Good TV recommendations?
I am in the market for a new TV and have not bought one in close to 8 years, not sure what the hot things are right now aside from 4k and up. Will be used mainly for video games and streaming movies through Roku.
My 2 primary needs are: 4k 4 HDMI ports I am partial to Samsung. Great picture, though the audio is typically not very good in my experience. A decent sound bar fixes that problem. Sony I do not touch due to a really bad experience I had with their TVs about 10 years ago. I've been looking at this model: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-QN65Q...tronics&sr=1-3

I'm no tv expert. I barely watch tv other than shameless. But the one you posted on Amazon, I'd buy that.

Planning on getting a 4k Roku as well for Netflix and Plex, though now I'm thinking between the new TV and my Xbox, might not need a Roku at all… Will need to look into more.

As for makes I don think you can go far wrong with Samsung or LG. However bear in mind that theres little point in putting much stock into what 'Smart features' your TV has. These can easily stop working when amazon or netflix does some kinda update.
Example being that my 4K TV (Bought new in 2016) spent over 6 months without amazon prime video capabilities and even now, with Netflix, I couldn't even watch 'Bandersnatch' on it... Now I know that, I will put my money into screen size and perhaps a soundbar when I get my next one, and run all my 'apps' off a third party updateable system, like a mac mini or something. |

My current TV does have apps but I think I've only used Hulu once on it, years ago, and it was sluggish as hell. I do really like my current Roku and I used to have a stick, that worked great as well.

We've got a 52" Samsung smartTV in the bedroom with matching 50" soundbar and sub - bought in 2016...runs all the apps just fine. We also beam stuff from our SGS8 sometimes. I don't watch much on it - it's mostly the wife's toy. She has it on constantly and it's been a good set with great sound.

I always used to buy Samsung until i compared the new LG OLED against the Samsung QLED at a local Best Buy and i was blown away by the difference in picture quality The LG has far better blacks than the Samsung so the image looked sharper and brighter.

Not necessary at all. I also thought I need a lot of these, but suddenly there is such a thing as HDMI switch: https://www.google.com/search?q=hdmi+switch
You are welcome ![]()

Provider (Amazon / Netflix / whoever) makes some slight change in the way they deliver their product on a technical basis, as Im sure they do all the time anyway. Now if you are using a browser on a computer to view, its fine. If you are using an app from the app store or google play to watch, well that's fine as well, because if they make a larger change, then the app just updates itself automatically to accomiadate it. But if the app is being provided by your TV (LG in my case) they only way to update the pre loaded apps is to search for any updates from LG. And because Im not using the direct version of the app direct from the provider, but the LG version of the app, from LG, it means that the latest updated apps are not always available. Like in my example about amazon prime situation. Google "amazon prime LG fault' for some historical reference. It basically meant that my once working brand new TV suddenly gave me errors everytime I tried to watch an amazon video, and while it works perfectly ATM, I went for about a 6 to 8 month period where the app no longer worked on my TV and I had to wait for LG to update it ! So while these built in apps are handy, I believe that you are better off just having a separate device for your 'smart features' that you can control and update yourself, without needing to wait for your TV provider to do it for you ![]() |

All i could think was after all this time having that big ass TV you currently have, I don't think i've ever seen you turn it on or ever hear you say you turned it on before.
