I believe I read once the plot holds up and there are no holes. Can you name one? Would make for an interesting discussion.

a big issue here this time watching was how Biff the rapist got a free pass. Yeah, he turned into a loser, but why on Earth would George allow him around, the guy who tried to rape his wife?

Also, for me as a guitar guy, the guitar Marty plays at the dance hadn't even been invented in 1955.

I know the guitar thing isn't a plot hole per se, but it was distracting for such a crucial scene.

there were some timeline inconsistencies that popped up too, not big ones, hmmm, recalling.........

I think this one is easy to tackle.

Remember in the original 1955/1985 Biff hadn't tried to rape George's wife. They met when George fell out of the tree and that was that.

In the altered 1985, I guess Biff simply turned into a sorry loser (kind of like George had been) and over the years George gave him degrading "pity" jobs like waxing the car, etc because he felt sorry for him.

Do you remember the face of someone you met 30 years ago? I guess the guy kind of reminded him of their son, in a way. Plus it would never cross their mind it was their own son who had traveled back in time LOL.

I agree though the movie isn't nearly as good as we all thought it was when it came out in the 80's.

Don't forget how much in love Lorraine was with Marty, and Marty did the Chuck Berry thing at the dance, and talked George into the big plan to swoop Lorraine off her feet. All pretty memorable.

George McFly already knows this. After Marty's intervention, he became a successful science fiction writer. The book that is published has a picture of a couple, and in between them is a person dressed in what looks like Marty's radiation suit that he is wearing in the beginning of the movie. Marty did bring them together and they name their son after him. George McFly is smart so he probably knows, but Loraine is slower on the up-tick and may not.

I was going to mention this, too, but didn't Marty go by the name of Calvin Klein in 1955?

Because George McFly punched him out. He was a bully in 1955, and was a bully in 1855 too, but after George punched him out he changed and became a weenie. This probably got worse over time because George became successful, and Biff didn't. Near the end of BTTF1 George Yells at Biff to give him "2 coats (of wax on his car) instead of 1", and Biff wusses-out. He's no longer a rapist and an asshole.

I would think there would have been a knowing wink or something exchanged between father and son if so.

There were also weird kind of setups throughout the movie right? Like what was a loaded manure truck doing parked downtown? Just to have Biff run into it it seems..... nitpicky yes, but after all the times of watching this movie, it's fun to reexamine it.

That's right. He's playing a Gibson ES-345 which was invented later. That's less of a plot hole and more of a goof by the movie makers though. Guitar guys noticed this right away. I didn't but a friend of mine who collects guitars saw this too.

that makes sense, the attempted rape never happened to begin with apparently.

the timeline inconsistencies I can't seem to recall weren't anything to do with the time travel, they seemed to get that down well. But some scene setups and transitions had some issues that stuck out a bit for me but they must have been trivial, I can't seem to recall them. Somewhere around the night of the dance, the events didn't seem to fall in line.........Marty running back and forth from in the car with Lorraine to the trunk of the car of the band, and back, and etc. something didn't match up. A couple other times too the timelines seemed overly condensed/ a bit jumpy.

I disagree. The movie is rock-solid and holds up really well, even today. I saw it on the big screen a few years ago too (packed theatre!). It was alot of fun.

No Lorraine just thought his name was Calvin Klein because that was the tag on his underwear.

However, he did go by the name of Clint Eastwood when he traveled back to 1855 of BTTF3. He introduced himself to his grandparents as Clint, and to a few other people during the movie.

PS Clara Clayton, Doc Brown's love interest in BTTF3, should have died and gone off the cliff, which the name "Clayton Ravine" comes from. But since she was saved and the train went off the cliff at the end, the name was changed to Eastwood Ravine

they should have used a 1955 Les Paul gold top, an iconic guitar. The es-345 is not really known, even it's more popular sibling, the es-335 isn't as well known.

True, but maybe the cover of the book was the wink.

True. Doesn't make sense but it's funny.

Yes it still happened.

As soon as Marty goes back in time in BTTF1, we are seeing an alternate time line from that point, on. Biff is still an ass and still tries to rape Loraine.

Biff is still the same Biff as he was in the original time line, but only up until George punches him. After that he becomes a nice Buff.

Could just be editing... it seemed to work for me.

Maybe I guess.... but if you want to be really picky, maybe the Les Paul was too expensive for a guy that plays high-school gymnasiums to afford? Who knows. The movie makers probably just said "Give that man a 50's-era guitar", and no one checked to see the year it was made.

-----------

If you want to see something that's really fucked up, re-watch the scene where Biff is chasing Marty around in his car outside of the malt shop. The car that Biff is driving changes between scenes. It's a terrible continuity error that most people don't notice, but once you see it, you can't unsee it.

I don't know what kind of car this is exactly, but if you watch the headlight area, sometimes the car has just 2 lights in front, and other times it has 4. SLOPPY!

I am a freakin' BTTF Expert I tell ya whut!

I guess the rape scene and the peeping tom thing still strike me as over the top. they didn't need to make George a peeping tom to have Marty get hit by a car and they didn't need to go to such extremes with the rape scene that they had to sort it out in part 2.

oh yeah, the other thing was how did principal Strickland let Marty into school as a student? And after the big Marty & Biff cafeteria fight, principal Strickland gets distracted by a paper airplane and walks away.

True. Then again it was the 80's... that stuff wouldn't fly today in a comedy.
