Hateful Eight

Saw the film last night. Brilliant and kept me enthralled the whole way through.

Definitely a departure from the usual QT style. This was more drama and intrigue than blood and guts. Why some think it's slow is beyond me. Maybe they should stick to the Marvel and other Comic character movies.

i watched it already 3 times, interesting to see what is going on when you discover the plot, and watch stuff before it and so on so much to see and enjoy.

i watched it last night as well. I liked it. Even though some may think it's slow, this one was actually better constructed than his other movies where he deliberatly put in long, boring convos just to make the impact of the action/twist at the end of the scene higher. It started to become a gimmick.

Here the convos were perfect, not unnecessary long or boring. Good amount of twists/surprises. Kept me interested all the way to the end

Yeah he has a tendency to do that in all his movies but didn't do it with this one, thank god. I think all his other films can be trimmed down by at lest 45 mins. I liked it, good story.

not a bad flick but certainly not well worth the money. if you've seen reservoir dogs, you've seen a much much much better version of this movie. the uncomfortable dialogue was only there to set-up the gratuitous and ridiculous violence. the black dick monologue to wit. there is no story here at all, just 8 people flipping out and going postal on each other, no moral message, no redeeming value. she couldn't wipe the blood off her face for the entire last act of the movie. no reason, just didn't. that's qt

I'm meaning to see it. The trailer didn't impress me that much, but I don't put much weight on that.

I saw the roadshow 70mm version with full intermission, and what an experience! Definitely wiggled its way into my top 3 QT films! Dialogue was great, tension was spot on.

The best description I can say is it's very much like Reservoir Dogs with a Django theme.

Top 3:

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Inglourious Basterds
3. Hateful Eight / Reservoir Dogs

I agree. I was a little disappointed. During the entire movie I felt like I was always waiting for something to happen. All they did was just kill each other. Some parts of the movie were even cringe worthy.

The drama was in who would kill who and when. It was a "Who done it" something to make the audience think and follow. More like a play in a theatre than his previous movies. QT deliberately stepped away from his previous styles, like Bowie he adapts and grows.

I am never impressed by a trailer for a Tarantino movie. But I always end up watching and loving the movie.

Same with Spielberg.

Trailer = Meh

Movie = Damn that was good.

A Tarantino script is basically listening to himself talking--- and he like to hear himself talk.

Comparing qt to David Bowie exclaiming he adapts and grows, jtfc

Hes made 5 vengeance movies. The last one a redux of the first one.

Difference being Bowie was an original. QT admits and or openly pilfers from world cinema.

Too few situations there, compared with tarantino's high standards, but I enjoyed it more than The Revenant for sure.

It depends on what you like. If you want non-stop action that's easy to follow, it's not for you. If you like a tense drama of a who done it. It's good. All the time I'm trying to work out who's the bad guy and what will happen next.

It's not for those who like Marvel and transformers style action.

I am a Huge fan of Tarantino but this disappointed me Big Time. Half of the negative experience was because of I've seen it in the cinema with shitty popcorn on shitty chairs... sitting for 180+ minutes..
You can't compare this to Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction..

Lol. They were all bad guys. Its in the title, hateful 8. Put 8 fighting roosters in a cage and watch them kill each other is this movie. And that has nothing to do with the transformers movies.

If you want and like seeing peoples heads shot off in slomotion with skull bits and gristle going everywhere then watch transformers, wait, I mean this movie.

Agreed. The movie could have been shortened up a bit but that's the way it goes with QT movies. Not in the same league as Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction. Still a good movie though.

The only movies with something to say was the big short and spotlight. Star wars was a joke (esp. the bad guys), and the revenant, just watch the 2 action scenes, one at start and one with bear, and that's enough, rest of the movie it is boring propaganda.

Jeeeesus, what can I say? Overblown, contrived, tired, crass, hammy lazy acting, Kurt Russell miscast, Samuel L Jackson doing a forced rerun of his great Pulp Fiction monologue ... what a mess ...

Almost bored me to tears. You could tell right from the start that it was going to be long and drawn out, when it took the Samuel L. Jackson character almost 20 minutes to get in the stagecoach.

Here is an example of the dialogue in the movie:

"Now, I want to come on over here, yes right there, now mosey on over there and leave your guns by the rocks.... yes, right there... slowly, I mean really slow... by slowly I mean don't go to fast.... now, come on over here, yes here, two steps... okay that's enough, not too close now... I said not too close... now let me look at you, stand still, okay, put your hands up, up I mean high, yes high... "

And you got about 3 hours of that.

I don't think he stepped away from his style at all with this movie. I think he embraced it in it's totality and made most pointless, overcooked, over-talked, movies ever.

I don't get reviews that say it was a "who done it." Who did what? They were all guilty, so where is the mystery element?

So much pointless dialogue. I can't believe people actually take this for witty or smart or whatever. The western justice dialogue, oh man, so fucking pointless. At the end, when the woman makes her case/offer to the Chris Mannix character, fuck it seemed to drag on forever.

Total bullshit.

Always enjoy the dialogue in his films... also Kevin Smith is one of my favorites.
