I believe that WWIII is inevitable. Especially now when there is so many nukes in the World and so many reasons to press the button. Humans always did everything to destroy themselves. This is in our nature.

30 minutes, my little friend. Both Russia and the USA need about 30 minutes to annihilate a whole life on this planet. If nuclear weapon won't be used (which is totally impossible IMHO) the situation could be a bit different: Legendary US Army Commander Says Russia Would "Annihilate" US In Head-To-Head Battle | Zero Hedge, In a War With Russia NATO Doesn't Stand a Chance, Pentagon Fears It?s Not Ready for a War With Putin - The Daily Beast, Pentagon Thinks U.S. Would Lose to Russia in a Fight (War), etc...
P.S. Course the GFY sofa war experts like Muad'Di know the situation much better than some clueless kids like General Raymond Odierno

besides, from your link: Could we probably beat the Russians today [in a sustained battle]? Sure, but it would take everything we had,? one defense official said. ?What we are saying is that we are not as ready as we want to be.? |

Let's be realistic for a moment, if nukes were flying, they would quickly get disabled by aliens, alien government would take over with mass reeducation and a new religion, our current leaders would be transported to intergalactic criminal courts and punished severely, it would be a new brighter era for humanity

One of the articles says Russia is as toothless to attack a Western European country as the US is to attack Russia. It says that Russia's military is constituted to defend Russia's borders against attack and that America's is set up to defend itself from a nuclear attack, since absolutely no country on the planet could even think about getting their boots on American ground. It took the US two full years to prepare to land forces at Normandy and attack what it knew were weakened Nazi forces. And when it dropped atomic bombs on Japan it did so for one reason, to attack and defeat Japan on its home turf would have cost an estimated 1 million American soldiers lives. There are idiots who think the US with its massive military budget and might can just show up anywhere in the world and kick some ass, you can thank Hollywood for that. It's no embarrassment to the US that it can't, it's just reality. A conventional war between Russia and the US fought in the Middle East would be a bloodbath for both sides.

As an addition to the previous post. NATO is only planning to increase its airborne up to 40,000. Still not enough, because it will be just a bit more than a half of Russian regular airborne forces (40,000 vs 72,000), and it's only 4/3 of Russian Spetsnaz forces (I would not compare Spetsnaz efficiency with regular NATO airborne though...)

According to one intelligence site, the recent arrival of Russian S-400 missiles in Syria has resulted in a suspension of bombing missions by the US and Turkey. Another article states that the Russians have eliminated every Turkish site and vehicle in Syria.

If there was an all out nuclear war USA vs Russia, America wins.
That's because when its over and anyone left goes to help ... well no ones helping the Ruskis are they. The only hope you would have is that America gets back on its feet, and then they would help you, strange.. but it would be the American way. |

As a veteran of Army service in Germany during the Cold War - I was stationed at Freedom's Frontier from 1979 to 1982 - I just cannot understand any important reason why the United States and Russia cannot be allies today. All of the ideological reasons for antagonism are gone. With their combined force working together, the world could be transformed in incredible ways for the good and for the peace and security of the world. We did it once before in the war against Fascism and we should do it again, with a free Russia. On these pages, there is endless speculation about World War III and a nuclear exchange between Russia and the US. Can anyone think of one honorable, arguable, decent reason why there should or must be any kind of hostility?

There are many reasons why not. E.g. the economical ones. But the most important reason is their imperial ambitions. Both countries think they are the special ones and they have a mission. That sounds childish, but that's the real problem + all those Cold War fear reminds.
