US energy secretary Rick Perry discusses manure in fake interview with Russian pranksters

US Energy Secretary Rick Perry optimistically discussed expanding American coal exports to Ukraine and using pig manure as a power source during a lengthy phone call this month with a Russian prankster who Perry thought was Ukraine's prime minister.

Perry actually was talking with comedians known in Russia for targeting celebrities and politicians with audacious stunts, Energy Department spokeswoman Shaylyn Hynes said in a written statement.

During the 22-minute call on July 19, Perry, whose department oversees the US nuclear weapons programme, discussed a range of topics in a business-like tone.

The only topic that would have raised eyebrows was a statement the ?Ukrainian prime minister? made about a new biofuel invented by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the Pravda Report newspaper reported.

Mr Perry said he?d like to get more information about the ?scientific development?, which would involve fuel being made from a mix of home-brewed alcohol and pig manure.

The joke is funny, and Rick Perry is a goof, but getting energy from Pig Manure is a valid idea.

Pig manure has alot of energy and alot of it ends up in rivers and lakes, creating pollution.

Using Pig Manure for energy has all kinds of benefits. It is a great way to treat the waste, and reduces the odor. Plus the farmers now get paid for the energy they create.

Of course its not perfect and there is still more to do to perfect the technology but its a good idea, and Rick Perry, at least in this case, isn't wrong.
