Canadian cop gets 6 years for attempted murder

This needs to start happening more often. This was a clear case where the kid should have been tased. Even if you don't agree with that part and don't mind the fact he was shot 3 times, there was no reason whatsoever he needed to plug another 6 shots into him when he lied motionless on the ground with 3 bullets already in him. Although an attempted murder charge certainly seems strange for someone that was successfully murdered.

Const. James Forcillo sentenced to 6 years in streetcar shooting death of Sammy Yatim - Toronto - CBC News

I would guess that it would have been argued that the death was the result of the first 3 shots, so murder would have been off the table. The fact that he was more than likely still alive when he fired the second volley, the act of that second volley was the intent to kill him, even though the first volley was already the death sentence.

Attempted murder was just an easier charge to have stick and leave less room for the defence.

I had forgotten the best part of that video. At around 87 seconds into the video they finally decide to tase him after he had already been shot 9 times. Lol!

And after it's all said and done all the drugged up idiot kid had to do was drop the fucking knife when he was ordered at gunpoint to do so. He'd still be alive and the cop wouldn't be headed to prison.

The cop went overboard with the trigger, no question now that all the facts of the case were revealed, but let's not forget where the ultimate blame lies.

How does he get attempted murder when the kid died? I see he was found not guilty on 2nd degree murder. Is attempted murder the equivalent as manslaughter or something?

Is the 6 years actual time served, or will he be out in 3?

Shot at 9 times... 65% accuracy rate in combat situations not including the cover he had. Also he was still alive with knife in hand but fairly safe to say the 21 ft rule did not apply at that time since he had been shot... What is the 21 ft rule you ask? LMGTFY

Sounds good. Just make sure you're standing still on a train 15 feet away so I'm not in any danger like this cop was. I'll tase you while you're standing still and you'll hit the floor.

The cop got what he deserved.

I remember the day I first saw that video three years ago - and thought it was purely excessive force and abuse of authority.

Yes, the kid initiated events that started this in motion...and for that he's partially to blame. But the cop was clearly unable to restrain himself from blowing the kid away.

The cop will serve a year or two in protective custody in club fed. Then get out - claim PTSD...and file for benefits.
