The "industry" or many players in the industry?

It seems it isn't as fruitful as it was, but many people still do well. No longer is a gallery on a TGP the way to get rich. You need new ideas, new tiny niche sites, and movies that people want but can't find on tubes.

Visit every porn surfer and tube forum. See what's wanted and talked about and why they like certain sites.

Do your homework and see what's needed.

That's advice from someone who put her best skills into a new project. Not much competition and the need is there. It's not adult but the same theory works.

The industry has grown a lot in the last 18 years.

In the beginning things were changing a lot and we were growing together with the industry sharing info publicly with complete strangers and supporting each other.

Then the industry started cannibalizing itself when trusted affiliates turned into tube owners hosting content creators stolen content. Then tubes started stealing content from each other as the number of content creators dwindled.

Now we have a few top dog sites, tubes & cam sites with a lot of specialty niche tubes, sites & cams.

People don't want to share as much nowadays because they have a lot more to lose
