FACT: We no longer need fossil fuels:

The entire earth RIGHT NOW could be powered by solar batteries. The sun has enough power to light up the planet.

If you:
A) drive a car with gas
B) drive a car with gas
C) drive a car with gas still

You hate animals and the environment because you're mad at the world for being fat.

Fossil fuels are 100% not needed anymore and we can make COMPLETELY EVERYTHING out of natural substances.

you do know that fossil fuel is a natural substance? You also know that petroleum is used for more than just automobile fuel?

you are leaving out 1 detail- massive forests need to be chopped down to collect that solar energy. just the empty spaces alone are not enough.

WRONG. Data shows it is 99.9% used for fossil fuels.

It is not natural it is a chemical.

WRONG. The sun is unlimited power. We should be using it to its full extent.

none of what i posted disagrees with this. solar panel efficiency currently (get it, currently) leaves a lot to be desired, ~ %20 collection efficiency, that requires huge swaths of land if it's going to replace fossil fuels, and battery storage is also not efficient enough.

WRONG AGAIN. Solar power is cheap and effective plus the best thing for the environment.

I would love to know how this solar battery will power a airliner next time you want to go on vacation.

Electric cars is the way, the problem is can we really replace all cars with electric cars. One major factor is lithium, we need loads of it for the car batteries. do we have enough lithium, what about extracting it, how is this affecting the environment?

I think that the major factor slowing down the adoption of electric cars is the availability of lithium. If we are to move to all EV cars how many years we will have before lithium runs out? There are sugestions that current reserves in the world will be enough for 300+ years at current levels, but if we actually replace all cars the demand will be a lot higher so those reserves will be gone in like 20 years, we need to start extracting lithium from asteroids very soon then.

The truth is we really need major advances in batteries and ability to extract all kind of resources from asteroids

Easy solution. Just mine for more lithium then. It cant be THAT hard.

lithium mining is to mining what fracking is to oil drilling.

and don't forget all the nickel and cobalt those batteries need!

the obvious solution is compressed air and water mist...compressed air by itself has the inherent weakness that it heats up but if you introduce a fine water mist then you capitalize on its ability to absorb heat...

the less efficient version with air only was made in india in 2008 it has a range of 125miles and a refill costs you 2$ (compressor at home) in electric power the refill takes 4h

as for lithium:

Pollution Caused By Building a Hybrid Car - HowStuffWorks

In recent years, rare earth metals like lithium have been imported almost exclusively from China, which was able to lower its prices enough to monopolize the industry [source: Strickland]. One of the reasons China could sell lithium so cheaply was because it widely ignored environmental safeguards during the mining process. In the Bayan Obo region of China, for example, miners removed topsoil and extracted the gold-flecked metals using acids that entered the groundwater, destroying nearby agricultural land.

The term "Fossil Fuel' was a marketing tactic perpetrated by Rockefeller when he founded Standard Oil to make oil seem finite and scarce, in order to drive the price up.
Oil is abundant and constantly produced by the core of the earth.

They will screw you every which way and upside down ...and you'll like it

it's silly to believe there were enough dinosaurs squished together to shit 50 trillion barrels of oil.

Infrastructure, distribution, rare earth metals, inefficiencies in collection and conversion of spectral irradiance, inefficiencies in batteries, recycling, calculation of net energy gain. Those are just some of the issues we are slowly overcoming with diligence and research. We will be there if the angry-asses among us don't destroy our fragile supply chain in the next 20 years.

People or companies that cut down trees to install Solar Panels sometimes have the wrong idea.

If you're a home owner and you have trees around your house, those trees block sunlight from hitting your house help keeping it cool, requiring less energy to cool your house. When the leaves fall in the fall, the light they now let through help heat your home, so less energy is required to heat it. Both reasons help to passively use solar energy to reduce your cost.

A good solar system can offset more CO2 than is absorbed by a tree. In fact, the office can be as high as 102:1 according to this report in New England Clean Energy.

I would never want to cut down trees to give my panels more light if I could help it, but if I had to, I would make sure that I planted new baby trees in its place, and then plant a few more trees in a few other places too, just because.

Exciting? No. Interesting, definitely not. Boring actually. Any motorehead can go fast using brute force power. These guys are basically using (and wasting) a shitload of energy to push the car down the track. Tens of thousands of controlled explosions to turn a couple of wheels, where most of the energy emitted through waste pipes? YAWN!!!

What's a lot more exciting is using brains, science and efficient use of energy to obtain the same speed. Sure there's no roar or fireworks, but it's not any bit less interesting or exciting.

It's too bad you can't see all the science and thinking that goes into top fuel.

Just as importantly, a top fuel car only burns about 4 gallons of nitromethane per pass.

there's only one way NASA launches rockets that go to the moon and soon to mars and that's with brute force from RP-1 powered rocket engines.

RP-1 is fancy kerosene.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Fuel the "typical run" consumes 12 gallons, not 4, plus another 22.75 gallons just to warm up. No worries though, Top Fuel Dragsters are all about speed, not fuel efficiency.

There's no doubt that a lot of thinking goes into making this cars as fast as possible. It's just that to me, its boring.

For example, according to this wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Fuel, a Top Fuel Dragster generates 150db of sound, enough to cause pain and ear damage. All of this sound is actually wasted energy. I know people love the sound, but that item aside, if the energy used to create the sound could be put into the wheels, you would get more speed, and less wasted energy.

I didn't know this before, but some of the white flame it spits out of their exhaust is hydrogen. That's pretty neat. If they could use this wasted energy to drive the car even faster, then I might start being interested...

Not trying to harsh your buzz. As you know for me, it's just all about the science. I would love to see an electric car beat an top fuel dragster one day. I don't think its far off.

Nikola Tesla showed the way, but apparently it would have been bad for business.

Kinda of a big difference.

Today there are alternatives to making cars go faster and faster using less and less energy, because there are lots of ways to transfer energy to wheels, and then to momentum.

When it comes to launching rockets, you have no road to grip and no wheels to grip it with. You have to get a bazillion pounds of stuff to overcome gravity and do it quickly. I see no way to do this with electricity, though anti-gravity magnito/quantum Awesomedrives would be nice.

i'm sure you mean "you're". you missed that while looking down your nose.

besides, i am very much right on point. if you think there's enough free space to replace fossil fuels with solar panels, well, i guess then i do understand your snarky misspelled drive-by insult attempt.

it's still brute force from a petroleum fueled rocket engine. which is my point, we would not have space travel or top fuel racing if not for fossil fuels.

I have to agree

People forget that we have legs that can be used to mobilize ourselves

Do you see at airports, those escalator things, people get on those and just stop.... just because they dont have to walk anymore, it's ridiculous how fat fucked lazy shitty people are

it's not only the lazy factor of those moments, it's lazy of life.

Those people are lazy to move, but usually tend to be lazy at other things, things they are passionate about, mentality like "fuckit, i'm lazy, dont need to do this or that. stand up for my rights, etc"

Son, you are as amusing as you are ignorant, very! I'm not disputing that your ass IS a fragile supply chain, broken down from constant use, and the air you hear whistling is your wide open, widely sold, well oiled colon.
