I understand that a great deal of male actors that are trying to make it in TV and Film, will often dress up as a woman, for a comedy role, etc... in order to get some work under their belts and build a resume. Even the late great Robbin Williams (after he became famous) became a women for a film. Tom Hanks in a tv series, and yes, even Tyler Perry has done it....

But.... now that Tyler Perry has established himself as a major actor, director and producer, WHY does he continue with this inane, unfunny, childish female role of Madea ? What is driving him to continue cross dressing? He certainly doesn't need the money nor the padding on his resume, and it couldn't be because his Madea movies are funny (only if you are 12) and don't come close to being classic comedy. His cross dressing, female role playing movies are nothing short of crappy C movie shit that goes straight to video after a horrible run at the box office.

Are black people in praise of his "Madea" work, or are they secretly embarrassed, because when a rare successful black actor / director makes it big, the best he can do is repeatedly dress up as a woman and enjoy it?

So what gives??? Is Tyler Perry the next Bruce Jenner? Is he slowly coming out of the closet and preparing his fans for gender changing surgery? Why does he continue dressing up as a woman??

I just don't get it.

Hiding behind a "gray hair wig" doesn't excuse the fact that he is habitually dressing up as a woman.

Once is marginally funny, 2nd time, not so funny but notable, 3rd time, getting creepy, 4th time... uh... it's time to come out of the closet.... but what about 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9?

OR, could it really be that Perry thinks this character is one of the funniest characters ever created? His films are solid gold and must continue making more sequels? Really??? Have you seen one of these pieces of utter shit films? You can throw a stick and hit a college kid that can make better comedy.

There are 9 of these movies. Yes, 9. Is this really comedic art? Or are we witnessing a sexual psychosis?

$ 404 Million for 8 feature films is a joke. With the average film costing $ 45M to 65M, Plus 10 to 15M for advertising each film, I highly doubt the studios are making any profit at all, unless shipping this crap over seas is turning a small profit.

Beside, the issue here was not "how much money" he is making. The issue is "Why" is he doing this? 9 horrible films while dressing in drag. Can't he come up with anything better? With his resources and connections, surely, there must be some decent scripts out there with original comedy.

How many more fucking Madea movies must he shoot in the face of the public? Do people have to scream out as one to drop this guy a hint?

he is very good at entertaining, however I found the craft in his movie to be substandard. and I have only seen one, and decided not to watch any other TP efforts however I do wish him the best. in all fairness could have been just a one off bad film, who knows. I have very high standards for film making though. 1982-1999 - set lighting 728, director of photography 600-659, 1995 to present photographer, so 34 years on set. changes how you look at productions.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the internets pretty much disrupted their business model. Movies aren't the big game in town any more. The movie industry has to battle with videogames, streaming video channels like Netflix, and online piracy to name a few factors off the top of my head.

Throw into the mix the consolidation of entertainment companies into bigger and fewer mega-corporations, and you have a landscape where companies, who must answer to their investors, try to minimize their risks as much as possible, leading to the deluge of reboots/sequels/re-imaginings that are common to take advantage of brand name/built-in audience.

There are creative movies exploring the Black perspective being made, just not by established Hollywood studios. Take "Moonlight" for example, which is getting excellent reviews:
