Got solar power installed yesterday
I am getting solar power installed. They showed up yesterday to install the panels and I posted it to Facebook, and a number of people in the industry asked me about it on Facebook. My house is three thousand sq feet and my power bill ranges from $150 to $450 depending on the time of year. The solar panels will cost me $117 a month for twenty years, and that price will never go up. These panels and the system are covered under a full warranty for the twenty years. I'll be saving $2200 a year and my energy costs will never go up. We also sell power back to the power company. The best part is the referrals. They kick back $500 to me any time I recommend someone to them who signs up for solar. So far I've sent two people over to them and already made $1000. It took four people most of the day to install the system. It turns out my house was partially set up for solar when it was designed, including conduits built into the house running from both garages to the attic which saved them a lot of time. They did all of the permits for me, the city is coming over Monday to inspect it, and then we switch over to solar. It was a rather painless process.

As for the solar, congrats Rockhard. Personally I'd rather build my own system so I could play with it,but the deal they give is a pretty damn good one.

 | You don't want permits ?? Then move to Maine, in most towns you only need a plumbing permit, but building, electrical permits, etc are not required. All you would need here is the OK from Central Maine Power who will pay you a fraction of what they charge for a KW for any supply sent back to the grid. |

 | You need a permit to recover (replace) your roof here. If you get enough sun days solar power can make sense solar panels will cost me $117 a month for twenty years --WTF can you write off the interest? What was the interest rate? 2nd mortgage for power? 117*240 28080 Do you have batteries to power the house with an inverter at night -- no sunlight? |

Do you get a tax break for solar? Also how long do the batteries last 8 hrs ,12 hrs? I think you are smart, when we drove to LA from ATL. We drove thru New Mexico and Arizona , its all flat and sunny. I thought to myself this should all be solar.

 | There is a 30% ITC on solar installations .. so some tax advantage Why the Solar Tax Credit Extension is a Big Deal in 2017 | EnergySage but it is 30% of the installation cost * your tax rate -- the rest is out of pocket. |

 | https://www.tesla.com/powerwall Order Summary One 14 kWh Powerwall battery $5,500 Supporting hardware $700 Total estimate $6,200 Requires $500 deposit for each Powerwall The above total does not include taxes or fees. Installation will be scheduled after you place your order. Tesla does not make any profit on installation. It will vary based on your electrical panel and where you would like your Powerwall installed. Typical installation cost ranges from $800 to $2,000 plus tax and permit fees. ==== so another $7K or more? |

Battery is a add on item and most of the companies do not offer them. I have solar city for my solar and it is an option since Solar city is owned by Tesla. So we can buy or lease a battery or batteries that can run the house 100%. I have heard other solar companies are starting to offer Tesla batteries also. The batteries are like $7k so not a cost effective item, more of a convenience. I had a battery on my first house and was nice when the power went out as it would run my basic items like my Refrigerator which was built in and could not be pulled out to plug into a generator.

If you have solar city, you can get the battery way cheaper. They quoted me $5k out the door installed or $40/mth for 10yrs as an addon. I am on the waiting list to get it installed.

 | you are going off the grid completely ? or are you going to use grid power at night ? if not, then you need batteries, inverter and you gotta change batteries every 3-4 years.

 | You normally sell your unused electricity back to the electric company but for way cheaper. I pay .15 per kilowatt that I generate but anything I do not use I only get .02 from electrical company. Since my lease is setup as a pay for what you generate alot of the time I turn off my solar last few days of the mth to off set it. There are normally 4 commmon ways to get solar 1. Pay cash 2. Finance it 3. Lease it - like a car 4. Lease it as a per per use - same as 3 but only pay for what you generate so payment can fluctuate. |

 | We will still use power at night, but our power usage at night is small really. It will most likely be offset by what we sell back to the power company.

 | Do the math. Last July my power bill was $450. This July my power bill will be $117. No matter what I will be saving money every month. My power bill will never go up. Also, for every person I send them who signs up makes me $500. In the past thirty days I've signed up two people, which almost makes me enough money to pay for my power for the entire year. Not getting ass raped at all.

 | And just think..the sun is FREE. The reason that solar energy isn't more widespread is because of this kind of thing. We should all be able to BUY a solar system at a reasonable price, install it on our homes, and never pay a power bill again in our lives. |

 | I'd never lease solar, I've seen too many issues arise when the homeowner goes to sell his home and tries to get the prospective buyer to take over the lease. Often the buyer doesn't like the outdated technology of the solar that's on the house or can get a much better lease currently because costs are now lower than when the panels were originally installed. |

 | Ok so what if in two years solar panels are more efficient and better/cheaper. He's still guaranteed only 117 for twenty years! That is awesome. SO maybe in 3 years it might cost 99 bucks or less a month, sure you can ALWAYS wait for a better deal you'll be waiting forever. Warren Buffet says don't try to time the market on an entry point, it doesn't work. Don't buy a new Samsung S8 because next year samsung will have a better one and this one will be cheap. While you wait 3 years for prices to fall, Rochard just saved however many Thousands of dollars in electric costs while we all continue to pay 400-500 month here in CA. So not only did he save probably 11k (300 more a month he would have paid) in those three years, we put out 15k in buying ours from PGE. That's a net gain of 25k over those three years for him NOT counting referrals. Pretty fucking fantastic, especially where here in the valley it can get to 105 regularly for a few months every day and you're bill can be 600-700 sometimes. |
