what do you mean?
my point is 1) he's destroying the validity of science and 2) he's doing that by not even being scientific- he's completely clueless to his surroundings, a scientist is supposed to be keenly aware of his surroundings, at least that environment/surrounding which he's trying to be scientific about. but as he shows in that clip, he gets that wrong, like he always does. most folk's view on abortion has little to do with their understanding of the science about it and everything to do with their personal belief structure. he completely misses that. bill nye the science guy acting frustrated about his perception that people lack knowledge while trying to goad and chide them because he thinks they aren't smart about conception and if only they would listen to him smacks of disconnected elitism and that's a big problem for science. his personal political views have nothing to do with science. and his condescending attitude towards those he thinks are ignorant make that much much worse. i'd have less probs with the guy if his name was "bill nye the bowtie guy". |

The idea that we give so much credibility to one man is amazing. But since he represents many peoples opinion on various topics we love to stand up and say, "look he's agreeing with me so it must be true" - isn't the best way to move forward.
1998 he was on PBS Kids doing science stuff and teaching kids - now he's looked at as the source of all for adults.

I mean, he is someone with an opinion, just like you and me. Why should he not be allowed to express it?
How is he doing that? Ok, but that wasn't really the point of what he said. What surroundings? He's a guy sitting on an empty stage voicing his opinion. Bill Nye is not a scientist. Quote:
What has he been wrong on in the past? (I'm not saying he's never wrong, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head). Quote:
Take me for example: I personally think that it is better for a woman to have an abortion if she wants one. Then again, legally, when does a person become a person? When he is born? Or at 8 months? or 6 months? or 3 months? No insult meant to anyone, but it is a really interesting question. When are you, you? If you end a baby's life when they are born, is it murder? Yes. Is it still murder at 8 months? at 6 months? 3 months? 3 weeks? You could argue that a person becomes a person when their brains begin to form. To me that would make sense, but then there is the word "potential". If a person is not a person at say 2 weeks, are they not a "potential" person? And if they are a potential person, does that mean an abortion is murder of a potential person? I really think that perhaps this question is one of those questions that is impossible to answer. Quote:
In this case you might be right. But if you hear him talk on Climate Change, he seems to be pretty knowledgable. Quote:

But now, I love his look. He totally owns his look, and makes bowties and science cool.
