Rebuild a Site from a Dropped Domain with your own Content

I am just finalising a quick deploy script for Wordpress that when run will rebuild pages and posts to match the urls of backlinks that still exist from referring domains.

You can use your own content, but take advantage of deep links, the data I use comes from ahrefs.

Anyone grabbing dropped domains who would be interested in this if I polished it up and put it on Github?

With a probably overly manual process, I've done something like this using way back. Do you find that preserving the deep links is a lot more valuable for SEO than 301?

Yes, I've been testing this for several months with pleasing results.

I think if you have content on the page, rather than a redirect then it's better.

As with anything SEO, who knows how long that benefit will last.

I've tinkered with it before. There is code available on github that will crawl wayback archives and build a semi usable site but it can be hit and miss. I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

Yeah this is the same idea but a bit different, basically you have your own imported content pages, example posts about babe models and this script will map those into into a Wordpress database with URLs matching the backlink target.

Sounds like a much more elegant solution. Looking forward to hear more about it.

I'm going to clean it up, add some docs and I'll put it on GitHub soon.

I'll post in this thread when I finish.

Any luck finding good dropped domains? All the good ones I was looking for (and even paid via a backorder service) where picked up and put up on auction lol

Yes, but I'm not sharing how I get good dropped domains.

There are several sites that you can use, but most of the good ones are taken by people using other methods the moment domains drop (not using a drop catch service).

So are you saying that those people are catching those domains even faster then drop catch services (which I don't think is the case) or they are finding such domains which are out of those services radar (and also regular people don't find them via expireddomains or similar sites)?

I always wondered how they do it.

Anyone can catch a domain quickly, you just have to know how to do it. Domain registrars only have an advantage if they are the registrar of the dropped domain, otherwise if you implement similar methods of automated registration then everyone is on a level playing field.

You need to research dropping domains prior to the drop and implement a way of automatically registering them on drop.

Yes you can register a domain using API at registrars, but I guess that sites like SnapNames, DropCatch etc made the whole catching part to perfection.

That would be nice of you.

I have successfully done this very thing, only on a small scale and manually. Having something to, in the least, get the old slugs would be a bonus.

I've done this a few times on a few dropped domains with Wordpress and a plugin called Redirection. It lists any 404 requests that you receive and allows you to rebuilt the content or do a 301 redirect to new content.

An additional step from what you seem to have in mind so interested in seeing your solution.
