How to talk to a Liberal

Find a point of agreement i.e., ??Oh! You??re for gun control! So am I! I think it??s extremely important for gun owners to know how to control their weapons. ??

Talk to them like adults. Many progressive ideas are based on kindergarten reasoning like: ??Everyone should have a nice house, let??s buy everyone a nice house!? ??You don??t want a baby? That??s okay, we??ll just make the baby go away.? ??The president is like our teacher, he just wants the best for all the kids.? But remember, they are grown human beings.

Invoke Thomas Jefferson (the founder of the democrat party). ??My favorite democrat was Thomas Jefferson who said, ??The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as they are injurious to others.???

Bring them back to Reason. Inevitably the Progressive will turn to the realm of Feelings. Gently persuade them to look at the argument reasonably: ??I would feel better too if every child in America had three hot meals a day and a warm place to sleep every night, but rationally, is that possible??

Reverse the argument. Most progressives see themselves as altruistic. Ask, ??How much of your paycheck should go to people in need?? ??50%? Great! So you would have no problem writing a check for your favorite charity for half your wages on payday!?

Muh roads! I concede this point (although I think privatization is a good idea). ??I??ll give you government control of the roads, you give me deregulation of the free market system and no involvement in foreign wars.?

Avoid derogatory terms. We all know they are statists and libtards, but they really don??t like those names.

How much is enough? The progressive only sees the answer to this as ??more.? Stay on point, ??How much should a teacher make? A lunch lady? A janitor? How about an administrator? How about a member of the Board of Education?? Show them that more taxes do not equate to better service.

Lead them gently in the way of voluntary participation. Show them that rich people are not the beasts they perceive. Explain that the wealthiest people are the greatest philanthropists, and the greatest statists are the least.

Smoke a joint. If all else fails, and you live in Colorado or Washington, fire up a spliff and forget your differences. Elsewhere, beer also works.

Here's how you talk to conservatives:

Tell them some people are gay and they should just get used to it.

Then maybe ask them why they're so against marijuana if they love personal freedom so much...author of that article notwithstanding.

Or why they only care about the welfare of child as long as they're not outside the womb.

Maybe you could gently explain to them that trickle down economics has never worked and it's time to stop making it the bread and butter directive of the party.

you fuckers act like you have the answers for everything, but you just create messes (and wars) that democratic administrations have to clean up. You're always fucking wrong, pretty much all the time.

Here in Canada with liberals in charge...we can't afford to buy 4 joints.

Those monies go to the syrian refugees.

Please provide your source that conservatives make it "...the bread and butter directive of the party." Since you say it is "the bread and butter directive" this should be easy for you. I'm assuming by conservatives you actually mean Republican Party since there is no "Conservative Party". So let's see that "directive", or anything close, and your source please. Thanks.

liberal
ˈlib(ə)rəl/Submit
adjective
1.
open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values.

This would have applied to everyone on here just a few years ago ,willing to embrace the internet and sell porn. The good news is everything changes so conservatives are always going to be grumpy.

In US politics, we no longer can identify with the parties as they have twisted themselves into illogical knots. Example: "We are against abortions on religious grounds. Drone strikes and the death sentence are ok though." "We need to tax corporations more even though we know they can flee the country for tax havens and thus pay zero."

Both sides see no need to make sense. So now we are picking at the core beliefs. Conservatives are against individual freedom so condemn Liberalism. They aren't really against it but they don't know the real meaning so it is "bad." Liberals are against individual responsibility, not really but again we don't read much so we have no clue.

Welcome to the new American politics.

Heads up, you're hardly a harbinger of common sense. And all you do here is divide yourself from gfyers in an elitist manner. Except for when you're clamoring for us to vote for you.

So get the police to regulate who can own a gun.

??The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as they are injurious to others.???
Which includes gun ownership and healthcare. Add to that teaching, retirement, care for the elderly, etc.

Quote:
??How much of your paycheck should go to people in need?? ??50%? Great! So you would have no problem writing a check for your favorite charity for half your wages on payday!?
Instead of writing a check to an insurance company, you could give half as much to the Government to cover everyone. And lower other insurance bills.

Quote:
??I??ll give you government control of the roads, you give me deregulation of the free market system and no involvement in foreign wars.?
Would the private sector stand for fewer wars?

Quote:
??How much should a teacher make? A lunch lady? A janitor? How about an administrator? How about a member of the Board of Education??
Show them how much teachers pay in the private section cost and how much private education costs parents.

Your theory works great for the 0.05%. Even the 1% are having problems keeping up. Why do you think roads are better run by the Government. And hospitals, schools, pensions, care for the sick and infirm is best in the hands of the private sector?

Whatever is the truth, the money big business spends to buy politicians their seats. You can bet you will get the Government they want you to have.

Tell them the Presidents black, and the next one will be a woman. That's sure to upset them.

The reason trickle down doesn't work in the US and does work in the EU. Is the very rich pay a lot of taxes in the EU.

50 years ago trickle down was based on manufacturing being in the First World, the 1% decided to shift it to the Third World. Now China is a World Power and a threat both militarily and financially. All those manufacturing jobs the 1% created have gone. The promised replacement jobs are selling the cheap imported crap in a store.

When anyone in the porn business starts sticking up for the ultra right, you know he has a problem.

Given the Right's Agenda. Porn would be banned.

Would the Right allow us to marry anyone we like, smoke drugs, run a country on so little tax revenue, we know it won't allow anyone to stop selling guns to assholes. It's all in favour of that.

You ask for Liberalism and claim to be a Conservative.

Are you willing to pay more for a Private police, justice, prisons, border control, education, security, healthcare (well that one's a yes), firemen, ambulances, street lighting, business regulators, sanitary, and a whole lot more of the services that we all take for granted?

Are you willing to lose the Net Neutrality? Unless you believe the Right Wing wouldn't break that given the chance.

You are missing it Paul, I do not in any way claim to be conservative

And a flat tax does not create less revenue, in fact with the elimination of bullshit loopholes, and a simpler tax code it would create more. (like no you can't write off the private plane you took to Fiji to fuck your secretary undisturbed)

Among the left sided policies I could get behind are free healthcare are opposed to the Insurance company protection act, as well as free college.

All this as well as police, military, etc could be maintained with a true balanced budget, but special interest on both sides have long ago made that impossible.

It is much better to say fuck it and blame the other side for obstructing things like we do now

Say the flat tax is 10%. 10% of what? The devil is in that detail. 10% of gross sales? OF income? define income. Sounds like you want it of your gross sales. That tends to crush businesses with growth but no profit. Which is one of the keys to our success.

It still does apply to all of us on GFY that are actually IN the porn business (not many of us left here).

But a lot of people are what I call "faux-liberals"

For instance, try introducing a new idea that isn't approved by the Democrat Party to bronco67 or crockett or **********.

You'll soon see how close-minded and unable to change they truly are.
"Liberals" are some of the most hateful and vitriolic people unless you agree with everything they say.

And if you read what those guys write on GFY...they are like some kind of robots that don't question anything the govt. says or does. And if a Democrat says something, well then it's a FACT and anyone who disagrees will get called a ton of disparaging names.

This new brand of "Liberalism" is nothing like the true liberals of the 1960's and 1970's.
Those guys didn't trust the govt. at all. And definitely didn't want anything to do with the govt. taking their money and spending it on wars.

The new guys? They seem to think that taxing people (the govt. TAKING your money) is the answer to everything.

And if you try to point out that the people in the ruling class of govt. are getting filthy rich and so are their cronies...well, you'll just get a reply full of bitterness and hatefulness.

I think you are seeing this as one sided. I am sure they could make the same points for conservatives. Most political discussion is just sounds bites. We wait for the other guy to stop so we can talk versus listen or read what they actually said.

Just to clarify, the current stance of the Democratic party on taxes - 60+% of the budget is fixed. 40% of which the major part is defense. No one can cut defense and get re-elected. So cutting the last 20% in any meaningful way to reduce the deficit is not really going to happen so we have to raise taxes. The rich are taxed at a low rate by historical standards. Thus they are in the cross hairs.

Now if you read what I wrote, you will see that it is based on logical conclusions. Not scary screaming. You might not agree but then you have a chance to come up with another solution. That is how it should work imo.

Oh definitely. The whole religion thing used to be the Democrat party back in the day.
The Republicans grabbed it when Reagan ran for office.

But during the 1960's and 1970's when I was a kid all my family were Democrats. And so was the rest of the South up until Reagan campaigned and took it for the Republicans by using the so-called "Moral Majority".

Conservative used to mean spending money wisely and not wasting it. Small govt., less taxes on people.
All the "Jesus" b.s. over the last 3 decades has changed the meaning of "Conservative" just as much as the word "Liberal" has been hijacked.

Conservative used to stand for NorthEastern U.S. "Rockefeller Republicans". Southerners HATED Republicans. They stood for the elite, rich, well dressed, and social snobs.

10% of Net Income, this is "personal income taxes" corporations are another animal all together, and 10% would actually be too low, but it is an easy number to work with.

And it would be on all income, probably about 20% would do nicely, Wages and Salary, Corporate profits, Capital Gains.

Simple math says 20% tax on all income combined with an actual 10% cut in spending (not the typical cut down on the rate we are increasing)

I am also not opposed to "The Donalds" one time wealth tax on billionaires going straight into the National debt, although I doubt it would eliminate it it would take a very healthy bite out of it and skyrocket the USD value

The flat tax is much harder on the working poor then the wealthy as written. Maybe that is ok.
The detail thing is the hard part. Do you deduct education? Private planes? You still have to define income and deductions. That is where all the hanky panky is. Off shore earnings? Etc.

Isn't there a cutoff point on income in the flat tax idea? Where people who make less than a certain amount would pay no tax?

Honestly, I'm thinking that ALL income tax needs to go. Replace it with a sales tax and stop penalizing people for working and trying to make money.

National sales tax would be a much fairer tax on everyone. No tax on food or utilities or housing. But everything else.

That way, people who get paid in cash under the table (waitresses, strippers, escorts, drug dealers, people selling shit at the flea market, bands, etc.) would pay tax when they use that money to buy something.

And the wealthy buy much more expensive things than people with less money so they would pay more taxes.

I'm starting to think that would be the way to go.

It was littered with libtard. Who's the kindergartener? Kindergarteners also always think they're right and see the world in black and white. They're also sore losers. Shall I go on?

How about the truth: both parties are right about 50% of the time. When one is wrong, the other is usually right.

When are y'all gonna figure it out the Democrats and The Republicans are the same people.

They are in a very real sense one very large corporation whose goal is to make themselves more powerful over time and if that means ignoring the constitution or redefining the meaning of the words "Shall not be infringed" then so be it.

They pretend to be giving you a choice but no matter which choice you make you are still empowering the corporation.

Look at the anamoly called Donald Trump had he been a part of the corporation he would be long gone, the Republican Party clearly doesnt want him, but they cant withold funds or play money games with his campaign because he is entirely self financed...It's throwing a wrench into the works of the corporation I hope and pray that his popularity is the result of people finally "getting it"

Whether he makes it to election day or not the best case scenarion is that people wake up and start seeing the democrats and the republicans, not as adversaries but as the co-conspirators they are and their real adversary is us.

Do you think that estate taxes and capital gain taxes and such are fair and that the govt. has a right to tax you when you die?
