Is In N Out Burger really all that?
I swear... every time I talk to So Cal friends who like In N Out Burgers, it's like talking to cult members. I've had double doubles. I've had eaten their fries-even the extra crispy ones. I still don't get it....
What accounts for the Trekkie-like devotion? I mean, I'm a big fan of Five Guys burgers and Halal Guys (not burgers but you get the point) but I don't wax poetic over it like an Ayn Rand or OSHO devotee

In N Out burger is great but there's always a huge line anytime you want to eat. Their fries, burgers and shakes are awesome. Nowadays A's burgers and Smashburgers are bigger here in SoCal. A's burgers are just as good and give you twice as much meat for the same price, and when you order fries or onion rings you get a huge serving.
In N Out failed in giving too small of portions and huge waiting time for their product, it might be great for the owners ego seeing lines of people all day everyday, but failing to open up enough locations and server customers fresh food quickly is leading them to lose market share to A's Burgers and Smashburger. A's Burgers and SmashBurger serve quick fresh food with huge portions taking In N Out burgers market share here in SoCal. |

they put crack in In N Out Burger burgers.
I don't know how to explain it but it's the first place I eat at after I fly into AZ and the last place I eat before flying out. They don't do 100's of menu items but what they do make tastes good and it tastes that good EVERY TIME no matter which location you go to cause they only use fresh ingredients. I've had 5 guys and it's good but way overpriced.

They are one of the best burgers out there IMHO. It's one of the things i miss about Cali. The fry's are made from Kennebec potatoes that used to be grown exclusively in New England but now mostly in Canada. They give a unique taste to the fry's. I used to buy Kennebec spuds for my restaurants in San Diego when i lived there, you can make amazing Belgium fry's with them.
The good and bad thing about In and Out was the freshly cooked burgers because we are so used to pulling up to a window and having our pre cooked food ready, with In and Out it takes time to prepare it fresh sometimes as much as 15 minutes. |

Five Guys burgers started in 1986, but didn't franchise until 2003. No one heard of them before 2000. In and Out Burger, on the other hand, started in the 1940s. Forty years before Five Guys burgers stared their first restaurant, In & Out became a tradition in California. I didn't understand In & Out either when I first moved out there. Okay, it's a cheese burger. Its slightly better than McDonald's. My wife doesn't remember going to McDonald's as a kid, but she remembers going to In & Out. My step father couldn't name the local McDonald's today right now, but he can tell you the first In & Out burger he ever ate at sixty years ago - it's still there. It's not about a cheeseburger. It's about history. The east coast has it's own thing - White Castle. Oddly enough I've never been to one no less seen one. But all of my family back home talks about it. Then again, I've never seen a Five Guys either.

1.) everything is made to order.
2.) the ingredients come from their own farms 3.) it's half the price of 5 Guys and Shake Shack 4.) best customer service you'll get at a fast food place. they don't fuck up orders. |

Okay, I gotta admit... that made me laugh.
I was under the impression that Steve Jobs could have presented SHIT on a platter in one of those annual Apple product reveals and fanboys (and most of the media) would eat it up.

NO, their food is McDonalds level if you are honest about it.
I have only eaten there 2 times and both times it was no big deal so there never was nor will there ever be a 3rd time. |

For the guys that live in Cali try "The Burger Lounge" very simple short menu all grass feed beef made fresh just for you and the restaurants have some style to them. My friend Dean Loring started them with just one in LaJolla 2007 and now has more than 24 in Cali, Sacramento, Orange County, Las Vegas and more. Worth a try but be prepared for a wait.
