911 tapes give chilling glimpse into Scottsdale road-rage spree

Newly released 911 calls illuminate the terror one woman endured last Thursday night as a man in a black sedan stalked her car, slamming into it repeatedly as she tried to flee.

Another woman had already called Scottsdale police to report the man's erratic driving and near head-on collision minutes earlier, telling a dispatcher: "He's going to kill somebody."

"I don't know where I'm at," the second woman screamed as she barreled west on Thomas Road. "A guy's hitting into the back of me, trying to kill me on the road."

By the time the second woman called 911, about 6:30 p.m., the man had been following her for about five minutes, she told the dispatcher. As the woman crossed Scottsdale and Thomas roads, a third call came in.

"I'm going west on Thomas. I'm at Scottsdale Road heading toward 68th Street, and there's a guy in front of me who's swerving around, going all the way into the oncoming traffic," that caller said.

As the third caller detailed how the black sedan had cut in front of drivers, crossing into both lanes, the dispatcher talking to the woman being attacked could be heard in the background.

The dispatcher tried to direct the woman to a Scottsdale police station, informing her that if she crossed the city limit, the call would have to be transferred to another dispatch center. But the woman sped straight toward Phoenix, captive in her own car.

"Can you pull over somewhere, ma'am, that you would be safe, where there's a lot of people?" the dispatcher asked the woman.

"I've tried," she said, frantic. "He sideswiped me."

The woman, who did not give her name to the dispatcher, called The Republic with her story, which was verified by authorities. In an interview, she said she rolled down her windows at stoplights and pleaded with other drivers to help her, but they all rolled their windows up.

The woman eventually turned right on 48th Street, police following close behind. Through sobs, she described the attacker to the dispatcher and quickly hung up.

Her call lasted 8 minutes and 13 seconds, as she and her attacker traveled 3.6 miles. But to the woman, the ordeal felt like an eternity.

After she stopped, the man pulled into a parking lot where he made a U-turn back onto Thomas Road and struck an SUV,

police said. The car then swerved into a police vehicle.

The woman told The Republic she saw the man stumble out of his car and attempt to fight police.

Scottsdale police Sgt. Ben Hoster said officers arrested 25-year-old Jowen Noel Moses and took him to Scottsdale City Jail. He was intoxicated, police said.

Hoster said Moses was taken to a hospital later that evening after attempting to commit suicide in his cell.

He was booked on charges including driving under the influence, hit-and-run, reckless driving and aggravated assault, according to police.
