German Tuner Replaces BMW i8′s Hybrid System with 800-HP V8

Now this is a "hybrid" I'd drive! Fuck 3 cylinder engines! Although for the price it should have 1,200 HP not 800.

Quote:
The BMW i8 is a car that strikes a rare harmony. On one hand, it?s a hybrid three-cylinder runabout that sips fuel as daintily as a cup of hot tea. On the other, it?s a 357-horsepower, corner-carving supercar. By all accounts it?s a wonderful balance, but one company wants to make it a bit less?shall we say, friendly.

That company is Gabura Racing Technologies, which is based in Munich, Germany. Earlier this year Gabura took delivery of a brand new BMW i8 and decided it didn?t need that hybrid technology anymore, or that turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. What it really needed, in their opinion, was a sledgehammer of a V8. Now it?s got one, and a powerful one at that.

Revealed at the 2015 Professional MotorSport World Expo in Cologne, Germany, this is Gabura?s V8i, which houses a BMW 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 nicked from the current BMW M6. In standard tune, that engine emits a cracking 560 horsepower. Under the hood of Gabura?s transformed BMW i8, the engine is alleged to generate 800 horsepower, courtesy of some Alpina tuning.

In an interview with Pistonheads at the expo, chief technologies officer Andras Pecsenye said although the project is still under development, the company plans to build these cars for customers on an individual basis. The outlet put a price of £560,000 on the V8i, or around $845,000.

Pecsenye continued, ?We?re also planning a full racecar version too, though you can expect the price of that model to break through the ?1 million mark.? Gabura has divulged few other details about its racy BMW i8 conversion, but when the cars are finished you can bet they?ll have sequential gearbox mounted in them?the company builds sequential transmissions.
