Living in an apartment is stupid and Tax Breaks for landlords SUCK

It really sucks and I think they're robbing me because several other fools around here are paying low basement rates like they're a refugee
Here I am paying six bills every month like clockwork and I didn't think that was bad for a relatively new unit in a not horrible area .. right

But then here I am paying more than everyone else, apparently
What, because I'm white and male, I suppose

Apparently this property has some sort of tax break type of thing going on called section 42
I just thought it was a thing where they got a couple tax bennies for keeping their rents within a few points of market average for the area or something like that
But there's motherfuckers around here keep saying that they pay 150 they pay 200 as if what are we, we're over here in some Section8 type of hell, is that what it is?

These are pretty decent apartments over here, I can't believe people are paying 150 and 200
Hell one lady with huge nipples told me her 3bd split level costs her $240
$240 !!!!

So at least I know why it's so fucking loud at all times around here and why there's an inordinate level of oddballs running around everywhere

Living in an apartment is really stupid. Fuck I'd rather be in a nice hotel room. Well for the same cost of 600 it wouldn't be NICE it'd be decent maybe
Hahhaha

These fucking tax break things are sure are one hell of a fucking crazy thing. Crazy.
I don't know how the hell who the hell would want to go section 42 as a property owner
I guess they get some long term tax breaks in exchange for renting out many of the units at huge discounts
But I don't even think they get the difference back from stolen government money like section 8 owners would

This whole thing seems funny to me
Funny as in like when you have fish you left out and you're getting suspicious of your bitches

I'm with you.. $600 isn't shit to pay for rent and do you really want to be broke to be able to get your place for $200? If you can afford the $600 quit your bitching and be happy that you have a decent place. I'd never want to be on food stamps and getting a place for $200

Yeah! I think they all get those too because I always see them with car loads of groceries

Believe it or not 600 buys a decent apartment in a wasteland area like this
I'm so far out in the middle of nowhere it's as if I'm walking through a television program from the sixties
One of those science fiction film series type things
You can pretty much live for nothing around here

You are confusing the programs. Section 42 has a limit on the rent that is tied to a tax break. Section 8 is where your neighbors are getting the cheap rent. The landlord is charging everyone the same or pretty close. It is how it is paid and by who that is bothering you.

in new york you could find a room for that money

if you're low to mid income, you could apply for city's housing projects. cheap to below average prices, that's how some do it.

Guaranteed rent payments sounds good until you end up with a renter like this.

This whole complex is a section 42 property
I wouldn't have moved in if anything around was section 8 because that's never a good idea

I thought that everyone was paying about what I am because of the tax breaks. The $600 unit should be renting for $800 - or so I thought
I was thinking $600 WAS the reduced price!! I had no IDEA that some people were paying even less than that !

With section 8 everyone just piles into free rooms and houses and destroys everything and causes issues for something entertaining

I definitely made sure that this property isnt section 8
I guess this means these are nearly as heavily subsidized
There's no WAY the property owner is operating these properties at rents that low and I think it's a LARGE percentage of the units with these severe rent breaks

I thought for $6,000 he might have a gripe but. . .

I moved into a 5,000sf house last year. Can't wait to get out. So much upkeep. Apartments are so easy - just pay the rent and everything else is taken care of. Well, maybe not for "6 bills"!

That's a total rip off!!! I agree with how about you trying to look for some city's housing projects. Might probably a better option for you than apartments.

Having rented to Section 8 people myself, I have mixed feelings on this.

Like most scenarios, some bad apples spoil it for everyone. Not all Section 8s are like this.

Though I certainly wouldn't rent them a high-priced property in mint condition. Even if I do allow section 8s into some of my 'affordable housing' I'd be extra careful and check on them often.

After living in huge houses for years I finally said fuck it and started renting. I'm right at the beach $2,200 a month and everything is taken care of. Renting cut down on my stress a lot and I feel more a part of the community

The cost of housing is just insane. I remember being twenty-five and thinking to myself I would never be able to afford a house.

There is a new trend popping up where people are installing smaller houses in their back yards and renting them out. This seems to be common in the San Diego area. Combined with the small house movement and shipping container homes, this will become a lot more common.

Speaking of shipping container homes.... Check this bad boy out:

Prepare to be amazed by a container home's expandable walls that multiply the interior space

I've been looking into getting land, putting down a few connected dome homes on it and powering them with solar.

I was about to say the same thing. Try finding a place in Toronto for $600, you can't even rent a bedroom for that.

Actually I'm from Bosnia originally and the rent there is more expensive than $600

Also this is quite funny to me as I live in Toronto now and I *do* pay $611 for a bedroom in an apt Although I share the space with 2 other roommates so there is that...but it is a good way to save money until I can purchase a condo

I'm moving back to NY next year, been looking at the market. I'm probably gonna do high-end Jersey City.

This place has me interested. Converted hospital. Also happens to be the hospital i was born in!

WHoa! Nice one! Man those 2bdrms would be 12k if they were in Manhattan. And trust me, owning a small business with any hint of high risk, and no bank on earth will give you a loan for the 2.5m it takes to buy a condo here. You better come with cash, and who has that liquid.

That's a good deal for the FlatIron. Great neighborhood. Tons of great bars/restaurants. Perfectly located.

I never miss a chance for a tuna salad sandwich at Eisenberg's. One of the last places in town that jerks their sodas the old fashioned way!

high rent is the cancer of modern economy...governments should invest in cheap housing and it would stimulate the economy more than anything else...

You're complaining about paying $600 a month, even in one of the nicer yet still borderline sketchy parts of Chicago, the average rent was $750 a month and there was still a daily shooting and a murder once a month.

If I was younger than I am today, the conversions to Sprinter vans are incredible, and you can change your view on a whim.

Find a used Sprinter van and hack something together.

They had some amazing deals on income property at NPB when I was there
Most were 4 and 6 unit and they were making a fortune doing weekly rentals
And you could buy one south of 1,000,000
One was even in the mid eight hundreds

For what they were getting on weekly rents if you could keep your occupancy rate reasonable EACH ONE unit would service your debt on the whole property

I don't know if it's still like that but wow

If I was younger than I am today, the conversions to Sprinter vans are incredible, and you can change your view on a whim.

Find a used Sprinter van and hack something together.
I know everyone thinks it's stupid to be annoyed by $600/mo
But no one listens

I'm annoyed because I didn't know I would be surrounded by people paying FAR LESS
That is what the fuck I'm annoyed by

1. I don't like being discriminated against
2. I'm surrounded by those people

Anyway
I found out that everyone's rent is the same here
What happened was, apparently, poor people apparently get lower rent NO MATTER WHAT APARTMENT they rent anywhere - it's through some HUD program as far as I understand it

I was going to apply for kicks to see if they'd lower my rent
But fuck it in the ass what's the point of that

Sounds like section 8 or a comparable rent assist program. The tenant pays part of the rent and the government pays the rest
