any motorcycle riders here?

Kern County has serous riding roads. ... much better than LA county + my ins dropped 30%. These days, I'm riding a rocket 3r... wow is all I can say

Trying to get my daughter up here, LA has had a 91% rise in crime, including homicides., while California has a 30-40% rise in crime. My daughter told me a teacher she knows got punched out in a middle school. She is reevaluating her decision to be a teacher... in fact, the crime in the AV is not being reported in the media. Crimes are reported on AV scanner... one night over 250 cars got burglarized about a month ago....a group went from apt complex to apartment complex, not one peep in the press about it....

Biggest problem with Kern County is that 50% of it is the SJV, which is nearly uninhabitable (and definitely not comfortable to ride in) from June to October.

There's a few good riding roads in the other 50% though, what part of the county are you in? I'm in the "uninhabitable" part.

I was just thinking about buying a Harley but wifey is not keen on the idea.

As a teen, I owned a moped and that was a lot of fun.

I used to have a Honda CBR XX 1100. My god I loved that bike.

Not sure what happened. We moved back to California to work for Playboy, and short time later I bought the Mustang Cobra and... Never drove the bike again. I sold it six months later.

Never "drove" it after 6 months? You must have been dedicated to riding

I'm in Kernville. No colder than the AV to be honest. And lots more roads to ride. Looking forward to Sherman Pass when the snow has all melted.

I was taking a ride last year in the crest, at about 5,000 ft a front moved in. I had to ride all the way back to the AV in sleet. The bike was drifting sideways on the roads from wind and ice. I was wearing vans, slacks and a long sleeve shirt. wow, that sucked...

I love that valley on the bodfish-calianete road... about 1/2 way though. love to live there. the only issue with kernville is the F-35's zipping though the valley on occasion....

Ridding is a real treat, I got my daughter a triumph T120. She loves it.....

I recommend this over a Harley for a first time rider.... about 300 lbs lighter and fun as hell to ride, and fast if ya needed it... but the harley costume looks awkward on a T120

it's way different, for sure. Maybe 140 ft lbs of toque on the ground...0-60 is 2.73 on a stock bike… My bike is a touch quicker... it will drag the pegs, but ya gotta really push the bike down into the corner to do that. Funny thing is, the tread wears from the mid to right side...so much toque

I was actually. When I lived in Phoenix I rode it nearly every day. I had the Mustang Mach 1 but the motorcycle was pretty much my primary mode of transportation. I drove it to and from work every day, dozens of trips to Vegas and SoCal... Multiple trips down into Mexico.

Kernville, nice. It's one of the places I'm considering for a retirement location, but Alta Sierra at Greenhorn Summit is what I'm aiming for, I'll learn to deal with the snow.

Once the road opens in the spring you can follow the river north to Quaking Aspen (what's left of it) all the way to Porterville then take the old stagecoach route, aptly named Old Stage Road, back south to Glennville and the 155 east over Greenhorn Summit to Wofford Heights, or short-cut through California Hot Springs via the M50 to Old Stage, a couple of my favorite mountain rides. I usually ride those roads in a hoodie, leather vest and half-gloves so yeah, I get "sucked".

I think I went Sherman Pass when I was a kid on a Honda Trail 90, on our way to a place called Grasshopper Canyon to go fishing on the Little Kern River. I could be wrong about that it was a long time ago and won't ride it today on a belt-drive Harley.

That little valley on the Caliente-Bodfish Road is called the Walker Basin and it gets hot AF in the summer but is beautiful in the spring, the long way around it goes through Cat Canyon and you can see a bobcat if you are lucky. If you like to ride really "basic" trail roads, between Walker Basin and Havilah on the Caliente-Bodfish road there is Breckenridge Rd. over Mt. Breckenridge to Bakersfield, again not recommended for a belt-drive Harley

If you like the desert take 178 east from Lake Isabella over Walker Pass. they used to ship gold over that route during the mining days, go to the gold mining town of Randsburg or what's left of Garlock, go see Burro Schmidt's tunnel.

BTW good burgers at Nelda's in Lake Isabella

I was told the logging road from the logging camps up by Johntonedale ran the Caliente-Bodfish, to the 58, to the 5 down to LA, you ever been on the old grapevine? Imagine pushing a mule team loaded up with logs along 200 miles of those roads.

The main difference between LA county and Kern County seems to be development in the mountains. There are no little town and markets and BBQ joint in the Angles forest, I was blown away when drove up the 155. Houses everywhere, nice houses... no permits are allowed for ANYTHING in LA. LA doesn't really want anyone in the woods....

I have found Sherman pass, I'm waiting for the chill to leave the air, so to speak. Like you, one of my first rides was a Honda 90, I actually started ridding on a Powell minibike. I really disliked the streeglide in the dirt and gravel. The rocket is better but still a bit heavy at almost 700 lbs. I gave my triumph T120 to my daughter, than AWESOME easy to ride bike. Only 525 lbs.

I meet the bike ridding crowd here in Kernville, 10 Harleys and one guy has a rocket, but a GT. I generally ride alone, I ride to air my head out, not go each lunch with a bunch of guys. Too much commotion for me. If nothing else, I'll take a ride around the lake. I love the rocks and trees in this area. I never dreamed I would be moving here. I remember ridding the 178 from Tehachapi to Bakersfield thinking how do I live here lol I tried to live in Bear Valley Sprigs twice... can't get approved by the gatekeepers... and thank God, Kernville is much better...

One thing I noticed is nobody leaves their helmet on the bike when eating or what ever... what gives with that?

Nice Bike

@grapesoda

Sweet ride, I had 3 harley's

Nighthawk
V-rod
Road Glide

I used to race professionally , not for money but a very expensive Hobby...lol

So when I raced at Road America- Elkhart Lake wisconsin

Poconos- upstate NY and many others

The Best ever rides we did were also in upstate New York, when we raced at Watkins Glen in Elmira New York,, many times , you would never imagine your in NYC as we think Ny is just manhattan

But that is absolutely the best riding, wind roads and mountains...A ton of wineries , god made that place a Riders heaven

Fun Fact- Google my cousin, Jeffrey Bleustein, in the 70's , Harley was owned by AMF, the bowling bowl, aluminum boats, etc. AMF / Harley was on the brink of Bankruptcy, If not for my cousin who came in and bought the company, Harley was done

he made it Harley Davidson the company it was, he was a genius, When I raced in Wisconsin, me and the crew and some other racers got a Tour of the Plant

My cousin retired some years back, but he was Harley Davidson

Those were some great rides

Stay safe

Ross

Ross I lived in upstate NY as a kid, Eagle Bay. My ridding has all been Cally and Texas. I sold my last Harley after ridding the rocket. I kept banging the rev limiter on the street glide. Test ride a rocket of you still ride... I plan to ride until the end. Met guys in their 70s still ridding...
