Searching for Sugar Man

did a search of the title here but couldn't find anything, apologies if this thread is a retread

if you love music and ideas and words and the role each plays in shaping us and the social conditions we're all swimming around in, on each 'side', watch Searching for Sugar Man if you haven't already

read an absolutely glowing review of it years ago that made it seem horribly boring.

the wikipedia and imdb and tomato pages are even worse. manage to omit out everything about the movie that makes it so amazing

on netflix. one of the best things I've seen on there since the cosmos and the (dearly departed) boondocks

Totally agree, this movie moved me to tears the first time I saw it...
A lot of Rodriguez songs are little treasures, most sound like lost classics...

as a music person was hoping you'd see this thread. so fucking cool you got to meet him.

strange people are my favorite. not fitting in is something hard to come to terms with, wherever situated. sure he has his own pains and demons (as we all do) but love the way his daughters describe their childhood despite that. filled with ideas and science and poetry

that and his participation in a revolution, without him even knowing it at the time

music is so powerful. really in awe of people who make it

Yeah, I had never heard of him. We were up visiting for a week or so and one night Terry (our friend) plays some tracks by Rodriguez and then puts the movie on. So we sit and watch the movie. The whole time, my wife and Terry are talking about Rodriguez as if they know him and I'm like wtf? So then Terry tells me that he lives in the house behind them, right across the alley and I'm like nah, can't be.

Anyway, a couple of days later Terry takes me over there and introduces me and we sit and yak for a little bit, not much to say really. He seemed pretty shy for the most part.

Anyway, that is like the most famous person I have actually met. lol.

lol at famous along with you. it so means nothing

when I was in turks spent a weekend with one of my fav artists/poets, super star on american terms with a three letter name. we parred on so many levels and he tried to give me a significant sum of cash at the end, not as some sort of fee but because he could

and failed. wasn't what that was about for me. words and ideas and spending time with a gorgeous man who cared about people and expressed that so powerfully was enough.

people who know and can do music amaze me. y'all bring so much to this world.

quoted company included =)

I recently saw the OASIS documentary "Supersonic". I was always intrigued by how a couple on mancunian chavs (meaning outrageously brutish) could have composed such timeless , beautiful, raw popular music.

Wouldn't mind some epic pussy btw.
