House committee blocks bill to let VA doctors prescribe pot for pain | McClatchy Washington Bureau

Republican lawmakers have blocked a vote on a bill that would have allowed Veterans Affairs doctors to recommend medical marijuana as a pain treatment in states where the drug is legal.

The House Rules Committee stopped a proposed ?Veterans Equal Access? amendment from moving to debate on the House floor by keeping the measure out of the House?s proposed VA funding bill for next year.

The sponsor of the House provision, Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore, said he was ?bitterly disappointed? that his amendment was sidelined.

?This is a subject that has gained a great deal more attention and momentum,? Blumenauer told McClatchy. ?More people recognize that the VA has really failed our veterans when it has come to pain management, opioids and opioid dependency.?

Overdose deaths involving prescription opioids have quadrupled since 1999,1,2 haand so have sales of these prescription drugs.3 From 1999 to 2015, more than 183,000 people have died in the U.S. from overdoses related to prescription opioids

One day when your in pain you might understand. And yeah mild heroin is the alternative already prescribed so for many.. that IS what's next.

When you can't shit for 3 days because your prescribed opioids block you up, or make you feel so sick you throw up trying to eat any food. Then and only then you might realise how wonderful pot can be for some.

All drugs should be legal and the industry taken over by big corporations. Then have a levy applied to sales to cover rehab.

It would stop the huge illegal industry which the world has no answer to a kills 10,000s and makes lives a misery on the supply side.

The VA hospitals should be completely shut down. There is no reason for it here in 2017 with everyone forced to have medical coverage.
