI scan done" - my lost time would've been shortened to only a few months.

I've always found chiropractors to be somewhat shady (even the supposedly good and reputable ones) - as far as milking the treatment sessions. Relief tends to be temporary, no matter how many appointments you go for.

It has to go hand in hand with stretching fully and regularly. Anyone that has anything shitty to say about a chiropractor has never seen xrays of how incredibly out of alignment peoples hips, back, neck etc can be and have no real understanding of the permanent damage that can occur if neglected.

Or the permanent damage that can occur if too much chiro is done.

Just go for the Thai Massage, with or without happy ending. Once i couldn't walk cause of back pain. They massaged only my feet for an hour and i could walk away.

To the chirpractor i only went after a sex incident where i twisted my vertebrae. I found that out 3 days later when i couldn't walk anymore. (didn't hurt though)
She stretched me and clicked everything back in place.

What kind of neck problems do you guys have?

I have one where if it gets too cold around my shoulders, head becomes tilted to one side and I can hardly move my head without a lot of pain. It only gets triggered if I happen to get too much cold in that area and air conditioning can trigger it too. Thankfully it doesn't happen often but I haven't had any treatment about it....

A good friend of mine is a physical therapist, and has said that a notable number of his clients are people that got messed up by chiro.

I knew a guy who had something like that, but a bit more severe. He was captain on a boat, and the wheelhouse AC unit was right behind the wheel blowing on his neck. I don't remember all the details exactly, but it was serious enough that he was hospitalized for several weeks as a result.

I go to the chiro. Although my chiro is excellent and helps a lot, I think that he also prescribes much more sessions than needed. I started going twice a week for 8 weeks than weekly than bi weekly for the rest of my life. I stopped with his program and go when I feel like it. And he always tries to push green products as well as some weird allergy tests to find out what is best to eat for my body... I guess he has a decent cross sale incentive

I actually did mine at Kaiser. I am allergic to most pain killers, and this helped better then i could have imagined.

I used to have to go 3X a week after a car accident a long while back...definitely helped.
When I was consistently getting migraines {thankfully, they stopped cold about 4 years ago...whew!}, but I would go to a chiropractor for those and it'd help a fair amount...
{My remedy for no more migraines is NOTHING I would recommend, though...}
